The way Valkalara was portrayed was actually pretty funny. Mario trounces him/her no problem, and then acts like nothing happened when Peach comes along.
Of course, after all the experience Mario had on this particular journey (given how hard this game is) I'm pretty sure Valkalara was nothing more than a minor inconvenience to him.
