    Whenever I am about to sing a high note I bend my knees (dip down slightly) and it works like a charm!

      Really? I need to try that! When I was on our worship team at church, I was also church pianist, so I was always singing while seated at the piano or my keyboard. Because of the proper posture that was engrained in me from 11 years of classical piano lessons, it never occurred to me to bend down or anything. That would have moved me away from my mic anyway, I guess.

    Not that we're in church right now, but with my teeny tiny congregation, I would pick songs, as I've been learning how to do, but there is honestly no time for any warm up or practicing from the time I would get to church, go right into Sunday school with just me and the Sunday school teacher, then a bathroom break, then right into announcements and then worship. We never had time for mid-week rehearsal or any advance preparation, for that matter, so between me and the pastor working his other job full-time, yeah....we are so unprepared and everything is thrown together on Sunday morning. I mean, forget Sunday morning preparation even here at home. Getting up in the morning is rushed and trying to wake up and get ready, everything else that seems to take up time...I have no time or privacy for early warmups. My husband despises church or singing in general... so if I'm gonna practice, he better not have to hear anything to do with it. It's really hard to have proper preparedness in our situation... Which makes me wonder WHY God called me to serve as worship leader. Lol but thank you for this. This trick may actually help me in my circumstances especially! I'll certainly try it if my husband ever leaves the house. Lol he's laid off ATM and I can't remember the last time I was alone long enough to relax and practice a song.

      Hey Amanda, sorry things have been so challenging! I would encourage you to ask the Lord for creative solutions and wisdom so that you can incorporate a warmup into your routine. It is absolutely essential if you want to protect your voice from damage in the long run! When you go to church, do you drive alone? Can you leave a few minutes early to do a warmup in the car?

    • @SavedByGrace-oe1ts
      @SavedByGrace-oe1ts 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, my pastor and his wife always pick us up. I don't drive. If there was a private place in the Church, that would help. But we are so tiny and such a small building that you could probably hear everything. But then, even if I did find a way, we'd have a whole other hour of Sunday school to get through before worship began, so I would be going straight into singing without a soon enough warmup to get me started. Something early on would be more helpful than nothing at all, but atm, this is what it is.

    Thank you for the awesome tips! Does tilting your head back slightly help with reaching higher notes? I tried it this Sunday for worship, and I feel like it worked because I usually sing straight alto and high tenor notes.

    • @worshipvocalist
      @worshipvocalist  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Generally no, that can often cause extra tension-the best thing is to keep the neck neutral as we sing!

    Hey there! I’ve been following you for a while and I’ve learned and grown so much in the past year! I still have a difficult time with bridges and up choruses. I get in my head and can’t seem to sing with power. I’m going to try these tips this week! I was wondering if you had any advice in regards to fear and anxiety when leading worship?

    • @worshipvocalist
      @worshipvocalist  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hey! Glad you're enjoying the videos! Growing in our vocal skill is a big confidence builder-which helps reduce anxiety! And also prayer-LOTS of it! We have authority over it in Jesus name!

  • @Alexisdc11
    @Alexisdc11 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Thank you for the tricks! One question though: what exactly in our body are we actually trying to push down? Is it the diaphragm? Is it something else? I've never been able to figure out...

    • @worshipvocalist
      @worshipvocalist  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      In this case (as per what I'm sharing in the video), we're mainly aiming to keep the larynx/vocal muscles in a neutral/lowered/stable position, so that the voice doesn't get wobbly and unstable! The diaphragm is certainly in the mix as well, though, of things we are aiming to stabilize!
