So when looking for an ICU job (baby future nurse here. BSN graduation is September 2024 ♥️) how do I know if it is a mixed ICU?

Also how can we go to these events if we aren’t AANA members?

    • @CRNASchoolPrepAcademy
      @CRNASchoolPrepAcademy  ปีที่แล้ว +1

There is an upcoming event with CSPA and the AANA that you don't need to be a member for; also, stay tuned as the AANA is working on options for RNs to have access ;)
Here's the upcoming event link: bit.ly/3ZmVmzo
Hope you can make it! Cheers!

I got in on Friday! Still can’t believe it. CVICU background, our unit sends 1 or 2 RNs each year to CRNA school.

For pre requisite classes. Is it okay to take classes at a community college or should I pay more money to take them at a university? Thank you! 🙏🏼

This is a loaded question! Your absolute best-bet in ANY scenario regarding meeting requirements for CRNA School is to contact the program(s) you're interested in and ask them specifically if they accept XYZ class at ABC school.
      Some do, some don't.
Are these pre-reqs because you didn't get certain science courses in nursing school and you need them to meet minimum requirements? Are they retakes (*and if so, does your desired program even consider retakes?) or are these "Extra" Grad-Level courses to boost your GPA (confirm that the community college is in fact offering GRADUATE level and not undergrad level classes then).
This would be a GREAT question to present to your CRNA Program Faculty Mentors during a weekly Office Hours coaching call! :)
Hope this helps give you some insights-- cheering you on!

@@CRNASchoolPrepAcademy so I was pre med before nursing school. I originally switched to nursing because I was burnt out of school but wanted to do something in the medical field. I already took majority of the classes. Calculus, organic chem 1 &2, etc. however it says I need to have taken the classes in the last 5 years (I’ve been working as a nurse for 4 years plus 20 months of nursing school before that so it’s been over 5 years ago).
The school I would love to go to crna school at is the same school I got my BSN at.
I’ll have to give them a call! I really appreciate you responding to me.

Will an ICU experience in the UK be considered when I apply to a CRNA program in the USA.

    • @CRNASchoolPrepAcademy

Programs will want you to have experience in the US.
Essentially you will follow all the same requirements as everyone else so the academy will be highly beneficial. The main thing you will need to do differently is get your ADN/BSN evaluated for equivalency. WES can do this.
You can also book a transcript audit with Dr. Ballister. She was a assistant program director for MUSC (South Carolina) for over 10 years and sat in the interview committee. She is very knowledgeable on this area. You can book this service via her service page on TeachRN.

I would do this step first so you know if you have additional courses ahead of you😊
You will need to gain ICU experience here in the states for the 1-2 year minimum depending on your program.
The Academy can then help plug you into the community and become a competitive candidate 🙂
This article has information about coming to work in the US as a foreign-educated nurse: nurse.org/articles/work-in-us-as-foreign-educated-nurse/#:~:text=The%20majority%20of%20foreign%2Dtrained,be%20obtained%20before%20immigrating%20legally.
Lastly, I'd download a copy of our Free 8 Steps to CRNA Planning Guide; it will help you understand all the requirements and begin the planning process. Here's the link: www.cspaedu.com/8stepguide
Thank you for tuning in!! Cheers to your future!
