This has been my dream car for years. I remember being in high school when it came out. I just purchased one a couple months ago and I'm completely satisfied!
Wow bro. This has been my dream car for 20 years. Back then they were $50k. This past winter I bought 2. I love them very much. Just like the first time I saw one.
@@dirkmanning8621just found one and thinking about buying it for my first car. Any tips on the maintenance, and overall if you recommend this car? I found a 2003 model
I owned an '03 M45 from 2005 to 2013. Things I like about the car: V-8 with 340 hp! Sleeper - looks like a nice 4 door sedan Lots of luxury features Good reliability Tires last a long time Great stability and traction A lot of car for the money (I paid $23K for a 28K mile 2 year old car) Things I would change: Seats are not the most confortable Manual shifter is very slow Cracked two exhaust manifold Burned about 1 qt oil every 1k mi. Didn't feel stable over 125 mph - front end gets light I sold mine to a friend for $5K. If it were to the public, I would've got $7.5K or so. Very inexpensive for such a nice car. I still own a BMW 540i sedan (282 hp), which I love, but I don't drive often. The reason is that things break often and are expensive to fix - minimum of $600, but most times in the $1,500 range. And it needs premium gas. I do love the handling and the luxury of the car. It's also very stable and feels sold at the top speed, even though it's only 128 mph (electronically limited), I also hate to admit it, but the reason I bought the M45 is that I did a drag race with the 540i and the M45 walked away from me. I miss the M45.
One cannot say enough of how great of a sleeper car this is & a very original Japanese styled vehicle....the newer M45 and M56 (Nissan Fuga) just don't have the soul of this original M45 (Nissan Gloria)
I had one in Emerald Mist Metallic Green/Wheat interior on a 3 year lease. One of the most unique cars I ever had, and to this day I still regret not buying it out at the end of my lease. It was in mint condition with only around 25k miles at the end, and I literally may have seen 5 of them in my exact color combo during the time I had the car. I still miss it today, and I've have many Infiniti cars/suvs since then but none compare to that M45!
I got my 2003 M45 in 2022. My first fully electronic car and Japanese car. Wasn't sure what I was getting myself into. It was a bit of a basket case but only 73,000 miles on it. I was fortunate to find the Infiniti Manual online and was able to down load it to my computer. I will say that manual is one of the best I have ever seen and I have a cabinet full of them in my shop. Like I said, I had no idea of what I was getting into with this car. I figured there had to be enough Forums I could rely on. I have been working on cars for 35 years. But what blew me away was the computer network was just like a Building Automation Network I had been using from 1994 to 2008. I will admit I do like this car for the same reasons everyone else does. What I don't like is every part seems to cost $350+ when they break. Fast, fun car. Need to put a power steering rack in it and back on the road.
Gentlemen and ladies, the VK45 like the VH45 engines are race engines toned down for street use.....key thing to remember with them is to not hop around in brands of oil.....I found out from the dealer where my 2004 was purchased the oil type (valvoline durablend 5w30) and I've continued with that same brand religiously. ..no oil burn or anything yet and it's just under 90k miles.... Don't use these cars for short hauls again as these motors were designed they had a tendency to create significant amount of carbon and it so use them for higher speeds than the stop and go traffic driving. Gr8 car and especially the mighty VK45 so plz take care of yours if you want them to last....they are the same engine that powers the drift champion here in the US (Nissan Z) and had also powered for years the Japanese Touring car championship ' s GT500 class non turbo GT-R. You have a legendary engine at hand so please embrace and take care of it. This car was all about its engine.....try mating with a manual 5 or 6 speed from a 300 or 350 Z and watch it fly in your M45
i saw one of these at the liquor store the like 3 weeks ago and had no idea what it was and couldnt get it out of my head since, i want this car so bad. Awesometacular video!
I have a 2004 m45 w about 141k miles, it literally does not leak a drop of fluid, and runs like a champ, feels new, shifts hard I plan on keeping it for a long time.
I have one to 176k miles guy sold it to me for $1000.00 and I jumped on it real quick I always wanted one it was clear he didn't know what he had. The rear end quarter panel was in some kind of accident still drivable drove it 2.5 hrs back home like that but $1100.00 and just like that I can't even tell it was in an accident so now I barely drive it cuz either on my motorcycle or my truck or my clk500. But I love that m45 I drive it in manual all the time
Parts are on par with most Maxima parts. I owned a 2003 & sold it when I moved less than 5 mins walk from my office. I am now on market for 2004!!! This is an amazing car, trust me when I say it!!!
Superb video! I owed 2003 Infiniti M45 for over 7 years in Miami - pure pleasure with not even single issue and did trade it with over 60k for 2009 Infiniti M45x luxury - real pleasure and no issues, very happy and still enjoying - can't part with it! Planning to switch to Infiniti M56x in the future. I got 2011 Infiniti G37x luxury for my wife recently - love it! Thanks for video again! Always remember that fabulous car! Japanese are the best! Cheers.
I just picked one of these up the other day. Used, obviously, and it only cost 5 grand. Holy crap, "WHAT A CAR!" It needs some work, but this thing hauls ass! I am very excited to begin working on this car.
Good luck Rich....It certainly the best kept secret in a japanese rear wheel drive sedans here in the US....I have had two and I am down to one right now. Stick to premium gas & if you can find out what oil was used in the motor, just keep using that same type otherwise the engine does burn oil over depending on what all the different types of Oils had been on the VK45 motor in it.....Its a race engine tuned down for street usage....it will go well over 200K miles as my other did but just keep up with the type of oil used initially.... I am using the synthetic blend from Penzoil as it was what was used in the engine since its first oil change by the original owner that got everything done at the local Infiniti dealer here & I saw all records from 0 mileage till 73k miles when I purchased mine 2 years ago now with 83k miles on it.
Also, be easy on the hood as its not sheet metal, plus lube the hinges with some white lithium grease spray as they tend to bend over time & you will see the edge not flushing through with the fender near where hinges are. Also don't slam the trunk as it has a Auto Latch closing so you don't slam the trunk.....Keep the driver's seat a little lifted from the bottom most position to save the hardware from bending as it may bend & break over time due to heavier drivers doing in and out of it. Its a great car with minor things here and there that require a little extra attention like a Jaguar if you have ever owned those before.
From what I have noticed over the last couple of days, the M45 I picked up needs a lot of maintenance work done on it. The person I got it from did not really know how to take care of it and they almost destroyed it. I plan on bringing it back to life and keeping it for a long time. It has every option except for the navigation and the cruise control that monitors the car in front of you... The seats need a complete overhaul, the carpet is dirty, and it needs new paint, but the engine is smooth as glass and I can hardly feel the transmission shift. I have only seen one of these cars on the road in the last 11 years since they came out. I feel lucky to own one.
Very nice car! I recently bought an 03 with 68k, black on black out of California and shipped it to Colorado. No oil burn and repainted about 3-4 years ago and wow what a beauty. The exterior panels are immaculate and so is the inside. I have replaced the rear trunck struts and will be replacing the left exhaust manifold. Seems like those are common repairs.
the only magnum that can beat the m45 is the srt8! I know because Ive got a 06 magnum RT and have been spanked twice by a 03 m45.stock for stock they will run a charger or magnum rt all day!dont get me wrong I love mopar but give the M its dues!
Good things come to those who wait...Wait was over as April 2012, i picked up a lady owned, full serviced/maintained @ local infiniti dealer 2004 M45 (Black on Black) with mileage in the 74K range....It really is a gem & I will be on the lookout for another exact one.
I love this video. I've loved it since the day Infiniti mailed me the DVD. However, it always annoyed the shit out of me how they wanted to portray a street race, yet had the M45 shift at 3,400rpm at 2:18.
might very well be my next car. I want something with luxury and speed , not just speed and random tedious maintanance. Back in 03-04 this car was and still is better than chryslers 300c/ charger rt is now and you will be surprised how cheap they are. Im definitely getting one matter of fact, just hope I can update the gps.
It will be my next M indeed, in due time, and ofcourse a Black on Black....Too bad no more V8 coming of this type of FR sedans coming around anytime soon after the outgoing M56....
I always thought these M45's were nice cars and they remind me of the luxury cars of the 1970s (which I took as a good thing), too bad sales of these cars were not a major success
They didn't sell because the were expensive, looked wonderful and too powerful for the market at that time. It was the most powerful car in that class back then even over BMW M Series. It is not the kinda car you are going to drive without knowing a little something about cars. It has a performance engine. So you gotta know this car is not for an everyday common driver.
What's with the Harley exhaust sound for the Dodge? Stupid video, the M45 only runs 14.8 in the quarter and it's another example of having to buy a luxury car to get a V8. Im glad the Magnum came out a year later to school the M45 and with less of the needless add-ons.
As awesome as the car is, do some googling to see WHY they are so "inexpensive" for a 10 year old Infiniti. In my area (Dallas) '03 M45 cost the same as a '98 Lexus GS400 with nearly twice the miles (and the same muscle). A lot of it has to do with reliability, sadly. Infiniti just isn't up there, at least cost wise. Malfunctioning fuel sender/fuel guage/instrument cluster -- $$$$, burning oil on just about ever 2nd car made (like most VQ and VK motors) in excess of 1 quart per 1000 miles...Malfunctioning cruise control collision detection radar, etc. All neat features but not enough longevity on these. I was pissed when I found these complaints out but not too surprised. I decided at the time, a 1998 245,000mile GS400 was more to what I wanted for the price (proven reliability -- minus a few known fixes). Solid reliability, yes, simpler but not much in the way of things to go wrong. But if I could again, I would definitely look for a well taken care of 2004 M45, as apparently they have less of the electronic issues of the initial 2003 models.
I own the 03 m45 and the fuel guage issue is the only problem i had so far..i drive it like a luxury car is supposed to be driven, only occasionally opening it up on the highway. If u drive it like in this video u probably will see it burning oil. Im at 147k miles and i havent had oil burn issues because i take care of my car. It still turns heads and u dont see one often on the road but when i do i get the head nod from the other owner that shows that pride in knowing this car is still a beast
Quinton Jackson While I agree that hard driving will ruin any car, I don't see how that's an excuse to bleed oil away the way it apparently has been on the VK/VQ engines on and off, to the degree it does. I have not seen similar complaints with many other sports luxury cars....which is what the M45 is. It's not exactly a Buick LeSenior citizen, it's not given 340 hp for snoozing around..to me that's the ultimate waste of a car when it's driven like a grandma van. Of course, I don't mean you should beat the car, but an occasional spirited acceleration once a day should not result in this (which is how I have driven my GS400, and previously my Altima 3.5), and I would expect the car IS designed to handle at least that, without much ho-hum about it. May I ask, what exactly do you remember happening with the fuel gauge issue, and how much did it end up costing? I understand there were a couple causes.
Lol..i just drive it like you describe your driving. I do let it roar when i need to pass on the highway but its a car to be seen in otherwise. As far as the fuel guage i noticed it once i rarely let my gas go lower than a quarter of a tank. I came out in the morning and it said i had a half a tank..when i put gas in it read correctly. If i keep the gas above that level consistently it reads fine. I use strictly synthetic oil and premium gas and the engine runs quiet as a whisper..i just love it
Quinton Jackson Well I suppose if you've got it worked out, you can live with it haha. Enjoy your M45. I'm still holding onto hope that one day (not sure exactly when, or if it'll be too late for it) I'll find a mint M45 that doesn't have too many issues so I can see and enjoy what it's all about!
Just beat one twice 5 min ago. 40-85 he kept up (slowly losing ground) respectably, 85+ I blew him. second race identical. nice car though........ 08' vw GLI APR stage 1.

I have 2 of them. The Y34 03- 04 is the best looking body on a commercial car ever. Not to mention the powerful engine. Nothing like it.

Well I suppose if you've got it worked out, you can live with it haha. Enjoy your M45. I'm still holding onto hope that one day (not sure exactly when, or if it'll be too late for it) I'll find a mint M45 that doesn't have too many issues so I can see and enjoy what it's all about!
Good luck on your search man..i hope you will have a better review lol
This car is truly one of a kind. Everything from Infiniti that followed it is bulbous, fat, and ugly.
@eds13 Nicely pressed!
Just beat one twice 5 min ago. 40-85 he kept up (slowly losing ground) respectably, 85+ I blew him. second race identical. nice car though........
