Man Music doesn’t have to be this wonderful piece of art with a bunch of substance to it, literally just has to be enjoyable enough to make you wanna listen to it again.
You’re right but the fact that he’s blown up so big and being pushed on society as this amazing talent means he needs to show it! He just isn’t that deep artistically, and many more rappers should have been pushed into the forefront than him. He’s a good dude seems like though.
My biggest issue with Jack Harlow is that his songs don't have a lot of replay value. Only songs from him I can see people going back to is What´s popping and the Tyler Herro track which are decent hits
It’s crazy to me, cause if this was some new artists first project we’d probably go crazy saying “this guys next up” n all that but still call this his best project for the rest of his career. But just cause he released this album now people are trying to hate. It’s solid music.

Shawn hating so hard. Bro will listen to J Cole do this sort of record and call it album of the year and then when Jack Harlow is spitting with that hunger he's wack.
Shawn how can you say "this is a car ride with no destination" or "you don't know what he was going for" or "has no substance"? The "destination" was clearly to prove his rap skills after the reception of CHTKMY, which I think he did for the most part on this album. album felt concise, vulnerable, and shows his ability to spit introspective bars about his life on beats and make it sound decent - which is hard... You a certified hater 💀
Ya'll remember when shawn tried to enjoy music. the good ol days where he would have fire in the thumbnails lmao. that era of like 2016-2018 shawn was undefeated but then again mainstream music has taken a huge downturn since the end of that era so I can only imagine that it turned him into a hater.

What I need for Jack Harlow to understand is that he needs to find other sounds that are unique to him. And while it's cool that he's rapping better, he sounds like he's got more of a fire lit under his ass this time around, I think he should catch up a bit more differently and find certain sounds that he connects with that aren't just Kanye or Drake. But I mean, I would rather that Jack play catch up rather than let his momentum be left in the dust. I much prefer this album over Come Home The Kids Miss You.
That's what I'm saying,in my opinion Jack Harlow is trying way too hard to replicate what G-Eazy did in 2014/2017.The only reason why I feel like he gets more respect than G-Eazy in hip hop is simply because he has a funny/charismatic personality. They also have the similarity that they both rep the town they were born in.
i dont get it bruh. hes either emulating drake in flow, emulating kanye in production, or emulating cole in story telling. what part of this was emulation? the soul sampled beats? the flow that isnt particularly reminiscent of anyone specific? the fact that he actually tried to talk about interesting topics and tell them from multiple perspectives? you guys treat jack the exact opposite way shawn thinks people treat him. if an upcoming black artist released this project you wouldn't hear a soul sample and say hes "emulating" anyone. you would say hes "kanye inspired" at most, but since its him, any similarity to other artists is automatically negative.
@@judekaraki1650 I don't get what Jack is trying to do, artistically speaking. If you want an idea of what is pushing you comfort zone, listen to JPEGMafia latest album.

6:26 - The moment everyone's been waiting for. When I first heard this album and I got to "Gang Gang Gang" I was like "Am I listening to the right album?". How did we go from "First Class" to this in a year? I knew Shawn was gonna have a fucking field day with this. Now it's Fantano's turn. I'd rate the album a 7. Fav tracks: Common Ground, They Don't Love It, Ambitious, Is That Ight?, No Enhancers, Blame On Me, Questions Least fav track: It Can't Be
I think the reason we went from "First class" to this is because Jack was going for a mainstream appeal with his last project. Due to it not being received too well, he decided to change it up a bit. At least thats what I think.
How did you have nothing to say about Blame On Me?!? Personally, it hit home to me hard bc I have a brother 12 years older than me and luckily I had the opposite experience growing up with him being everything Jack’s older brother wasn’t. Even had to share it with my brother and take a moment to remind him how grateful I am for him texting him about it the other day. So yeah that song was a vibe and a half to me, but to each their own. That’s the beauty of art 🙏🏼 All love, more life brotha!!
Jack actually has a younger brother. he raps from his brother's perspective, then from his own and finally from his father's. As someone who has a younger brother and unfortunately had a similar situation, that song hits me right in the soul
Shawn - “he said good, the actual grammatically correct word is ‘well.’ He’s trying too hard to appeal to that inner-city listener plagued by socioeconomic woes by emulating their struggle while placating their sense of reality. And that’s why goal has no net behind him.” 😭😭
I get not wanting to like Jack Harlow but at a certain point it's just an unfair level of scrutiny lmfao. Also, since when are we telling artists who actually have something to say just put it in a tweet? If he wants to make a point like he did on gang gang gang, let the man do it through art. So many classic hip hop songs are made that way. Also acknowledging one problem (people not holding their friends accountable) doesn't take away from another problem (supporting vitims)... that's such internet shit lmao no one thinks that way irl. Plus if anything, holding abusers accountable IS a major part of supporting victims.
the point of the "this could be said in a tweet" comment is that the substance of the song doesn't go any deeper than what could be said in a tweet. it's not about telling artists to just tweet instead of make a song, its about the fact that an artist should be able to flesh out the concept more than that.
@@bigol9223 I got that but I feel that the song did do that. His criticisms of how maybe it could be better and how a better artist would've done it differently are fair, but that just means there's better artists out there. The criticism shouldn't be "just make it a tweet instead", the criticism should then be "do it better". Just like everything else in the video, he took an okay criticism and worded it in the most inflammatory way because he clearly hates harlow lmao
Jack: makes thoughtless album Shawn: hates it cuz he needs to put more effort and energy Jack: makes introspective album Shawn: hates it cuz its corny and he doesnt understand what hes saying no more
the more i listen to it, the more i feel like he had some solid content and ideas here but he’s not interesting enough as a writer to pull it off well. i think you nailed it here honestly, this project isn’t WILDLY different to his last unfortunately.
I personally found the flows, bars and rhymes just so much more interesting and Harlow just sounded way more in-tune with the production in this album than in CHTKMY (not even mentioning the 'change' in personality and direction which you didn't acknowledge and I suppose I understand) I'll say that I already liked Harlow before, even those radio tracks from his 2 studio albums so there's some bias on my part, but I'm really surprised to see how you'd say that "there's no difference" (like what?!?!?!?) Totally understand you not vibing with this album but to say that there was no improvement just feels like pure hating I'm sorry
He didn't improve lyrically, he went from rapping mediocre bars about fuck boy shit to rapping mediocre bars about his story and his drive. Just because he finally is talking about something on a better beat selection doesn't make this album great. It's a 5 or 6 outta 10.
At 13:16 he related to the song so much that he was terrified of broaching the subject, so he didn't even touch it. If you know, you know. He clearly just doesn’t like Jack and won't admit that he's good. Lol
Shawn be baiting hate comments with these titles on purpose lol, most of these videos he be giving valid points and even liking some of the tracks but people comment just based on the title alone.
thats what I was thinking as this album was good its a building block or foundation to what he wants to do next and thats all nothin bad about doing that
Personally compared to " come home the kids miss you " this was a refreshing listen . I love soul beats with just bars . Also yall take for granted this is who jack Harlow was b4 he became main stream
Don’t really know how you can hate the album that much, I thought Come Home The Kids Miss You was trash but here he’s better and more direct to the point, less filler, beats were solid, substance was not as bad as Shawn plays it out to be. It’s like Jack listened to what people were complaining about last album and adjusted it, made it better and he’s still getting criticized lol. Not a home run but not a foul ball either. 2nd base is fine, 2nd base is good
Guess what criticism isn't bad. It's a normal part about making music and people should stop acting like everyone should just be in echo chamber saying it's fye it's fye nah frfr it's fye
why would he stop getting criticized just because he's trying? two major albums in a row that are mid at best with nothing outstanding about them aren't made into better music just because you're rooting for the guy hoping he knocks it out the park someday. (low-key i am too but it's just not happening yet)
I don’t listen to Jack at all but I checked this project out and it is was nice imo, nothing crazy but there’s definitely some replay value on some tracks. Especially Denver to me, my favourite off of it
These artists need to just ignore people this is amazing and beautiful if someone decides that came out your mouth before they already made up their mind this was amazing beautiful and stop playing with him
Jack did his thing on this project. There’s definitely not a lot of bars and the beats are repetitive but I like the music and the introspective part. Still can see where ShawnCee’s coming from tho. ✌️✌️✌️
I like the concept he was going for with a handful of short tracks where he just speaks on topics that are on his mind and isn't trying to just continue the radio star vibe. With that said I still think one of the biggest problems he has as an artist is really finding a way to express anything besides the most basic concept and observations. A couple of these tracks felt like he *wanted* to really say something but really didn't get anywhere. Notably on the intro track, he essentially describes himself, and says "common ground isn't that common" ..... what point is he trying to make, aside from exactly what Shawn said here- that he's trying to be like "hey black people I get it" but has nothing to say aside from that? If he, like other white hip hop types that do that, feels that he can't say anything more than what he's echoing from black people because he feels it's not his place...why even make the song? And if thats not how he feels...again what is the point other than just trying to signal that he's "one of the good ones"
@@Natak222 well I think it isn’t fair to expect someone to become philosophical when they decide to tackle topics personal to them for an album. Jack kinda set this up with the first words he said on common ground. These are just things on his mind. He’s not gonna circle around a thousand entendres like Kendrick and doesn’t quite have the ability to expand on these the way other more mature artist have. However he’s allowed to just vent what’s on his mind about himself and his insecurities, calling that low effort just shits on the vulnerability it took to write some of the songs and the topics. What do you think?
Can people stop gasing up these boring rappers and shoving it in our faces and put that shine one someone else who actually not only deserves it but, but exceeds expectations

@@raynium1 okay then , when west side gunn is spittin, does his delivery sound like someone else and if so do they do it better then him, anytime jack goes outside the box it’s usually ass, he’s easily one of the most unseasoned rappers out but he plays it like he isn’t lol

This album was the first time I really jammed dude in any capacity and he gained a fan so I guess mission accomplished on his part. This feels like a moment for Jack, that we have seen a hundred times from other artists. They go back to their roots, show improvement and promise, but dont really deliver anything great. You expect them to continue on that path for their next album but really come with the heat, and then they just go back to experimental BS or tiktok pop

Ngl he always been sounding like this tho in his old albums. He prolly jus wanted a chill album for this one rather than variety
i dont get it bruh. hes either emulating drake in flow, emulating kanye in production, or emulating cole in story telling. what part of this was emulation? the soul sampled beats? the flow that isnt particularly reminiscent of anyone specific? the fact that he actually tried to talk about interesting topics and tell them from multiple perspectives? you guys treat jack the exact opposite way shawn thinks people treat him. if an upcoming black artist released this project you wouldn't hear a soul sample and say hes "emulating" anyone. you would say hes "kanye inspired" at most, but since its him, any similarity to other artists is automatically negative.

It's cause jack talking about his experiences, and he thinks just cause he can't relate to HIS substance and his story that it's trash
Jack actually has a younger brother. he raps from his brother's perspective, then from his own and finally from his father's. As someone who has a younger brother and unfortunately had a similar situation, that song hits me right in the soul
Yo Shawn had to reach in his hater bag for this one😂😂😂 Jack gon needs a Future feature to win this man over

Feels like you didn't listen to Shawn's comments all the way through, I think he articulated himself thoroughly.
the point of the "this could be said in a tweet" comment is that the substance of the song doesn't go any deeper than what could be said in a tweet. it's not about telling artists to just tweet instead of make a song, its about the fact that an artist should be able to flesh out the concept more than that.
@@bigol9223 I got that but I feel that the song did do that. His criticisms of how maybe it could be better and how a better artist would've done it differently are fair, but that just means there's better artists out there. Just like everything else in the video, he took an okay criticism and worded it in the most inflammatory way because he clearly hates harlow lmao

cant someone just make something saying stuff and getting stuff out they mind? does it have to be a masterpiece appealing to everyone??
Word
Sounds like you’re essentially asking if it’s ok to drop a low effort album
