    Man, I burned out about a year ago and I'm *still* trying to get my mojo back. Focusing on non-coding activities and trying to find a good learning/doing projects pace for myself has helped a bit. However I'm no where near the productivity level I was, which kills me. I love coding, but it's like my brain blew a fuse and I haven't been able to find a replacement yet.

      @@pablitocodes I can totally see that because it's happening around here as well. I don't about the numbers & proportions but a lot of my friends/colleagues are going down that route of "I have to make the most of these times" and create freelancing companies/services left and right without actually caring much for the craft, just to get a quick buck.

      The Quality Dev Well the standard here is way lower and more ridiculous. Someone I know that has done a 50 hours WordPress course is selling “sites” (god it repulses me calling it that) for like 30€. So yes I totally agree with you. It messes up the market because it is not a good representation of what an actual website is and ruin chances for us that actually studied it and put up work in it.

    I am an electronics and communication engineering student who is also trying to learn web dev. And I can assure you taking both academics and these learnings together takes a heavy toll on your mind. During the day I'll be solving complex mathematical and engineering problems in the class, in the evening I would be preparing my assignments and after dinner I would sit for learning some web dev. It's like I am storing so much inside my head everyday. It takes away the life out of you. But it's my passion, so I have to put in the work. Whenever I feel bogged down, I take a break, play a song on my guitar and continue my learning. Hope one day it pays off!

    I am totally burned out... For months I need to create projects based on a highly complex framework in extreme short time. Every day I feel totally lost and I also lost the passion for everything... I need help but there is no one I can ask. For the last weeks I was thinking about quitting.. I even printed my resignation letter few times. This or next week I will finally quit. After my resignation I still need to work here for 4 weeks :(

    Ever since August 25th 2020 till date I have not been able to do anything, I got to pause the project I have been working on for a client, because I was no longer getting the motivation doing the project. Takes a lot to burn me out, but nearly happened to me recently over a 4 month project for a major client. Our sprints were over scheduled, work was underestimated, constantly worked overnight to solve offshore issues. Most of the sleep I got happened involuntarily with the light on, always restless. We met the deadline and released to prod on time, but it wrecked my health.

    My point of view, as i switched from Sales representative to a recently junior front end dev, clients are the main reason of stress, the ripple effect of them wanting the 💯% fine bug-less product on or before time, wanting n immediate support after the production or delivery, just because they pay, the stress starts from the manager and then continues to the juniors even related team members.

    Thanks so much, Adrian. So you'd say switching to web development helped?
    I work as an IT consultant with very demanding and wild work expectations. Deadline means deadline. So you better work as much as needed to finish the time - no matter what. Working overtime often becomes the standard.
    A few months ago I decided to try to work myself into web development. I'm under the impression that its more work-life-balance friendly. You get your tickets, requirements, bugs and work yourself through them. One task after another. You can more or less expect what kind of work comes your way. You stay in one kind of work: front-end or back-end (or both if you're ready). But never get thrown around doing a task one month (build a general Python tool) and an extremely different kind of work another month (some random cloud service implementation). Your work is mostly PROGRAMMING. Not programming, do data analysis, cloud services, excel makros/tools, project management, etc. ...
    Can anyone tell me how web development is like?

    • @braindamage6826
      @braindamage6826 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Not seeing the result on a project after months of hard work/learning, is hard to handle. I was getting terrible headaches every night at 3am for 2 weeks that shorten my sleeping time, until the point I slept only 1hour. I even tried to keep working the next 2 days but I understood it was time to take a break. So I allowed me 1 week off coding, it was very hard the first 2 days, but enjoyable the next 5. Headaches almost entirely stopped and according to all the comments, looks like it's a common thing when you are about to burn out, so it may be a good indicator to know when to slow down.

    • @braindamage6826
      @braindamage6826 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@motanafas-quran Yes I'm good, thanks. And yeah I know that fear of forgetting everything, but I guess, if your breaks aren't too long, you won't forget anything. After my recent 1 week break, I didn't forget anything. I think even 2 weeks would be OK. And even if you forgot some things, it's always easier to relearn something you already know in the past !

    I needed this video so much, but a few decades ago. I'm a type of developer who worshiped some Samurai way of pushing myself since my early days of coding. I always set my limits way too high in everything, including sports. My max number of days with no sleeping at all is: 5 consecutive days, just coding, to meet a freaking deadline that I set myself. I pushed myself to wrestle a guy double in size of me. I did my best, I reached the 3rd year but then suddenly I felt hollow. I never graduated. During my BJJ training, a 160kg training partner fell on my knee breaking it entirely. I can't do sports the way I used to. I've crushed my own dreams by pushing myself too hard. Don't do it, kids.

    Very good topic, very good timing. I worked for 5 weeks straight now, without a break. Fulltime job and on my side hussle. I wonder if good diet, sports and time with friends and girlfriend can prevent it. One very important thing I learned is to set personal boundaries and say "no".

Went back to basics and now would not touch all this new crap which is bonanza for would be hackers exploiting well known backdoor holes to all imaginable layers of layered software.
