My ex-wife was from Green Bay and she explained to me that the Packers are 1) the only team in the NFL that is owned by the fans (shares) and 2) the only team that allows season tickets to be Willed/passed down from generation to generation. That's why it's so hard for someone new to get tickets. It's not capacity since it seats 81,000. It's just that almost no one gives up their existing tickets and pass along to relatives.

Actual resident of Green Bay here (really). Die hard Packer fan. The boys think a new venue is needed. NO WAY. Lambeau Field is far too iconic to ever be abandoned. It will NEVER happen. The Packers have also recently completed the Titletown District just to the west of the stadium that is beginning to rival other stadium districts such as the district around Foxboro.

Green Bay is also kinda small for an NFL city, only about 100k population (~300k in the metro area). It's the smallest NFL city - ever other city has at least 1 million in the metro area.

    • @georgefox6271
      @georgefox6271 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@Hawks it really doesn't matter. The Packers are a Wisconsin team, not Green Bay team. Milwaukee gets two home games to compensate for the team not playing there anymore. Not to mention the fans scattered all over the US. My family in Phoenix are all Packer fans and try to make a game every year. You would not believe the traffic leaving Green Bay after a game. It rivals MUCH larger cities.

Chicago is where QBs go to die. Thanks to Sayers and Payton (running backs) and Butkus and the 85 Bears defense, the biggest names in Chicago football are defensive players and running backs. The fans here like that style of play. At least as long as I've lived here (55 years)

Not having a 4000yd passer is hardly as devastating as they made it sound and their lack of premier passing has largely been by choice over the years. It hasn't prevented them from getting to the playoffs, or even the Super Bowl. The Bears' identity has always proudly been about their defense and running attack. It's no accident the team was home to some of the best running backs and defensive players in league history.

The Green Bay Packers are the only NFL team that isn't owned by a billionaire, instead, the city basically runs it so that may be why this is the case.

Gotta concur there regarding the Bills. Super Bowls 25 and 26 were bad, 27 was so horrible that I missed the sheer joy of the Michael Jackson halftime show, and 28 I was just exhausted. Somehow it's better nowadays being Super Bowl favorites or close to it the past three years and not even making it to the AFC Championship game two of those years, though I'm getting nervous about the window closing... at least I have the perspective of the 17 years without a playoff appearance to put it into perspective. I was barely a teenager the first SB loss.

The coach & several marquee players from the early 90s Buffalo BIlls were in a Snickers commercial at that time.
It opens on a lockerroom with the coach pepping up the team:
Coach- "This year, we're going _all the way!"
    Team- "YEAH!"
C- "This year, we're gonna win it all!"
    T- "YEAH!"
C- "And _no one_ is leaving this lockerroom until we figure out how."
    T- "..."
_the silence holds for a minute, then the voiceover comes on with Snickers' new advertising slogan_
... *Not going anywhere for a while* ? Grab a Snickers.
That was easily the funniest commercial I have ever seen, because it actually starred the coach & players who just couldn't win the Super Bowl!

With the Green Bay Packers, the wait list is only around 50 years if you want tickets to every single home game. If you want to attend 1-2 games a year instead of 8 games, you can easily find tickets for a good portion of the games. I've been to several Packer games, and I'm still approximately 25+ years away from possibly getting season tickets.

For some context, the first year Buffalo went, they almost won. If kicker Scott Norwood makes his last second kick, instead of pushing it wide right, they win. As Sports Illustrated wrote, "If Scott Norwood makes that kick, then this article is about Jim Kelly and glory of the K-Gun Offense. But he didn't and this article is about the Giants and playing smash mouth football."
The losses got progressively worse. It's been damaging.

There is no requirement that visiting NFL teams wear their white jerseys. Before the season starts each club notifies NFL Football Operations of the jersey color they intend to wear (white or the official team color) for each of their home games in the coming season. If a club fails to provide this notification, they will be required to wear white jerseys for all of their home games. It just happens that most clubs prefer to wear their colors at home. Back in their 'Glory Days' the Dallas Cowboys always wore their whites at home, and only rarely were forced to wear their colors on the road. It was really weird to see them in blue jerseys. It seems their coach, Tom Landry, believed that white jerseys made players appear bigger and thus more imposing.

Gale Sayers was a fantastic player back in the late 1960's-early 1970's. The teams he played on weren't anything special, but Sayers was. He blew out a knee while running a sweep against the San Francisco 49er's and being tackled by Kermit Alexander. I wasn't a Bear's fan, but everyone who watched football felt horrible about it. He was a great kick returner as well. For those of us that saw him play he might have been the best running back ever.

@@detourmore470 Yankee stadium was just the stadium though IIRC. With Lambeau there is a ton of space to build outwards, and make new additions. They built a whole district where families/people can spend the whole day doing fun stuff related to the Packers, but not having anything to do with the game itself. The team/city is buying up houses surrounding the stadium so that they can expand in the future. There is a row of houses next to the stadium where they are insured for millions of dollars, and people don't live there year round. They are houses that are used for hosting parties, and that have rare collections of Packers memorabilia.

@@DenariusHaveNarius Fans love the stadium since it's a nostalgia thing for people. They don't have individual seats like some stadiums have, but instead have metal bleachers. The stadium itself is 100x nicer than it used to be. I remember going to Lambeau before the really big renovation they did (back in the mid 90's), and it was probably one of the worst stadiums in the country. Now it's super modern looking outside of the seating area. They have also built a Titletown district with a sledding hill, a brewery/restaurant, a hotel, a giant tailgate zone, a playground for kids, and a full size turf football field where kids can go and play before games. That doesn't even include the restaurant, pro shop, or the Packers Hall of Fame included within the stadium. You can literally spend 2 days at the stadium/Titletown district.
