Sir, I saw a bunch of videos on this topic and it’s safe for me to say that your video and your way of explaining has been by FAR the most informative and simply the best! Whether you’re a beginner or intermediate - this video is very useful! Thank you for that! Cheers
I have been reading music since 1984. I find it very essential to be able to read music. First time I picked up a guitar was in 1974. For the first 10 years I didn’t hardly learn anything could not play by ear therefore I almost quit. But I had learned how to finger pic prior to reading music. But I was just not getting anywhere. I’ve been reading music now for over 40 years. I love it. I can play anything I want or that they have in style guitar music. I am on my Solo instrumental guitarist today and love it. I wouldn’t take nothing for my hobby. My advice to new guitar players is learn how to read music you’ll go a long way and quit taking shortcuts great video young man you have my total blessing there’s nothing like reading music. Have a great day.👍👍🎼🎵🎶🎸👍👍☮️
That's the best lesson, really. All the other ones I watched just assume you actually already know something about music notation, that you can never start from level 0. Finally, omfg. Was it that difficult to just explain the notes while beating a pen? Why didn't anyone else manage to do it???
What videos are you watching? Because I already KNOW a lot about sheet music and all the names of notes and stuff I need someone to teach me how to read sheet music for guitar in a way I can understand 😭😭
You're a fantastic teacher. You know exactly what things are necessary for the students to learn and you go straight to that cutting all the cheese. Thank you so much for sharing your teachings with us.
Thank you so much for this lesson! I really liked that you are showing on your tablet in real time, whilst also seeing you. It just made it easier to understand somehow. I know it took you a lot of time editing, thank you for that.
Tab does offer a lot of information. Most tab these days includes Rhythm, technique, accents etc. It pretty much offers everything that sheet music does but instead of having the notes layed out on the stave it adopts the guitar fretboard. Reading notation is extremely helpful for understanding the piece and transcribing it to different keys or instruments. It's all dependent on the quality of tab I guess but most sources I know these days feature what I mentioned about
That’s was awesome. The only thing I can think of to add would be a way to practice reading music to reinforce the lesson. Apps to use or even a few songs that are easy to read from sheet music. Great video though. Thanks.
Came here as someone who knows how to read sheet music and didnt know how to apply it to guitar. Turns out i was just making it more complicated for myself. Thank you sm for this video
Thanks for the intro. I always had problems thinking of the notes on the ledger lines above and below the treble staff lines. But there is a “face” acronym below and above the staff lines that defines the notes on those ledger lines as well as in the spaces in between the staff lines.
14:43 Very well done. Keep up the good work. The only suggestion I would have would be for you to have drawn blank tab lines on the sheet music underneath the standard notation lines, then you could have drawn in the tab notes for each of the notes you discussed in the standard notation. I think that would have really cemented the concepts you just illustrated for your viewers. Keep making the videos. You explain concepts very well and in a simple fashion that beginners can understand. 😊
Finally, I wish I could pay for it but hope subbing is enough payment! Talk about sheet music for Dummies you really broke it down for the common man who doesn't already know it.
you should explain time signatures before the quarter and half note stuff. it is not exactly true that quarter note is 1 beat. it depends on the time signature.
Thanks for the video! What do you do with something like piano sheet music, which includes the bass clef? Do you like to pick and choose notes and positions based on what sounds best? Or do you have another method of choosing where to play notes in arrangements? Thanks!
That’s what I would do! For arranging music from other instruments, you might also have to change the key so that it fits the guitar better or you’ll end up having to play a bunch of barres haha!
What's the little "4" with the circle around it (under the D in the second bar)? Same place - I assume I play the D and the F# at the same time. Why is there a rest between those notes, and what do I do with it?
The numbers in circles tell you which string to play the note on for practicality. There is a rest between the D and F# because there are three lines of music in that bar to create three different voicings. It looks more complicated than is but that rest doesn't really relate to the D and F#, it relates to the B (a quaver/1/8th note) as you'd need 6 of these to fill the bar they write a 1/8th rest to fill in the gap. The notes in the bar are all played at: 1, +, 2, +, 3, +. So, when you play this bar you play the D and F# at the same time then the B, whilst the D and F# ring on because they are worth more. You're basically treating them all as quavers except the higher value D and F# notes ring on.
Ok I’m just beginning the episode, by the first 48 seconds I assume this is going to solve my problem (I can read TAB but sheet music confuses me so much but I really wanna be able to read / play real songs..!!) so I’ll edit if it really did help but I won’t if it didn’t help.
the last comment about a sharp not in the key signature..... is it not that it is meant to apply not for the whole rest of the piece but only the whole rest of the bar? i am unsure.. i thought it was the latter
I think the time signature and notation could have been clearer and may confuse a total novice. The bar, semibreves, minims, crotchets, Quavers and semi quavers, perhaps a quick sight read using the notes. Great job though Thanks.
Young man...Before you record any educational material, be sure to prepapre adequately. This video could have been much shorter and presented better. I ask that you dont waste peoples time. Remain blessed.
This is the best lesson on that topic out there.
Agree

Totally agree. Most tab is professional. You can meet tab at the other end of the scale, but it can be really really good
Yes but it’s important to learn the basics of music theory. So in the future you can decide which way is better for you

very good lesson able to understand everything especially since you give examples with that epic pen
bro literally just saved me, other lessons are very hard to understand compare to this one

Thank you!!! This information is very valuable, it was the gap I was missing!
Thank you, this helped me understand fairly quickly

I love this kind of video! 🤩
Hope to see more videos like this! 💕
Thanks mom! 🥰
Continue to do more videos like this and do some more video music like it helps me understand more the sheet@@sungminleeguitars
Thanks this is really helpful as someone who knows nothing about music and is trying to learn guitar haha

3:58 yes yes it does. How am I supposed to know where or which note to play?

@@flumpaustin1994 Ahhh, thank you for the helpful explanation. Much appreciated.
It’s kinda easy if you understand it, but you need a lot of practice to make it your own

😊👍
how do i know what fret and string to play on
How do you know what string to play the note on that I do not understand
What S-gt mean at the start of the staff ? E-gt stands for eletric guitar. And n. Guit. Probably for nylon. But what about S-gt?

As someone who has been playing only tabs for a few years, i got lost at the 3:10 mark when you started talking about the numbers and frets 😢
What do the zigzag waves after notes mean?

Which notation software are you using on iPad?
Just take a picture of a blank sheet then write over it on camera rokk
The "and" on the eighth notes should be tapped out as well
Post more please and get more into advance

you said g-string
it kinda makes mroe sense because i played piano only 😭
You should have first shown where the diddle C is, then went up,
Why don't you organize your notes a little better? You are talking east, West, north and south simultaneously. This is not a clear lesson.
It’s not that deep bruh
Why don't you pay attention? Seriously like you just have to make silence. "When the wise man signals the moon, the fool watches the finger".
@@Philippos1that stupid quote is useless here
This is running through All that could be on guitar sheet music; not how to read guitar sheet music! This can't be for beginners...

Worst comment ever. U jealous? How dare u bring up God.

How do you figure out which string to play which note on, since all the notes are on every string repeated?
Thank you for this
