how do you go from the ruff bubbly polystyrene to the nice smooth shape.... can you simply file down polystyrene ?? Can you show this on a video please. Sounds Interesting THANKS TonyDG
That's good to hear. I was afraid that maybe you've got so much business that you figured videos just weren't worth the effort. I'm always inspired by your work and hope that you will continue showing off all your great projects. When will your local TV network realize what a great TV show your projects would make? :)
Always a pleasure and so inspiring to watch your videos! I love watching you guys work and have fun while your at it. Absolutely wonderful! Thank you so much and keep up the good work.
Great to see another video update from you. I love your work and videos, and have been watching them for years. One thing though, please consider using knee pads when kneeling. Your knees will thank you later!
looks like so much fun to work with this stuff! But what a mess lol! I wish I had a garage or something to play with it in. Surprisingly smooth finish you got on those as well, I wouldnt have thought styrofoam could look like that.
what kind of foam is used. there are different option in market i am getting confused. can anyone help. how hard this foam are and is thermocol (made of small plastic balls i guess) is also the same material. please help. i stay in india can anyone help me where can i get this
Hello Aden. Great job! I really like your (and your entire team's) works. I am an artist (of some sort, hihi) and I wanted to try some sculpting soon. I was just wondering, what's the best material to use in joining two styrofoam together without melting the foam? Your shared knowledge will be highly appreciated.
I am in australia and want to try some stuff with foam. what should I use to cover the foam after? something that will wear well and I can paint and will last. thank you in advance
Hi Kristian. All depends how strong and durable you want it. Whether it's going to be touched. Whether its going inside or outside and needs to be weather proofed etc. The best thing to do would be to have a look through our channel at some of our other projects that have these requirements. As we cover from anything from a muslin cloth, to a light plaster filler, to glass fibre and strong car body paints. Take a look and perhaps see what's appropriate for what you need, and pick up some tips. Thanks for watching
Thank you for the reply. so indoor, thinking of making a cat bed/ house out of it so it will get use but probably not enough for fiber glass or something like that. what sort of plaster filler as I looked and there is a bunch of different ones. anything from plaster board joiner to finisher. I am looking for something that is sand-able plus gives a nice enough finish to paint and last a reasonable amount of time with 'cat' use. I really appreciate your help
I've seen some halloween prop guys use quick cement, it's more durable than wall plaster/spackle but in the same price rante, while also being rock hard so when the cat tries to sharpen its claws it won't destroy your work.
Cari Garafalo in some of our other projects we use a flexible concrete render that's great for lightweight outdoor pieces that need a shell (providing they're not too load bearing or structural)
I'm soon to be moving into my own apartment and it's long been my dream to transform my new bedroom into an enchanted style forest, bit by bit. Your work is a huge inspiration to me, and polystyrene is the medium I'm most considering currently as I have no knowledge of woodworking and such. I was wondering if you had any tips or advice for such a project?
ryolo132 in terms of carving, best thing we can recommend is to just give it a go. It's a messy but clean material. By all means have a look through our channel and see what hints and tips you can pick up along the way :)
Twisted Endings Productions Hey Twisted. For this, we didn't cover the foam in anything. The client basically just wanted a polystyrene form to cover in a fake foliage. She went straight over the foam with the finish. Was only used for a display, so didn't need to be strong as it wasn't going to be touched
Depends how hard you need it. Can either go over with a soft plaster filler and sand it back, just for a slight shell. Can go over with spray on plastics that work with the foam material. Or can protect the polystyrene and go over with glass fibre. Perhaps take a look at some more of our videos and see what other finishes we do
Wow, Jess is a very fast carver! Great work once again. I find it neat... using the weight of the hot wire tool on vertical cuts... would you be willing to share the details on it? Power supply, type of wire etc. I use a standard drill battery (9.6 v at 1.5 amps)... modified an extension cord to fit the battery terminals and a length of fishing leader wire (steel)stretched across different frames (a large one for rough cutting and a smaller one for detailed carving. I built an 11' eps kayak. Floats and tracks like a dream! Vids are on my channel if interested. Cheerz!
Esmeralda The pink poodle most definitely. Get in contact with us via aden.hynes@hotmail.com and send us some pictures and details. We might be able to create something for you :) thanks for watching
We didn't cover the polystyrene with anything in this case, as the client was going straight over with fith a foliage that she stuck on. Normally we would cover witha light water based thin plaster filler, and sand it down. Thanks for your interest!
Love them all when they are white! Good job!

Great work. I may have missed it, but what do you use to coat the foam and harden it?

How do you cover and fill all small holes before painting?
We didn't cover the polystyrene with anything in this case, as the client was going straight over with fith a foliage that she stuck on. Normally we would cover witha light water based thin plaster filler, and sand it down. Thanks for your interest!
