WOW.... l'm impressed. That Bull CALMED DOWN IMMEDIATELY....when he heard your voice. That is some kind of TRUST. 🍃🕊 l didnt know you had to trim their hooves.😳
Very nice look at how you tend to the bulls. My father was the herd manager on a hereford farm in Maryland. He had a belly sling inside a stall for doing procedures. I bet he'd have been interested in your setup. My father smoked but even decades ago, he NEVER smoked inside any building and no one else was allowed to either. The designated smoking places were next to the concrete water tanks and there was a dented bucket for butts.
i may be four years late but do you know where the farm was at? i live near a pretty big hereford farm down in here in southern maryland and honestly i’m just curious as to if he either knows them if that’s as the farm he was the herd manager on.
Why don’t they have a set up like hood gp? I thought when he got inside that loader it was gonna be the set up but there’s is diffrent old school I guess lol
Man what a chore that is! Tryin' to get that big fella laid over safely and as calm as you can keep him...that's just a really big job. He didn't thrash around or kick up and ya know he had to be freakin'. Good work!
If you handle him when he's a young, and pick up his feet pretty regularly, like you do when you train a horse, you might not need to go through all of this. My horses will let you touch every inch of their bodies, as will one of my pet pigs. A rescue pet pig of mine, was never handled much and she's a pain to help, like hoof trimming. I discovered that 2 lite wine coolers gets her wasted and I can quickly trim her hooves. I love this big ol' guy, though!
Well, I'm pretty sure he's powerful. And he's magnificent, as well. Seeing this guy in this weird looking contraption tells me that you must have a good idea about what you're talking about! Love your channel!
"Don't get your head taken off." That's something I haven't heard since my childhood on the farm. I sure do miss those days. Hard life but one hell of a good life.
It must be a strange feeling to be a creature that big, probably never been picked up before, and to suddenly be flipped on a table! good to see you guys keeping him comfortable on his hooves, though.
Love these videos. I grew up in the city also and I would have loved to have grown up like this!! Shoot I could live it now!! Hard work and all natural!! Gods country!! On another note about the guy smkoing....so what. His smoke is not hurting a thing. They are Outside. The animal is not breathing a bunch of smoke. No humans are getting second hand smoke. Sometimes people's prejudices....smh.
I was going to report this video, but then I saw they are only trimming the bull's hooves, which is a natural thing to do. My guinea pig looks the same when I trim her claws. She does struggle and tries to break free, but eventually she is okay. It does look cruel when done to a bull, but pet owners do exactly the same thing to guinea pigs and dogs. The other day I saw a blacksmith trimming hooves of a horse. (The horse wasn't tied down, but the activity served the same purpose). I would like an animal expert to reply to this. Is the bull being hurt in the video? Is there another way to do it?
syrop26 With cattle this is the safest way to do it for both animal and handler. Most cattle aren't socialized like horses to stand for up close and personal handling and they don't balance well on three legs. I've seen systems that allow the cow to stand and only raise one foot at a time, but they are supported by two large belly bands so they don't fall.
Gee Whiz !!!! I hope those leather belts don't give. He's a big lad. Ive only ever seen it done when the Bulls/Cows stand (in a Crush) and they raise their feet individually (The Hoof GP) .Do the Bulls ever seem stressed out with this method or quite chilled and happy ? I have seen advertised equipment that use this table system. Some machine. I would love to see a video of the complete trim. ☺☺🌷🌿🌷
On my channel, if you go back in my video list from several years ago there is a video of the trim procedure. Thanks for your enthusiasm in watching my videos. Much appreciated!

Never seen it done this way before. We would never get our bulls on that, it'd be too dangerous. We put our 2,100 pound Holstein bull through a pull behind hoof trimmer shute once and it Damn near tipped it over from thrashing around. Good thing your bulls seem fairly docile.
That big bull seems to be afraid but i think that is normal and there is no other way how to do that. Here in Germany they took a farmer to court because he knocked on the horns of a cow with a wooden stick to calm her down. This didn't hurt, they only hear the knocks in their head and become distracted
the trimming table is safer for the animal and for the handler. We use a rotary tool with high grit sandpaper to grind hooves into proper shape. This is for the animals health and in no way harms them. thanks for watching
@@ChandlerHerefords I agree, these contraptions look scary and cruel, but it is as you say. I give you example, but not from bull/cow. One friend of mine told me that a farrier came to trim hooves of giant draugh horse. Well, it was fine, until the mare lost balance and broke the farrier´s leg on three places and it took a year to recover. There is some sort of incapacitation mechanism for heavy horses, too, but just after I heard this, I see why this is used.
