      @@jbhouseofshinedetails8827 oh yeah, once you've had one or two, you get addicted! I have had many other different brands and even different models of JL product, but none compare to the W7. As for why I've had so many of them, that's a long story. Sometimes things happen and you sell things because you're going bigger, or maybe you need money. Either way, my current 13W7 is staying with me for good!

    They can handle 1500rms per sub so they definitely have a ton more in them

    • @RodofAllTrades
      @RodofAllTrades  ปีที่แล้ว

      JL's current power chart shows "warranty void" beyond 1,000 watts RMS. I had these up to 1,500 watts each and they started stinking and bottoming out, so I turned my amp down a bit.

  • @joeljeffrey7790

    More power

    • @RodofAllTrades
      @RodofAllTrades  ปีที่แล้ว

      They couldn't take any more. I had to turn the gain on the amp down because they were bottoming out on a CT Sounds 4K. That setup is long gone.

      @@lonelybullet1 I did. I had a set of Rockford Fosgate T162 6.5" components and a set of 4" JL Audio C5's in the front and a pair of Alpine Type R 6X9's in the rear. The fronts had two Pioneer GMD-8604's bridged to two channels and the 6X9's had a single Pioineer 8604 bridged as well.

    those things need a lot more power than that lol.... the subs are bearly moving

    • @RodofAllTrades
      @RodofAllTrades  7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Actually, the song I was playing was playing sounds near the tuning frequency of the port, which minimizes cone movement, except for the extremely low parts of the song. Did you check out the other video, in which I show their full excursion? It was a pure tone, or sine wave. The amp that I was running at the time was actually overkill, and I had to turn them down a bit, as to extend their life span. (they would occasionally stink a little) I clamped a little over 3000 watts at one point, and turned them down to 2000. The box was built to JL specs for sound quality, not for SPL competitions. However, I did a 142.9 on these at a competition, just to see what they metered at. I was like - meh. Whatever. Anybody who ever sat in the car for a demo would always say that the system was amazing.

      Dude, you don’t need to over power the subs. That will lead to distortion, worn or burnt voice coil. You should always follow the manufacturers recommended specs. Use ohms law to figure out what is the correct amount of voltage you should be supplying the sub. Then use a multimeter to set the gain accordingly. That’s how to properly set up an amplifier

    GAAAWDD those sound like crap,i just watched a video of one sundown X12 plaing the same song and man haha what a difference,sad thing is i had a set of these gay ass subs too,i think the W3'S played better,i had jl 8's so long ago they werent even a series like w1 w3 so on,then i got two 8w7's then two 12w7's then i woke up and was a born again basshead with SUNDOWN AUDIO you actually feel the bass and no one can compete,and dont support copy cat thieves you know who,scabs audio,they stold from jacob so screw them.ive been a basshead since my first set of subs,1988 i had four 12's so ive seen a thing or two

    • @RodofAllTrades
      @RodofAllTrades  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      First off, the video was recorded with a cheap Sanyo video camera that was like $129.00. Second, most videos with loud bass never sound that good, due to the microphone getting overloaded because of the high SPL. As far as opinions on subwoofer performance, everyone has a right to their own opinion. I've been running W7's since 2002. I have had many other brands, some of which sounded really good. I prefer the sound of these. Not too many drivers can do what the W7's do with the enclosure size or power requirements and still provide a wide bandwidth AND handle the dynamics. What makes a sub "GAY"? I'm confused. Also, I have bad news for you: there is no perfect subwoofer that can do it all. There WILL ALWAYS be a compromise. It's all about the owner's preferences and the goals of the system. I find Sundown's website to be lackluster as far as specifications are concerned. I always design my own enclosures and Sundown leaves out many specifications that are required to properly construct and align a proper enclosure. Also, JL Audio was so far ahead of Sundown when Sundown got started as a company, that it isn't even fair to compare them. I am not saying Sundown is bad by ANY means. I think they make a great product. It's just not a product for me. I've always been about SQL and not pure SPL. I learned early on about SPL numbers and how misleading they are. for example, I competed once against a guy with the same 12W7 and he hit 6dB more than me on the meter with HALF the power! I was curious and had a seat in his car for a demo and asked him if it was all the way up and he said, "yeah". I had him sit in my car and his jaw dropped when he heard my "JL-spec" enclosure. We both learned something that day. If you're happy with what you're running, I'm happy for you. No need to comment and bash what I do with my money. Cheers!
