what is it with youtubers with low subscribers putting actual effort into editting while bigger youtubers just pay others. genuine care put into this video, earned a sub :D
Hey, thanks for the kind words. Honestly, I felt this was a quick video to put together. I was beginning to feel unwell, so didn't really put in the time to do what I would usually do, edit wise haha. I understand the "not as much editing" thing, as more "popular" creators are usually releasing videos every day, or every other day, so the editors have strict deadlines. I'm lucky to not be constrained by such deadlines, and can spend more time in the editing stage. Thanks for the sub, appreciate you!
I'm just preparing for my first Vatsim flight and this video popped up on youtube. You did well mate, I felt your nerves when the reality of flying in Vatsim kicked in
right at the beginning? Yep for sure XD The approach wasn't too bad, but the departure was the worst. If you haven't already, best of luck with your first flight on the network!
hey little tip remember that there's another person on the other side who is stressed too as I think back to the first time being an atc and we usually don't look at notes only if we have the time to do so we notice that you're new from how nervous you are or we look at your rank from there it's also noticable, hope this helped a bit
it was comforting to be reminded. Thanks! I know VATSIM is getting along in years, but I forget that new people must join with some sort of regularity. Thanks for the tip!
I don't have a face fit for TV, RADIO on the other hand could be a different story. I've always wanted to do VO/VA things, but getting your foot in the door is more difficult than people realise
@@chillainous holy moly i didn't hear your melodious voice i felt it! through my feet! well done, Im about 5 vatsim flights in, I keep getting my taxis wrong but the controller are always nice..... today I found out you can annotate charts in navigraph so now I will "paint my taxi route" on the ground chart and try and keep the arrow on them.
@@dismaldunc haha it's all good, your controllers sound like lovely people. Yeah, that new-ish annotation feature in Navigraph is so good, very helpful. Goodluck on getting your taxis down!
I too found my first flight very stressful. I was nervous because I did not want to make a mistake, but I guess that comes with the pressure to remain professional and to “know” what you’re doing (how to read charts, hold procedures, basic radio phraseology, etc) before you enter VATSIM. The beauty of it is that you get to enjoy a game AND appreciate the level of professionalism both controllers and other pilots in the VATSIM network display to keep things realistic. Keep at it my dude. I know this video’s a year ago but this is great genuine content that I can relate to. I did my first VATSIM flight last month and I do 2-3 a week so at this point it’s really just muscle memory and deciphering their words through radio. 😅
I also find it very useful to have a paper and pen ready to jot down long instructions from ATC. I have handwritten templates ready to be filled in whenever I schedule a flight.
It was more stressful since I had been watching people like AFP95, Jeff Favignano who usually fly in the US, the phrasing is a bit different, so when I got around to listening to Australia, I freaked out a bit, and all my practice felt like it was for nothing haha. I still get nervous when reading back PDC, as it breaks up the flow of those speech patterns XD As for the notepad, absolutely agree, I have had a notepad since day1, but since then, I've found ways to cut back the note taking, to take them more concisely, and time effective by also making small templates. For sure it's all muscle memory and speech patterns, and I've gotten a lot better these days. I actually just uploaded another video, which serves as a "One Year Later", it's the most recent video on the channel, if you're interested in checking it out.
Nice man, welcome to the Vatsim club! Some tips from someone who also could've used them: On takeoff, pull up to somewhere between 15-20 degrees (flight director should tell you where exactly if it's set up). That'll stop your speed going nuts. Max speed under transition alt is 250knts! Also for the love of god, get your FBW 320 working. I saw you said the aircraft wouldn't load, try removing any a320 related mods like liveries, something will be conflicting. You'll be astounded at how much better it is, and watching you in this thing, you have more than enough knowledge to get going with it. Happy flying cobba
Hey there! Thanks so much, glad to be part of the Vatsim network! Appreciate your advice, and obviously, Im not going to turn it down, as it helps me become a better simpilot. I appreciate every bit of info I can get my hands on. I do keep forgetting about the Auto Brakes, MAX on TO, and Low on Landing, unless it's a decent amount shorter. I've been trying, and was recently told of a fix to try out, so I'll be trying that out at some stage this morning. I'm excited to see if it works. Been literally *dying* to get on to the A32NX. It used to work when I first installed it a year or so ago, so I'm literally praying this fix works out. Cheers mate!
I subbed man great vid. Ive been really getting into aviation lately and wanna try a flight sim at some point. Im amazed at how professional everyone is, the ATC is so good its crazy. You have a voice for YT too man its pleasant to listen to. Keep it up!
I suggest, if you really want to try flight simming, get Microsoft GamePass, it includes MSFS2020 for only 10-15$ a month. Even if you only have it for 1 month, its a great way to dip in to the experience, and decide if you like it or not, from there, purchasing the game, and even looking in to a network such as VATSIM, for a more immersive experience. Thanks so much, I've been told I have a voice for radio, glad to see that people on TH-cam seem to think the same, when they mention it XD Thanks for the sub! ✌
My respect, that you manage to do your first Vatsim flight with that absolutely terrible Asobo A320! I just fly the Fenix 320 and i can highly recommend it!
Thanks! Yeah, a few people have mentioned the FENIX and FBW 320. I have issues loading the FBW A320 for some reason, but I'll be looking in tot he FENIX in a little bit! I dont think the default A320 is "awful", except for the unexpected sidestick drift when I clicked out, but Im sure a 3rd party aircraft would be much better XD
@chillainous are you using the 'ambitious toolbar pushback' addon? I just redownloaded the FBW A32NX and it gave me a warning saying that said add-on causes problems with the FBW. Maybe delete the pushback tool and try again. The FBW is really a lot better than the Asobo A320 and free!
@@windyturtle737 yep, am using the Toolbar Pushback. Haven't really come across any issues yet, and since I fly other planes, I keep it installed. Since this video, had a tip which got the A32NX installed and working. If you want to see me flying it, check out the newest VATSIM video. I still appreciate everyone recommending the A32NX. It's been sold!
As someone who did their first vatsim flight yesterday, watching this brought me back to the errors i have made and how nervous i was that i would make a mistake-
Hey congrats on your first VATSIM flight! Don't worry too much about your mistakes, I promise, it does get easier with time, as long as you are willing to learn. I *personally* can't say the same about the nerves though XD
On you’re departure, don’t immediately try to get up to 250, I used to do it too, you want to try to fly your v2 +10 speed until whatever you’re minimum flap retraction altitude, usually 1000 to 1500 ft
Awesome, cheers for the tip! I usually land a bit softer than that, I'd say that landing was probably 450fpm+, it felt hard. Still, I wasn't sure when to go idle, so it's cool to learn all of that, thanks!
@@chillainous actually its a wrong advice for an airbus. You need to cut the power after the flare is initiated. Iddle before flare can sometimes cause a lack of power for a nice flair. What you can do though is slowly start to raise your nose at 40 or 30 ft, to give you a larger momentum to flare properly at 15 or 10 ft. Try to disconnect autpilot as soon as you can to get a feel of the aircraft. Same for departure, try to handfly a bit, its easy with the flybywire system, there is no trim. Knowing when to flare isnt a precise rule, it depends on many things, the approach, the weather, your weight and so on. The best you can do is really get a feel of the aircraft. Otherwise, congrats on your vatsim baptism. Ive probably more than 2000 hours on it, and its sometimes nervewracking. But as long as you have your charts, its always fine. Never met a mean controller, despite many and many mistakes. Never once. oh, and one last tip, wait to be fully ready for push (just have to release brakes) before calling. Could be really annoying for ATC in busy airports.
@@homasas4837 Everyone has their own ways of doing things, but obviously there is a standardised procedure for landing IRL. Lots of things to try, that I wouldn't have known, if not for people leaving the feedback on this video. I'll also remember to set all the things, lights flaps etc. before taxi from now on. Thanks for the tips!
@@chillainous actually waiting for initating flare before putting iddle is part of the Airbus SOP. Its mandatory. But its often mistaken because the procedure in a 737 is different. And indeed, the speed and the rate you are coming towards the rwy is always different no there is no definite reference. The best advice that often simpilot forgot is LOOK OUTSIDE. And it might help to have a nice default cockpit view and to always reset it before landing, so your visual references are always the same
@@homasas4837 oh for real in the SOP? Well then, definitely seems I'll be taking up your advice and attempting to put it in to practice sooner rather than later. I'll look at setting up some custom camera angles, with a slightly lower view, and one to the right a little more, to see the full FCU, and possibly ECAM as well.
Great vid! I love the amount of effort that you put in and you should be very proud to be at the point that you are! I am hoping to work my way onto the varsim network in a few months but I’m quite basic and need to learn a lot (still do know the phonetic alphabet 😂)! You earned a sub my friend! ❤
Thanks a lot, I really appreciate that! I had been watching VATSIM videos for a while, so I had a very basic understanding of it, but it's really different once you actually get in to it 🤣 Doesn't take long to build your confidence though, especially the clearance side of things.
You got this! It's not too bad once you get started. Nerves and things do definitely happen, but once you realise talking with ATC is all about speech patterns, it's not so bad.
Great video man! I still haven’t even done a approach and landing with Vatsim because I’m so new and worried about screwing it up. 😂 you’ve earned a sub, great job on the ATC! Hope you get to feeling better.
Thanks a lot! Honestly, I was worried about the everything, but since then, asking questions, and learning a bit, I realise it isn't quite so bad as I first thought. I believe you've got this! Make sure you have charts at the ready, and you'll do great!
Just find a place without too much traffic and go for it. It can get scary in busy airports if you don’t know your way around. And if you mess up big time, simply disconnect and reflect over it, it’s a simulation, nobody dies. :)
What works for me is writing down the things I know he is going to say, such as departure frequency, SID and its transition, my expected cruising altitude and any other relevant information that I almost 100% know is not going to get amended. For the squawk code, I just enter it into the squawk box as soon as they say it and refer to that. Makes it almost impossible to mess up the readback.
Absolutely, since this video, I've obviously done a lot more flights on VATSIM and have found ways to structure notes in my notebook to make things easier to read and understand. I *do* need to remember to put the squawk in straight away though, I find myself forgetting to, more often than I would care to admit XD
I know how you feel. This was me a couple of weeks back. Sitting at the gate, too scared to make the call for clearance. So glad I did now, controllers are not big scary monsters out to get you, they want you to succeed too.
Hey man! Great job. I remember my first Vatsim flight on Jan 12th of this year. I now only fly on Vatsim and have so much fun. I remember when I requested my first clearance my controller slipped out of my hand because cause I was sweating so much so pat on the back for putting this on YT. I almost passed out of fear. Also there is a sound edit for the beeps that say " Captain you have an incoming message" its much better then the beeps and its only for direct messages not Unicom ones.
oh my god, that sounds awesome! I'll have to look in to the extra sound modifications. I can assure you, I was pretty much in the same position! I tried to not hold my breath or do weird anxiety-driven things, and try and stick to it. Glad to see so many people are enjoying it too! End of the day, everyone starts somewhere, and I wanted to show people that it's okay to fumble.
Hell yeah! Best place to start is the VATSIM website, free to sign up, lots of great reading material. After that, join your regions VATSIM server. Very friendly/helpful communities. It's great.
That was exactly how I was, and still get occasionally, especially when it's busy. Just take it easy, if you decide to be a part of the VATSIM network. The controllers and staff are there to help you along your journey.
I would recommend searching the current AIP and reading GEN 3.4 5.4 onwards as it describes read back requirements, as some of your radio calls were cluttered and contained unnecessary read backs. For example, once you have established contact with Melbourne Centre, e.g “ML CN Jetstar 768 with you FL310”, you now do not need to preface every transmission with ‘ML CN’, you can simply read back as required, ending your transmissions with ‘Jetstar 768’. Good job overall for your first time, have fun! - Airline Pilot
for sure, will look in to, will give me something to do while I'm still feeling unwell. I'll try to keep all of the info in mind, but I tend to slip up when feeling anxious. So I guess ML CN on first contact, and then without from then on, because they contact me first? I know I have a long way to go, and a lot to learn, but hey, thats part of the fun and the journey :)
Small tip: You don't have to say 'Melbourne Center' every time you transpond a message. It's only advised on initial contact. Might reduce stress for you.
For sure, I got the same advice from a few other people, and I took it in great stride. Check out the new Vatsim video, and check out the progress that has been made in a few weeks :)
you will do great! Everyone starts somewhere, and the community is more than happy to help out, where it can. When you file your flight plan, if using vPilot, there is a REMARKS window, add in there something along the lines of /NEW PILOT or /NEW TO VATSIM. The controllers can read that, and accomodate. If you want any additional help, to some extent, there should be a link to discord, with many knowledgeable VATSIM pilots, and even ATC, who are willing to help out too!
I feel you, my nerves, after doing my test, were running high, and even considered stopping at that point. It's decent fun though! Glad you enjoyed the video ✌
This was a very good video. I rly want to start with Vatsim but im just so anxoius about how to start, talk to the ATC and possibly make mistakes, so this is a vid i’ll surely watch later multiple times!
Thanks so much! While I *did* cut out a lot of deadspace between communications, I decided to not cut out a lot of the mistakes, talking with ATC. It's not only a "time capsule" style video for myself, something I can reference back to later and have a laugh; it's also to show everyone else that it's okay to make mistakes, and that ATC aren't too upset if you DO make mistakes. We all start somewhere, and I'm sure that when you do start, you will destroy it, in the best way. Good luck with your journey as well!
Yeah same i have now flown 3 flights in vatsim and they are so nerve wracking and i feel like my heart is gonna pump out of my chest. But it will get easier, for example today i made a few quite big mistakes but the controller didn't care and just mentioned them and advised what to do next time.
This is a very good video bro! Fully subscribed and joined the Discord now lol, quick pointers: Idk if you have a notepad or something in-front of you but for my first flight I definitely needed it to remember all that info ATC gives you. Keep calm 😌 honestly. No stress Controllers are always so lovely and are so understanding, as you’ve probably already experienced. Also; Turn the seatbelt signs on because I imagine that landing caught everyone off guard 😉🫡🫡🫡👨✈️ Again, really impressive first flight and I can’t wait to see where this channel goes next!
Cheers! Yeah, it's been a while since I posted this video now, and still getting eyes on it, with feedback and things, it's crazy! Have had a notepad with me since day1, and have learned how to make my notes more concise with time Controllers are awesome. Some are kind of tight, but most are pretty chill. I keep forgetting to turn off seatbelt signs these days, so instead of not being prepared for landing, they now cannot use the bathroom while in cruise XD Thanks though, I appreciate all the pointers! One day, it'll all be second nature, and things will operate on a more "normal" level lol.
I would love to! However, whenever I try to load it up, it never renders in. One night recently, I loaded the sim, with the A32NX, went to grab dinner, sat back down, and it STILL wasn't rendered. I don't know what the deal is, but I haven't found a solution yet. Still lookin' though.
it's a great way to learn. I swear I spent 10hrs+ as observer, listening to traffic before I started speaking to anyone else XD Take it at your own pace, and if needed, write out little scripts to communicate with the ATC. A lot of them are friendly, and willing to help out. When filing your flightplan, add: /new vatsim pilot . That will give them an indication you are new, and may need a little guiding. Best of luck out there!
@@anonimowy5231 hey, we all start somewhere. If you need to, pre-write any infomation you can get from your v/xpilot client, and even tiny scripts. They help a lot in the early days. Best of luck out there!
@@chillainous its better now, i have atis info, bought navigraph and watched couple tutorials. Still little stressed but just a little. Now i know a bit what i have to do and what expect from the atc. Also i am choosing airports with not many people to not make problems for the atc.
How did you learn all that info, I understand how to fly the plane, but I don’t understand what SID is or how to taxi with letters, or what all the code names are for flight plans. Is there somewhere where you can learn all this info? Anyway, great video
You're already most of the way there then! SIDs (Standard Instrument Departures) and STARs (Standard Arrival Routes) are pre-outlined guides, how to depart, or arrive at an airfield. If you're playing MSFS, and you select an IFR flight (example YSSY-YPAD), you may notice there are 2 menus on each side, a starting point and a Departures Menu. These are the SID/STAR routes, that a lot of pilots use. I've directed a few people to www.crc.id.au/xplane/charts/DAPS-2023-JUN-15/ , to look at some charts. Find an airfield (I suggested Adelaide (YPAD)), park your plane at a bay, get out the drone camera, fly around, and identify each of the runways, from a top down, this helps you visualise. As for SID and STAR help, I found a tonne of help from watching others talk about them. As for all the code names for flight plans, Simbrief can help with things like that. Thanks for letting me waffle on for a moment there. Being new to VATSIM and even within my first few weeks as a SID/STAR reader, I want everyone else to be able to enjoy following these procedures. It feels crazy good when you know you can follow them. If you want more help, I have a discord, linked in the description of this video, feel free to join and ask more questions :)
How did you get the marshaller at your gate? I did my first flight but on approach, my auto pilot decided to do some weird stuff, and then my game froze for like 10 seconds, when it unfroze, my plane nose dived while on autopilot, it's happened 3 times in the flight prior on descent but I managed to recover, but I didn't expect it to go that bad to where i literally crashed. I got so annoyed, I disconnected. It's so nerve wrecking, I get overwhelmed with info, I fumble my callsign sometimes due to how nervous i am, at one point I even forgot to descent, I was 10,000 ft too high, and I had to be vectored in instead of the STAR i was cleared for. I wasn't familiar with the A320, and I was also in VC with a frieend who was flying with me too, but I think It was distracting due to him talking and I not able to grasp what ATC may say. So i may try again tomorrow with 737-800 as I'm more familiar with it now, and watching your video made me realize to just be calm and ask if I need further slower assistance. I tend to hear everything they say then once it's time for readback, I forget every single thing, even the most basic instruction. So it'd definitely take quite some time. Learning experience I guess, most of it from pilot error haha.
Heya! Im unsure about the marshaller, I don't run any addons except the Pushback/Aircraft. I have similar issues when coming on to approaches, a lot of the time, it's to do with the optional photogrammetry etc. and buildings loading in at the airfield. Interesting that it's going crazy with the AP. I understand the information feels like a barrage at times. I got a brand new notepad for taking notes, and even sat at busy-ish airfields in a C152 listening to the radio, attempting to follow along. Good to hear your ATC was accommodating, and helped you down to the ground. For sure, I recommend flying in aircraft you're familiar with, in case you need to make any adjustments, or even fly without really thinking too much about it. If you think you need a little extra assistance, in your remarks when filing a flight plan through vPilot (unsure about any other programs), you can add a /NEW PILOT to the end, to warn them you are a new pilot. If things aren't too busy, and you need clarification, don't be afraid to ask questions. It might seem annoying, but it shows you are willing to learn. Overall, take your time, don't stress too much, and you'll be great before you know it. Grab a pen and paper, and write down notes if you have to, even small scripts. It helped me out a bunch, and while it may not work for you, it won't hurt to try. Best of luck on your flights out there
Nervous is normal, I'm sure you've got this! if you need to, write down a couple of things you want to say before starting, try getting in to that flow state, and you'll do great. 👍
Quite a few people recommending the A32NX today. Unfortunately, I have some issues loading it, it never properly loads in at the airfield, doesn't matter which. Hoping I don't have to reinstall the game, but if thats what it comes to, I guess it is what it is.
Was also going to say this. This default plane is garbage. Also outdated airac. Get the flybywire installer and upgrade that thing. No more user waypoint bs!
@@bwlucas I'm already on it, went to record a video in the A32NX, but had some glaringly bad audio issues. Already given it a few flights, and love it. Expect to see it real soon!
For sure! I got a new notepad, specifically for writing down any info I need to. I'm itching to get back on to Vatsim, but I don't have too much of a voice at the moment haha
Cheers mate! I recently, after a short hiatus, did an impromptu flight on VATSIM, and felt those same nerves all over again haha. One day we'll get over it, hopefully 😂
hey I know this video is from a while ago but I was wondering what I do if I get handed to unicom mid flight and how to know when and where to call atc?
Heya! If you get handed off to Unicom (122.8), you just need to let people know your actions. So lets say you're doing a flight, Adelaide to Sydney, and you're @ FL370. You would let Unicom know you are Beginning your descent and your arrival fix (example RIVET3). Sydney Traffic, CALLISGN Descending FL370 for the RIVET3 arrival, Sydney. By the time you reach RIVET, if Sydney Approach is online, they will send you a "Contact Me" to your pilot client. If not, call out on Unicom that you are arriving RIVET3, your arrival runway, and a rough time you expect to land at the field. Announce when you are on your final for the runway, and once vacated runway, a final call how you plan to taxi to the gate. Of course, that COULD be paired with tools like VatSpy or Vatprism, so you know if you have to make those calls or not hahaha.
nice, although I did notice you didnt go from the jetstar gates, ( the ones right down the bottom near the cargo gates.) If you did it would be much more realistic, apart from that, good flight.
Yeah, I wanted something that was going to be an easy taxi, although, that being said, if I took of from JST gates, I may have only had to hear 1-2 taxiways instead of the the three. Honestly never thought about taking off from their gates, I'll have to look in to where to depart from in the future. Cheers for the tip!
Wow! Sorry I'm late! Just found your channel for the first time today in my recommendations. I too have flown on Vatsim and its quite fun! I noticed you were a small channel and you have a great quality video right here so You've got my sub 😊 I hope to see your channel grow and I will be watching your videos as much i can! You may not see this comment as im late but I hope you come across it at some point, Cheers :)
No need to apologise mate, welcome! Yep, still see comments attached to this video all the time, and still replying to everyone XD I appreciate the well wishes, I hope it grows too, but right now, not too focused on that, more focused on releasing these videos for whoever to watch, while documenting my progress as well 👍
VATSIM is a completely optional addon to Microsoft Flight Sim, Xplane and Prepar3d. Honestly, you can get an idea of some of the lingo by playing with the AI ATC enabled in MSFS, but there's obviously a little nuance to it as well. There's no training perse, but there's lots of great online content, either directly addressing the "How To" side of things, or there's content from creators much better than myself. I personally recommend people such as Jeff Favignano and AirForceProud95. If you take notes, and try to predict THEIR responses to ATC, you find yourself learning by example. When you also sign up to VATSIM, you have to take a small exam, in it, is some basic "how to talk to ATC" information. That being said, nothing is more invaluable than asking questions. Asking questions might feel annoying, but it shows others you are willing to learn, and better yourself in the virtual space. You can also "observe" the ATC and live pilots once you are signed up, by sitting in a plane, engine running, tuning ATC frequencies where they are manned. Let me know if you need anything else clarifying, or have more questions yourself, I'll answer as many as I can, and if not, find someone who can help answer them 👍
I believe you can do it! I aced the test first time. 10-15mins of reading, and completed the exam in a couple of minutes afterwards. Be sure to watch people who actually know what they're doing (my favourites are Jeff Favignano, Airforceproud95 and Flightdeck2Sim), try and follow along with their ATC and I'm sure you will nail everything too! As for Yoke/Throttle.. yeah.. I'm currently using an XBOX controller, Stream Deck and a little limited input from my keyboard. I want to move in to the realm of peripherals, but life is life, and have other things needing to be paid for, before I can think of those sorts of things.
@@chillainous if at some point in time you're interested in buying a yoke and throttle, and you live in melbourne i recommend you get the scorptec honeycomb flight controls yoke & switch panel & bravo throttle bundle :) although its kinda expensive
@@declan2727 Yeah, I've had my eyes on the Alpha at the least, for the last few years. I'd love to get that as a yoke, or even something like a x56 as a stepping stone. I don't live in Melbourne, Im pretty far away from any major metropolitan area, but delivery exists XD
Dont stress too much about it, take your time, if you need more time, the ATC will generally allow that time. Best to create a small script to follow, and things should go smoothly!
Because at the time, I couldn't get the A32NX to work. Thats also like saying the 152 is horrible for VATSIM. I'm not in the business for deciding what is good/bad for VATSIM. It got me in, trying it, and enjoying it. I feel that's the main take away here.
yeah, at this time, I had issues using the A32NX, it would not render in the game world, leaving me floating and unable to load on to the airfield properly. Since then, I've been using it. If you check out any of the other videos, you'll see me using it
Welcome to Vatsim mate. When you get familiar with IFR and talking to ATC I suggest flying VFR it's very fun. And then I recommend you start ATC training its very fun.😊 but as your first flight its good, i remember my first flight ATC asked me to squawk mode C and I didn't, and after he asked me lik 5 time I just logged off😂😂
Hell yeah, I notice my regional VATSIM community hosts some VFR events occasionally, perhaps I'll jump in one day! I don't know if I will ever get in to ATC, due to the anxiousness talking with people, but my brother has seen a few times I've hung out at airfields, and showed a little interest. Perhaps I can convince him hahaha. Thanks so much, glad to see you thought the flight was decent. Hahah oh noo! yeah, Im glad I looked at some videos on TH-cam prior to even applying for Vatsim, and learned what ModeC was, early on 😂
ATC: You seem to be tracking away from health. You: Yeah there was something wrong with the immune system and was some infection error. Starting to track back towards health Feel better soon :) OHHHH another one! ATC: You seem to be tracking away from the airport. You: Yeah I didn't really notice, thanks for pointing that out. i just wanted to get a close up of 420 and throw plans into jeopardy. I'm a boss like that. ATC: alllllriiighhhhttttyyy then \*ban hammer\*
for my charts, I use chartfox, as an alternative to Navigraph. They require a vatsim membership to use as far as I know. However, if you don't mind manually searching for charts, they're pretty great
That's good to know, but I think I might pay for Navigraph anyhoo for the up-to-date AIRAC cycle with the charts as a bonus. Good flight too btw@@chillainous

Very nice video, don’t get too caught up in legislation and what ICAO phraseology you need exactly. Listen to live ATC while watching air traffic movement and have fun, everything will start coming naturally very quickly if you just keep flying. Also try not to think of ATC as someone who is “bossing” you, they’re there to help, flying is the priority you can always ask them to standby if you’re overwhelmed. Keep it up! 💪
Yeah, I sat at Chicago Midway for a few hours one day, listening to the airtraffic there, trying to take note of what was being said, and quietly reading back to myself, as practice, before flying my first flight. I know we're all trying to work together in the skies, at the same time, I don't want to break their experience too much either. Obviously, it all comes with time, and there's still a lot of things to learn, all of which I am excited to do. Perhaps one day I'll enter a 'flow state' the same way others do XD Thanks!
Actually had to dig around to find this haha. Visit vatsim.net - Click myVATSIM up at the top - login On the left bar, right at the bottom, there is an "Education Hub". All reading material and exams sit in that area there. Thats where I found my results, and pretty sure that's where I found the initial exam. Hope that helps!
Fuck, wish I had the balls, maybe some day. I did notice your lights... The wing lights shouldn't be on, they're just there to inspect the wings for icing. As for the turn off lights, at night you can maybe turn them on, certainly when you're going on a runway, but normally they're just there to help you see turns, so they should be off cause they're very bright.
Heya! Yeah, I've already been suggested the FBW A32NX. Unfortunately, when I load it, it never renders in game for some strange reason. I'm looking at some fixes, but so far, none have worked. I *hope* I don't have to reinstall the game to get it to work.
They are people who dedicate a bit of their time to playing the ATC. I also know a lot of them fly planes on the VATSIM network, as others do the controlling. Most of the controllers I've spoken to enjoy it, for the most part.
Hi! You're watching this video, thanks to a possible recommendation by TH-cam, based on your previous viewership on the platform. In all seriousness though, this is my first time on the VATSIM (Virtual Air Traffic Simulation) Network, which has given flight simulation enjoyers a slightly more realistic experience through the sim, than the standard AI radio controllers in the game. 😁
@@hephep22314 for sure, I want to, a few people have also mentioned it. When I load the FBW A32NX, I have an issue where the plane doesn't load. The surroundings do, but the aircraft does not. I'll look in to the Fenix as well, thanks!
@@chillainousFenix is probably the most advanced you’d get. I’d recommend trying out the fbw 320n first before buying the Fenix so you can familiarise yourself with aircraft system
yeah i was gonna say the same, i dont reccomend flying the default a320 especially in vatsim, where if they ask u to hold at a waypoint u prob cant even do it, and i personally think its not even fun to fly with those microwave engines. the fenix is around 50 dollars but every cent is well spent
First flight is always nerve racking but after a few flights you start to get more confident and really feel more comfortable.
Absolutely, after a few weeks of flying on VATSIM, I already feel much more comfortable talking to ATC, and the nerves are starting to shake off :)
what is it with youtubers with low subscribers putting actual effort into editting while bigger youtubers just pay others. genuine care put into this video, earned a sub :D
Popularity is often, wrongly, conflated with quality
Hey, thanks for the kind words. Honestly, I felt this was a quick video to put together. I was beginning to feel unwell, so didn't really put in the time to do what I would usually do, edit wise haha.
I understand the "not as much editing" thing, as more "popular" creators are usually releasing videos every day, or every other day, so the editors have strict deadlines. I'm lucky to not be constrained by such deadlines, and can spend more time in the editing stage.
Thanks for the sub, appreciate you!

@@chillainousfly to Africa Zambia
Not sure if you noticed captain but the seat belts signs and no smoking signs were off. It looked like we had Snoop Dogg up there. LMAO
Am I the only one that thinks this guy needs to get his voice into TV? I can imagine a new Aussie Jojo character purring the "Ara Ara" into new life.
I don't have a face fit for TV, RADIO on the other hand could be a different story. I've always wanted to do VO/VA things, but getting your foot in the door is more difficult than people realise
@@chillainous Gotta try multiple times to get that foot wedged in tight.
I still get nervous when reading back PDC, as it breaks up the flow of those speech patterns XD
As for the notepad, absolutely agree, I have had a notepad since day1, but since then, I've found ways to cut back the note taking, to take them more concisely, and time effective by also making small templates.
For sure it's all muscle memory and speech patterns, and I've gotten a lot better these days. I actually just uploaded another video, which serves as a "One Year Later", it's the most recent video on the channel, if you're interested in checking it out.
Nice man, welcome to the Vatsim club!
Some tips from someone who also could've used them:
On takeoff, pull up to somewhere between 15-20 degrees (flight director should tell you where exactly if it's set up).
Oh and when you land, set the auto brakes! Low will do for most airports you're flying to in aussie, medium if you can feel a floater coming on ;)
2:27 - I just had my 53rd flight on VATSIM and I still feel this way, esp when having to read back PDC's lol. Nice work.
Nice to know I'm not the only one haha! I still get nervous reading back PDCs, it breaks the whole readback flow thats been practiced over and over.
@@chillainoussafe travels have a good flight
I love your video, this is where I am at now learning all the ropes and watching your video has given me hope..
Well done! I know its terrifying 😂 great video, fun to watch.
Thanks! It's obviously been a while since these flights took place now haha
hahaha that sigh at 10:00 really had me laughing, i felt it so bad. also a new VATSIM pilot :D
hahaha, yeah, it was a lot of information to take in as my first landing, and I wasn't great at taking notes 🤣
Better than me on my first vatsim flight lol. Also just a tip for landing, idle thrust at 30 ft and flare at the same time.
Dude great job. I'm new too can't wait to get better before joining the vatsim
This is great, did my first vatsim flight today, terrifying but made it through
Super proud you made those first steps, I promise it only gets easier from here. Welcome to the VATSIM Network! ✈
I know how you feel. This was me a couple of weeks back. Sitting at the gate, too scared to make the call for clearance. So glad I did now, controllers are not big scary monsters out to get you, they want you to succeed too.
100% they want everyone to enjoy an experience, and are there to facilitate it. I've met some great controllers here in Aus, all so friendly!
Hey man!

My sight went into tunnel vision mode, palm sweating and all...while watching this video. Im not ready for Vatsim.
That was exactly how I was, and still get occasionally, especially when it's busy. Just take it easy, if you decide to be a part of the VATSIM network. The controllers and staff are there to help you along your journey.
you did really good for your first flight!
Yo thanks! It's been great to see so many people giving feedback on this flight 👍
@@chillainous I remember when I first tried vatsim I could barely copy down my clearance. Bless those very patient controllers 🤣
Great video, I'll be subscribing now can't wait to see more content and finally we have a vatsim pilot in Australia.
Thanks so much for the sub! Glad to be part of the VATPAC crew!
Braver than me, I’ve had vatsim for a few months and I’m terrified to open it and try lol good job
By the way, how to you add a note to tell them you are new?
you will do great!
Safe travels where you flying from and going to
Lol im too scared to do Vatsim lmao, good video tho, loved it!
I feel you, my nerves, after doing my test, were running high, and even considered stopping at that point. It's decent fun though! Glad you enjoyed the video ✌

Thanks so much, I watched a LOT of vatsim videos leading up to applying, but nothing can truly get you prepared haha.

Have had a notepad with me since day1, and have learned how to make my notes more concise with time
Controllers are awesome. Some are kind of tight, but most are pretty chill.
I keep forgetting to turn off seatbelt signs these days, so instead of not being prepared for landing, they now cannot use the bathroom while in cruise XD
Thanks though, I appreciate all the pointers!

Still lookin' though.

i’m still on that nervous to talk stage. I’ve only sat and listened to other people on vatsim 😭
it's a great way to learn.

@@chillainous thanks a lot, this makes more sense now
i actually really enjoyed watching this well done mate more please 👍👍
Thanks a lot mate! There's more being edited right at this moment, and there's a second VATSIM Shared Cockpit video up right now 👍
How did you get the marshaller at your gate?
Best of luck on your flights out there
I'm going to do my first Vatsim flight soon. I'm in a group with a couple of ATC controllers. I know I will be nervous just like you. 😆
Nervous is normal, I'm sure you've got this! if you need to, write down a couple of things you want to say before starting, try getting in to that flow state, and you'll do great. 👍
hey great video! you might want to consider using the A32NX mod as it provides a much more realistic simulation of the A320 NEO in MSFS
@@chillainous You also inspired me to finally buck up and try my first vatsim flight. Nerves were on high alert!
Thats awesome@@bwlucas! Hope it all goes/went well for you!
Hey man! Great job! Took me around 3-4 flights or more to get comfy with atc! ALWAYS HAVE THAT PEN AND PAPER! lol
For sure! I got a new notepad, specifically for writing down any info I need to. I'm itching to get back on to Vatsim, but I don't have too much of a voice at the moment haha
Huge congrats on that bro, I still get nervous when I speak
Cheers mate! I recently, after a short hiatus, did an impromptu flight on VATSIM, and felt those same nerves all over again haha. One day we'll get over it, hopefully 😂
@@chillainous Hopefully aha
hey I know this video is from a while ago but I was wondering what I do if I get handed to unicom mid flight and how to know when and where to call atc?
Today i'm doing my first flight on vatsim on a 737, i hope it will go well
How did your flight go? Hopefully all things went smoothly!
@@chillainous Ofc they did, i did no mistakes, i'm flying now everytime on vatsim
@@altez_121 Hell yeah, great job, and welcome to VATSIM!
@@chillainous Thanks man!
nice, although I did notice you didnt go from the jetstar gates, ( the ones right down the bottom near the cargo gates.) If you did it would be much more realistic, apart from that, good flight.
@@chillainous they fly from the farthest south pier you can possibly fly from
10/10 on tht landing, BUT WHERE WeRe you when i was tryna look for motivation to start on vatsim
Thanks! I was just watching VATSIM videos when a lot of people started their own journey, trying to get over my anxiety 😅
Yep, still see comments attached to this video all the time, and still replying to everyone XD I appreciate the well wishes, I hope it grows too, but right now, not too focused on that, more focused on releasing these videos for whoever to watch, while documenting my progress as well 👍
just a tip, when taking off you should have the plane at a 10-15 pitch :)
Cheers, I'll keep it in mind as I take off next time!
@@chillainous Yeah, since your pitch was a bit low, your speed caught up too quick.
im ur 100th sub lol
Yoooooooooooooo!! Thanks so much!
If i buy this game, how do i learn all of the stuff like what to say and shit, is there like a training or something that i need to go through?
Let me know if you need anything else clarifying, or have more questions yourself, I'll answer as many as I can, and if not, find someone who can help answer them 👍
thanks bro cleared everything up for me, might get the game soon!@@chillainous
Safe travels
hey man, love the vid. Love how we r all on the same page. 😂
Yo thanks so much! Yep, we all start somewhere, and that's what is awesome about this whole thing
Nice job man. Still working my way into VAT Sim, never been so nervous for a video game 😂. You did great. What yoke and throttle are you using?
I don't live in Melbourne, Im pretty far away from any major metropolitan area, but delivery exists XD
im scared to talk rn for clearance, i think im gonna fuck up the repeat 😶
Dont stress too much about it, take your time, if you need more time, the ATC will generally allow that time. Best to create a small script to follow, and things should go smoothly!
Why the 320 Neo?? For vatsim it’s horrible
Because at the time, I couldn't get the A32NX to work. Thats also like saying the 152 is horrible for VATSIM. I'm not in the business for deciding what is good/bad for VATSIM. It got me in, trying it, and enjoying it. I feel that's the main take away here.
Also try the FBW A23NX for a good free plane to fly
yeah, at this time, I had issues using the A32NX, it would not render in the game world, leaving me floating and unable to load on to the airfield properly.
Hahah oh noo! yeah, Im glad I looked at some videos on TH-cam prior to even applying for Vatsim, and learned what ModeC was, early on 😂
Keep it up!
Thanks for checkin' it out, I will keep it up, for sure!
ATC: You seem to be tracking away from health.
You: Yeah there was something wrong with the immune system and was some infection error. Starting to track back towards health
Feel better soon :)
OHHHH another one!
I wanted to be a gentleman at first, leaving the runway open for JST420, but then became greedy and went for it anyway. XD
What do you use for charts?
for my charts, I use chartfox, as an alternative to Navigraph.
Heya man, let me know if you want any tips or service let me know as I am a tower and bellow controlling in Aus
that would be slick! I may take you up on that offer at some stage, which airport do you usually service?
@@chillainous usually I end up servicing yssy sydney, how ever in an ideal world Id like to be getting ypph staffed up more often. just need to get more traffic over that way. if you like id be happy to give you my discord? as I don't check my YT often enough.
@@verbjimtim6869 sure, I have a discord server as well, if you would like, it's linked in the video description, easy enough to get a hold of me that way too 👍
@@chillainous legendary, feel free to ping me when ever :)
Very nice video, don’t get too caught up in legislation and what ICAO phraseology you need exactly. Listen to live ATC while watching air traffic movement and have fun, everything will start coming naturally very quickly if you just keep flying. Also try not to think of ATC as someone who is “bossing” you, they’re there to help, flying is the priority you can always ask them
to standby if you’re overwhelmed. Keep it up!
Yo How do you start the test when you made a vatsim acc😅
Actually had to dig around to find this haha.
Visit vatsim.net - Click myVATSIM up at the top - login
On the left bar, right at the bottom, there is an "Education Hub".
Hey pal i suggest you get a addon called thr flybywire a320 its so much better then the default
Heya! Yeah, I've already been suggested the FBW A32NX. Unfortunately, when I load it, it never renders in game for some strange reason. I'm looking at some fixes, but so far, none have worked. I *hope* I don't have to reinstall the game to get it to work.
I'm going to start posting msfs videos, I've already posted 1
good luck with it all!
Who are these poor people playing ATC while we get to fly the planes?
They are people who dedicate a bit of their time to playing the ATC. I also know a lot of them fly planes on the VATSIM network, as others do the controlling. Most of the controllers I've spoken to enjoy it, for the most part.
hell yeah another aussie
Hell yeah! Glad to be seeing a few Aussies around
@@chillainous one day I'll work the confidence up to meet you on vatsim lmao
@@sgtjonzo LOL. Would be pretty awesome to bump in to some other people from TH-cam!
Hello chl
yo whats up!
What am i watching
😁
@@chillainous Just a reccomendation: try the FBW A320, or the Fenix
I love mixing it up with all the pretend pilots on vatsim. It's only a game folks. A computer or console game.
