You could be right with pokies in pubs well NSW anyway. Pubs got pokies in 1997 before that they only had cardies or draw poker machines you know the royal flush etc. This song released in 1997. But don’t hold me to this
Everytime I hear this song, I'm instantly brought back to my childhood. Being born in the 80s, a child in the 90s, and becoming a teenager in the yr 2000, was the best. I would not change one thing. 🙂
I was born in 2002, I wish I was born 10 - 20 years earlier, good drugs and music festivals would've been elite, social media has ruined peoples brains
Im 50 yrs old now but this takes me back to being 24 in a Perth pub watching these guys with my friends. Far out! Time goes fast. If you are young now, please enjoy it. It goes so fast.
For those wondering, yes the lead singer did end up abandoning his terminally annoying "peg on nose" vocal styling, but only by the time of their last hit, and their best in my opinion, "Walls Fall Down".
Pumped the shit out of this the day I left home at 18, back in 2001, had a bag on my back and a one way ticket to Melbourne from Queensland, poor mum was in tears, but i was done with the bullshit, always has a special place with me this song.

I reckon the last scene is in Freo- the shops opposite the side entrance of the old Myer building. Jimm Kidd sports had their store there in the late 80’s.
Bob Evans the singer plays a lot in Perth and OZ as a solo artist. Female bass player is in a band called Axe Girl. Sometimes they get back together for new years eve or special gigs for friends. They are considered aussie grunge legends. That's cool you still remember them.

I remember when this song first aired on Triple M, back in the mid 90s. They had this segment, maybe once a week, where they would give airtime to some unknown local talent. On this occassion they played Jebediah - Leaving Home, I remember clearly the nasally vocals and cheesy lyrics. But the DJs pulled it about halfway through, and basically spent the next 5 minutes mocking and shitting on it, vowing never to play it again. Isnt it ironic that of all the hundreds of unknown shitty bands to feature on that segment, that Jedediah, whose song was brutally cut short and mocked incessantly, is the only one to have experienced commercial success.

Sad ay
pokies have been in pubs since before this song came out...

poker machines used to be in the main bar - along side every table having one or two ashtrays. Many walked before you, child.

As people came in laughing at the way they acted when they were alone
And an argument can start with nothing more than this
To be the light and leave you standing on your own
Oh, am I doing it again
Oh, I'm a loser now and then
Oh, and I smile at everything
Do you like me now
Leaving home, life was never good to me
Leaving home, I smell the morning air
