I'm not sure if there's a term for the stars but 'rarity' specifically refers to how frequently a card can be found in a booster back in any card game so in tableturf the rarities are Common, Rare, and Fresh and these are innate properties of the card that can't be upgraded. It also costs a varying amount of bits to upgrade a card based on the card rarity. The higher the rarity, the more expensive it is.

in Splatoon 2 there were some abilities that were removed/ merged with others. there was standard bomb defense and bomb defense DX and i believe same thing happened to cold blooded
