    7:23 Check out STZY tubeless valves, I replaced the Cush Core valves with them, cus the Cush Core valves got clogged and could not be cleaned without a solvent, but STZY lets you do that, as there is a hole at the bottom, they recently released new valves too, STZY Max Flow, I've not tried them yet, but probably even easier to clean. I used a straight pick to remove the sealant, easy, no solvent needed.
    The cap doubles as a valve core remover, hole at the bottom is a hex slot, nut has flat section.
    STZY were the first to market that had all of these features.
    They offer several colour options too.
    but I see Peaty's x has hole at the bottom for cleaning too, the hole is a hex slot too.
    There was another brand that had most of the features apart from the cap thing, but forgot the name.

    Thanks for the bike check! This is how it should be done, explaining why you chose a component/spec (like why you chose 28mm ID rims), not just plugging a sponsor. I'm still a new rider, but I love wrenching on my bike and trying new components, since riding is so personal. I'm also a tire geek and have a borderline problem🤣 . Can't wait for more vids on both channels, cheers!

    5:59 Even Deore m6100 will do well, but the jockey wheels use bushings so will make a bit more noise, but won't be heard while riding. I use M6100 SGS on my bike.

    3:46 for wrist fatigue longer frame, higher cockpit can help.
    On my bike I reach iss long enough and cockpit high enough for my arms to be relaxed my hands rest on top of the grip, so I don't have to grip them/hold them.
    I tried Burgtech Ride High 38 was Alu, also 35mm Ø, but it was very har, undamped, super stiff, it would flex, but barely, even with me hanging off it.
    I've not tried PNW, but maybe the flex can be improved for future models?
    Maybe the bar you tried is just too harsh for you, I use One Up carbon, it's very stiff horizontally but flexes vertically, very well damped, comfortable.
    Race Face Six35 flexes in all directions, very well damped, very comfortable bar too.
    But I've not tested both in same rise head to head.
    But good options for comfort.

    Good to hear a great rider going for shorter reach. I'm going for shorter bikes as well recently and it's cementing my decision. Following the current trend I was riding a bike way too long for me and I kept finding myself a passanger with no way to move on the bike, just hanging on with my arms locked out. 😂

    • @kwarnermtb
      @kwarnermtb  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey! Yeah i totally agree and felt much the same way when it comes to being a passenger. I really prefer the shorter reach and more playful bikes! It makes it more fun for me even if it maybe sometimes isn't quite as fast on the clock haha

    Very thorough bike check - I really appreciate you describing the rationale behind the decisions you made for each component. Much deeper than I would have expected :) Eye opening in a good way - thank you for giving me a few more things to think about.

    Curious going over this bike, when I just saw you will no longer be sponsored by 9niner bikes

      Hey Mark! We received this bike right at the very end of 2022 when our contract expired. It was originally supposed to be ready spring 2022 but hit some delays. We haven’t technically been working for Niner for the last 4 months and have been holding off posting much on the bike until we figured out what was happening. I really love this paint job and all the thought that went into it and we wanted to do a video to showcase it and say thank you as we part ways. Hope that makes sense

    Didn't hit my feed, but typed it in to find it. I especially like the tech stuff. As an amateur engineer (no degree but like a lot of guys, like to build stuff) this was great. Sorry about niner. New chapter. Lot of folks did bike changes this year. As far as the crank length goes, I ride 165 on all of my bikes. TT bike got me into that as I couldn't comfortably spin in aero with stock 170s. Never could find shorter offering easily, so after years of spinning on roadies, it just feels right. I prefer a little more stack height as well. Never tried that solution. Just easier to get the front end off the ground without yanking it, or worse, failing with the usual consequences. Lol! Nice to see you guys back in the groove.

    I am 5'10" also and I rode a large 2 years ago and also was fighting front tire wash out. I am now on a medium with a 458 reach and find it very easy to corner now. I now look at bikes that have a 1.8 ratio rear center to front center. If you did a video about this I think it would be very interesting. Thanks to you both!

    1:34 I am 181cm ride a Large Geometron G1, with 515mm reach, but with my setup effective reach is likely 490ish, so that XL from 2015 would not fit me, I had a bike with similar reach, I hit my knees on the cockpit, So current XL would fit me. But never tried one.

    In theory you could make the bike longer by lowering your stem and removing the headset cup and then putting on very high rise bars

    • @kwarnermtb
      @kwarnermtb  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah you are totally right if i went with a slammed Stem, and maybe a 50mm rise bar I could probably get the bike to feel a little more my ideal size, we work really closely with PNW however and the tallest bar they offer is a 30mm rise but like i said your theory is completely valid!

    Hi Kyle. What is the correct size for the headset cup? I've contacted Niner but no response. Really just need to find out the head tube internal diameter to solve. Do you remember the sizing for that part?

    That is a sweet bike. In regards to your tires I see they are Nobby Nics. A lot of people complain about the nobby nic as a front tire. I wanted to run a NN up front because I want a faster rolling front tire. I currently have hans Dampf 2.6 (feels sluggish) in the front and Nobby Nic 2.4 in the rear. But this season I put on a wicked will in the rear and it rolls faster than NN.
    I was thinking about putting the nobby nics out front. Just wanted to know your thoughts on this set up?

    • @kwarnermtb
      @kwarnermtb  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Gaddo, great question! In my experience the Nobby Nic is a great tire in the 2.6 configuration. When i have tried the 2.4 Nic on the front i felt like it was a little sketchy for anything aside from cross country and i prefer the Mary in the super trail casing for the front tire. I agree the hans dampf is a little more sluggish than the Nic. If you like running 2.6 tires i would definitely give the super trail Nic a shot, if you are on the 2.4 tires my go to setup is a super trail magic mary soft in the front and a 2.4 super trail Nic in the speedgrip compound. I hope that helps. On my cross country bike I am actually going to try using some super light Wicked Will tires front and rear and will let you know how it goes!

    • @gaddobronx6740
      @gaddobronx6740 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Ride MTB Express hey Kyle, so I ended up putting my nobby nic 2.4 up front. Man it's such a different bike, so fast and alot less rolling resistance compared to my Hans dampf.
      I had a feeling that the NN and Wicked Will combo would be fast but I didn't think it would make that much difference. There are section of my local trails that I could now go down hill so fast and transition to the uphill with out even pedaling. The tire combo is so much more fun efficient. I also find that these tires accellerates faster and I feel I can generate more power to do technical features.
      I'll probably get a 2.6 NN like you suggested, if things get more nasty. Or maybe a 2.6 Wicked will front too. Lol
      Take care pal! Btw did you put the Wicked will on your cross country? Interested to see how fast that combo would be.😊

    Great video, also interesting to hear about the bike size, my first hardtail was an XL but when I bought my Giant Trance X i went with a Large and found the smaller frame better to handle for me. I also have been thinking about dropping down to 165mm cranks. Hardtail Party did a great comparison, that combined with your conformation, I think that's the next upgrade. Thanks for all the info and that paint job is sick.
