Your 'Friend' aint no friend Sandy sorry to say, anyone who stays at mine gets a bed and a good breakfast, even if I have to sleep in next doors wheely bin! And the boots, Gore Tex all the way my friend, I've been all round Europe and the UK in biblical monsoon season and stayed dry. Best ones mate and thanks for taking us all along on your journey.
@Kieran Dillon fair point, but don't assume I am bad mouthing anyone. Only pointing out how I treat my friends and how they treat me. Sandys call at the end of the day, agree with that.
Hi Sandy, Thank you for replying to my comment. It wasn't meant to cause any friction and contained a hint of hilarity as you probably guessed, re sleeping in the wheely bin, even I am not that mad! Like many I have followed your adventures for years when you have taken us all along on your camping trips with the hints, tips and the wealth of useful information you have bestowed on us all, I thank you for all that. In addition you have shared personal trauma and concerns with us all , and your strength through these times of emotional turmoil touched all our lives. I am just one of many that have been enriched by your videos and activities. I am an old bugger now kicking the door in of 70 glorious years on planet earth. I still camp, ride motorbikes and enjoy life. If I am travelling now I put the word out to my pals in the motorcycle club around the UK and get fixed up. See where I'm coming from here? Yep spoiled rotten.. We all love the things you do and the places you take us to, we all want you safe and comfortable. Best Ones Sandy.
Ah Sandy I thought only today you seemed a bit quiet. Now I know why. Sorry to hear about an illness in the family. Do love the look & sound of your bike there. Itchy boots will be proud of you. I think she said the soft, bag like panniers are the way forward for bike camping. Beautiful scenery up there in the boarder lands. All the best. Andy
Nice film 🍿 There’s something very therapeutic about the sound of rain on a tent - as long as you’re tucked up inside, of course! Beautiful part of the UK, the graffiti at the border has a genuine heartfelt warmth 😂 Nice bike too, now looking at Stroms online 👍 Greetings from Hampshire.
Did the NC 500 on a push bike 2 years back.....superb route but a real challenge. I was in tears in the square in Durness after a bad day but a chance conversation with a classic jaguar car driver lifted my spirits & It was completed in style....good luck Sandy
Really felt for you at the beginning of the trip. I know youve been looking forward to this and it looked as if circumstances took the edge of it somewhat. Good to see your spirits lift the further north you went. Looking forward to part two of the tour. Ride safe and i hope your family are well.
Whether by Foot, Road or Air, the Wiltshire Man is always there to entertain us in his escapades and, he always delivers in spades - a one man tent with his dog or Mountain top in the fog or Tors and Moors in a bog. The only challenge left is to row across the Pond and if he was 30 years younger, he'd be James Bond. I hope all is well in the Spa as your Mandy didn't look too pleased about you going off on your adventures.
Visited the UK two years back and rented a bike from South Eastern MC Hire for three weeks including the NC500. Fabulous roads, truly amazing scenery and wonderful wild camping, and, it didn't rain!!! My Scottish blood ran hot the whole time. Would love to go back and do it all again but it's a long way from Downunder...
Wow! That looks like so much fun! You inspire me to jump on my Harley Sportster, strap on a tent and sleeping bag and take off for a couple weeks to the wilderness! Thanks!!
What an amazing journey to make. Looking forward to part two buddy. Thinking of y'all. P.S. Mandy is looking sooo much better since the heart op....she was walking at a great pace! So good to see
Steve, thank goodness she has survived what was a very difficult op. Her brother had the same op and sadly passed away whilst I was away on this trip. He was just 55 years old!
amazing Sandy thank you so much, for those of us stuck at home due to circumstances beyond our control it's such a tonic to see the countryside like that, so immediate and what a brilliant microphone system you've got ! really hope the rest of your trip is good, always glitches along life's journey lol
Hi Sandy i Enjoyed the Video and thanks for the advice on your biking boots , I have just come back from North Wales ,Camped at the Sychpwll camp site near Oswestry ,Very cold at Night but missed the Rain during my 2 day stint ,I must try to Take Less ,My multistrada 950 must of been topping 300 kilos ,I saw 58 Mpg at one point but nearer 52 Mpg average going back in two weeks time to Kettlewell nr Skipton for 2 nights loving the Adventure Ride Safe .
Thank you Sandy brings back many great memories of days gone by, up early 5 am on a warm summer morning no other traffic on lesser used country roads and being in the moment, few times in life give memories as intense as these. looking forward to part 2
Hey Sandy. Been following your channel since the South Downs. Your video's make me so happy, and you're an absolute inspiration. I'd love to buy you a pint or two one day. Cheers :)
That looks like a fantastic trip that you have undertaken my friend. It is such a great way to see the beautiful countryside and clear your mind. That motorcycle appears to be the perfect setup for you and the gear (other than the boots) appears to be a pretty nice selection for what you are doing here. I am looking forward to continuing on into part two of the series now. Thanks so much for sharing such a stunning adventure with us. Take care and see you on the next one. (I am headed there now)
I really enjoyed that Sandy, many thanks for sharing. The Mighty Strom looked good and sounded great, some stunning scenery, the MSR tent looks just the ticket. With the boots I'm afraid it's very much a case of getting what you pay for, I always spend a little extra on boots, gloves and helmets. You seemed to really enjoy the trip, can't wait to see the next instalment. Ride safe.
Kielder is on my doorstep but I hardly ever ride it so after watching your video I’m going to have a bimble up this weekend then onto Jedburgh Looking forward to part 2 and now subscribed 👍
Fantastic adventure and looking forward to part 2. I have my fingers crossed for your family and hope all is well. Very inspiring stuff makes me want to have an adventure too. Thank you Sandy. Bye Stuart 🙂
I found that I could only drive 200 yards before stopping to whip the camera out!! What a lovely setting for that castle, and the weather dried up....Great over shoulder filming, felt like I was riding with you...Stunning scenery already, eager to catch part 2 now....
Enjoyed riding with you into Scotland, nice to take a quieter route through Keilder. Tent looks awesome. Shame your new boots leaked, what an adventure. Look forward to part 2. Cheers.
Greetings again Sandy, and thanks again for taking me on your journey up into Scotland. you've taken me from some of my English heritage, not up to some of my Scottish heritage. so far my son the genealogist has not gotten us out of Nova Scotia over to Enland,Scotland and Ireland. which is the bulk of our heritage. I thought you area around your home town was short on forests, looks like Scotland is even more bairn so far!. Looking forward to part 2 Be safe mate!. CUDTL es 73 SK ditdit.
Enjoying this series of videos. Bit of a late comment but if you are still in the market for good waterproof boots I highly recommend richa colt adventure boots. They come in a long or short variant, whichever you prefer, they're very comfortable, fully waterproof and really warm.
We did Scotland and the outer Hebrides in July Sandy, we wild camped and had a couple of nights in a hotels...had a great week away in our trusty old Discovery and old Sankey trailer, me and the Mrs slept in the roof tent which is mounted on the trailer and my two boys in a tent...we also had the border collie in with us which was fun, The wife put her foot down with that decision!! Anyway, look forward to the next video and seeing if you visited the same places as we did mate!
As far as boots go Sandy, I've tried many and even goretex ones let me down. Soaked feet after a long day in the saddle, not pleasant at all. In the end I decided I wanted all-purpose boots, so I looked at Altbergs which have a great reputation among bikers, but they were beyond my budget. Then another boot kept coming up highly recommended by bikers: used Austrian army boots. I got a pair of newly soled ones off Ebay for around £40 and they've been fantastic. Keep the leather nicely impregnated with a bees wax and vaseline mix and they're keep your feet dry on the bike or on a hike.
Forgot to add, they're very sturdy and comfortable too. But then the ebay seller actually phoned me as he was nearby with a selection of boots and got to try them.
Bio Unit Zone 3 the richa touring boots are excellent , £99 they’ve never leaked and I’ve had them for 3 years now , don’t think I would buy anything else now
Great vid, Sandy. I have recently returned from cycling John O'Groats to Land's End and it's good to see one or two places in your vid that I passed on my trip (Brougham Castle being one of them). 👍
Really looking forward to your adventure. As I had to cancel my week long trip to Scotland in June, I was going to do a three day blast 'home' this month, but the Covid hotspots have forced a rethink. As you are going to be on many of the roads I was planning to ride, I can enjoy the Highlands from the comfort of my own chair... thank you.
Welcome to Scotland mate, I am starting to get a bit homesick watching your adventure even though I have lived in Oz for 40 years 😄. Another nicely put-together video and good to see Mandy out and about even though the circumstances are not the best . Luckily for us we did a trip back to UK last year before all the C-19 issues, not sure when we will get another chance to travel OS.( did the whole length from Shetland to Landsend --incl Swindon😉 ) I hope you had some good weather and I am hanging out to see Pt 2 of your trip. Travel safe Sandy, 73

Get a Scottoiler fitted to the bike, brilliant piece of kit. I camped on my bike last year in UK and France and my tent is a Slummit Cub 2, goes up in 30 seconds. I bought new boots as well, waterproof, leaked first time in the rain, thank you J&S motorcycle clothing, 80 quid wasted.
Great video, Sandy. Loved the helmet cam footage. Your tent looks identical to the ones Steve & Michelle are using right now (they are currently walking from John O’Groats to lands end - see my latest video for details 😁) I’m thinking of possibly doing the NC 500 either this year, or next so looking forward to watching your next episode. Thanks for sharing.
Hi Rick, You should manage the whole route in your van quite easily. The hardest bit will be the Applecross pass, Bealach na ba, they say campers should not do that route but that really only applies to real long campers. Yes I saw those two camped in your back garden on a hot day. The Elixir tent is well made. I don't fancy walking the length of britain though!:)
Nice one good to see you up in Northumbrerland my neck of the woods. If you ever get a chance its worth driving down our coastal route plenty of thing to see. (:
I just rebooked my postponed Scotland trip yesterday so watching your adventure with great interest. I’m not going till April sadly. I’ll be interested in how the tent fares up. Cheers Sandy.
All boots leak eventually, even Goretex. Get yourself an Ultimateaddons waterproof case for your phone. A great investment. Keeping the tent in a separate bag is essential when it's soaking wet. However I think you are very brave cramping North of Swindon 😊 I am going to Scotland on the bike 1st week in October but we have a caravan booked North West of Glasgow. Hoping for a dry week🤞 Enjoying your channel 👍
What a wonderful trip! You've made me jealous now Sandy. It must be over ten years since I was last camping in Scotland. Brilliant.
Noel
The last time I camped in Scotland was when I walked the West highland way 5 years ago Noel. It was good to go back. The trip was great
