I kinda liked fie Hard 4, it was the last of an era, where Hollywood producers didn't really knew what computers where and assumed that hackers are wizards. It was charming. Die Hard 5 lacks any such charm.
This movie is like 2013's answer to 2010's The Last Airbender. You know, that godawful movie based on the cartoon? It is similar to that movie in it's own way.

Only the first 2 were based on books, 3 was based on a draft for a Lethal Weapon sequel, and the 4th was based on an article.
The third one is actually one of my favorites. The first one is the best of course.
