    I had 2 babies naturally, left the umbilical chords intact until a few hours after birth, they nursed while attached to the placenta with it laying on the bed beside me. Also had the placenta freeze dried and capsulated so I could eat it. We need medical intervention in some cases but the message our society sends about needing pain meds and medicalization for birth is robbing women of their primal power.

      I appreciate nature and doctors who are also born just like we all are. Breast fed n faced discrimination 4 it, but omg when I had a breast infection... they saved me. Plus my children were immediately given to me then taken in my sight to be checked out being born in hospital.

    • @infectednetwork
      @infectednetwork ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I agree with you that normalising pain meds for a natural process that's been occurring for thousands of years should be reconsidered, but uh, I'm perfectly comfortable stigmatising eating your placenta. That sounds horrific.

    • @wearelightbeings
      @wearelightbeings ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@infectednetwork They offered to blend it up raw and mix it into a smoothie right then and there LOL. No way was I doing that but I did have them take the placenta and freeze dry it. Then they ground it into a powder and put it in capsules so I could swallow it like a vitamin. Just felt like taking any other vitamin, but they gave me a huge energy boost.

    I really appreciate this interview for so many reasons and both people in it! As far as the American Military goes they are not allowed to talk about it. I've known people who are younger than me and I am not that old had to shoot mothers holding their children because their higher up told them to do so. In a place that was not declared a war zone. Just wanted to clear that up but thank you both so much for all of your words.

    Ari Shaffir has my respects for visiting my homeland and going where few men dare to go. Not only that but immersing himself deep into a rural society and culture without prejudices.

    That burp and blow should be considered a hate crime. Jesus I’m pretty sure I smelled that all the way in jersey.

    I’d love to get on this podcast. I’m a comedian who got mixed up in $50,000,000 of health insurance fraud and the FBI “sober living homes” task force in LA

    This pod is great! I've wanted to know more about Mark. He is respectful of his guests time, with attentive active listening, intriguing questions/aspects and his natural, calm, down to earth personality making the long-form podcast seem shorter as I hang on every word.
    Edit: *This could also be the edibles talking* 😉

    I lived in Guatemala for a few years... the sweat lodge thing isn't just in the north, it's done by all the Mayan communities. In Lake Atitlan area, the natives call it a Tuj, but it's called a Chuj in the north of Guatemala. They use them in place of bathing. I've done it a few times when living in Sololá. There, it's a called a Tuj.
    Also, around Lake Atitlan, it's true, town by town it's not uncommon for them to speak different Mayan languages...the 3 languages I encountered the most were Kaqchikel, K'iche' & Tz'utujil...the last one is mainly around Santiago, Atitlan and the towns south/southwest of the lake. All of them are related languages. I think "good morning" (or maybe it's just "hello"...It's been 30 years, so I forget), is Naqa'bit, Atusha'bit and Wassa'bit...and I forget which one is from what language, but each is one of the three I mentioned.
    Great to see/hear Ari talking about a place dear to the heart!!

      Hearing Ari talk about the Carlos Mencia thing really shows what kind of heart this dude has. He will fuck with you, but his heart is in the right place when it comes down to true human to human interaction. People that haven’t experienced large public shame just will not understand the mental anguish you go through afterwards. I think Ari is one of the most important people in comedy history with how much he’s done and tried to do for the stand up community. “Much Love” -Daddy Lalagone
