Reasonable people can disagree on this, but to me videos like this are in tremendously poor taste, basically focusing on a gap in your nice normal grocery store shelf or increased prices while you support or at least ignore another persons city being bombed into rubble by your country, with true shortages of water, food and power, medical care, etc. It seems tremendously exploitative and tone deaf, like a German housewife hearing of the starvation of 100,000s of Russian POWs during the German invasion, and her only response being “it’s awful…our local tea shop only has half the cakes it used to due to sugar rations.”

CHIRPER G • How nice it would be to see something like that in the United States, where everybody hates each other? Perhaps these Russians can teach a lesson to the West and maybe the Americans learn how to stop projecting hatreds to the entire world.
Note fellow Americans, their eggs are on the shelf, not in a fridge. They do not do the silly washing of the eggs out of the hen, their eggs (true of most of the world as well) are dirty, but retain the "protein bloom" or protein coating from the hen. They don't need to be refrigerated and still last longer than our eggs.
Americans also do not have on-the-shelf UHT milk like Zagrieff bought. Ultra-High-Temperature processed milk stays fresh for six months unopened. It would have been useful during the pandemic lockdowns. I've never even heard of Niki's baked (simmered for eight hours) milk, but it looks really good!

I went to Moscow 3 times, for a month each time. I noticed shopping there, was getting better and better, and cheaper also. I was looking forward to going again, but then the pandemic, and now traveling there, is not recommended. Here in Canada, a dozen eggs cost $4.99 Canadian dollar or about 227.61 rubles. A litre of milk here in Canada would cost you about 115 rubles. 450g of tomatoes here would cost 113. rubles. Anyway, it was a real surprise to see all three of you together as I follow all three of you on TH-cam. I love all your videos about living in Russia.
Except everything in Russia is organic non-gmo,the vegetables they sell in supermarkets is basically what you will find in farmers market in west, what they sell in farmers market in Russia doesn't exist in the west due to pesticide/gmo use. So it's not fair to compare low quality western food that was raised on literal toxins, you should compare best quality you can find, there's no way you buy organic non-gmo no pesticide tomatoes per kilo for 200 rubles,I grew tomatoes on my own, they never grow big without massive amount of good quality fertilizer,to grow just 1 kg of tasty tomatoes costs a lot because bugs love to eat them, they leave these scars on them which means they were grown naturally, but it also means 1/4 of the yeld was destroyed to bugs, your milk also tastes very bad as if watered down,in Russia they don't pasteurize like in the west, even pasteurized milk in Russia goes bad in a week because they use different technology that doesn't kill nutrients. In west basic milk stays good for 2 weeks which is not normal.Only powdered milk in Russia can have a long expiration date, you don't even need to refrigerate it. Bread in Russia molds in 5 days too.
No need to compare with Canadian products. Russians are better. And in the village a liter of milk costs 35 rubles, and a dozen eggs - 80 p, and this is directly from the cow. And about Canadian medicine, I’d better shut up. After a three-year life in Vancouver, I know everything about Canadian medicine. I sincerely feel sorry for you, without sarcasm
It’s always interesting watching shopping videos. Maybe I’m a shopping nerd but every time I go to a new country, I don’t go to the tourist places, I go to a local supermarket. I live in Japan and was surprised to see that the prices for the items bought in this video are pretty much like here.
I've lived in Italy for the past 3 years and the prices for groceries here are either the same or lower than they were in Russia back when I was still living there... The electronics and clothes were more expensive and much more expensive than in Europe...
Sometimes I compare the food and meals in my parents' and my childhood with food and meals today. My parents grew up after WWII on countryside and were happy when they had something to eat. They had meat rarely.. I am end of 40 now... In early years we were more frugal, we did not have such a huge variety of food, but we had good and warm meals every day, often one pot dishes, soups, stuffed potatoes with carrots or sauerkraut, noodles with fruits (apple, pear, peaches) or pancakes e.g. In summer we usually had fresh vegetables and fruits sometimes from own garden, in winter we usually had storable vegetables and fruits. Meat was expensive, higher quality meat was more expensive and we had it on special occasions. The younger people here are often spoiled, the best is not good enough, they need something special, they cannot eat normal food, but if you sell them the same products as "super food" for a high price, then they eat it, super food is o.k. for them. Food became cheaper, the quality became sometimes worse.... In the last years much food had been produced just for economical reasons (more production -less prices), the food what was/is not sold will be disposed. Sometimes food (especially fruits and vegetables) is even disposed before it comes on the market (the wholesale decides that the products are "not good enough": too small, too big, a bit crooked..)... Maybe we should create low price meals with less ingredients, I try to do my best everyday .... Greetings from 🇩🇪
I'm from Russia, I agree with you. I'm 34 and in the past couple of decades we also got spoilt whereas our parents (after WWII) and also ourselves back in the 90s were just trying to survive. My mom, 1951, says in the spring they'd go to the nearby forest to get some herbs to eat, they are them raw, their mother made soups of that... Already for me it sounds crazy, our children wouldn't even believe it. But we still have it in our blood- do not throw away bread and children brought up by such parent are much more careful about the food waste. Although I do love delicacies, with unusual tastes, like Asian cuisine etc. After such meals I do not want to eat boiled potatoes any more...
In Russia products very natural and usually fresh.Gardens has a lot of people with the fresh vegetables and fruits.People who lives in the city has houses in the country side where do they go every weekend:)))
I live in Ireland, and have been to Russia several times. My friend Alexei lives in central Moscow; his mum in a small village called Bulakovo about 60km from the city. She has an amazing garden and also keeps her own hens...and she is 80!! The countryside is absolutely beautiful in summer. Russians are great once you crack their shells 😂♥️

Very interesting shopping trip. I find that when I go grocery shopping, I try to buy in bulk or a little more than what I actually need this way when I cook, I make sure I have left overs for one or two extra meals. Often times, I will cook a lot more for what I intend to eat so I can freeze whatever I have left for another time. I found that by doing this, I save a lot of money and don't have to shop so often.

Rule no. 1 when grocery shopping is to always make a list before, and stick to it. Also check the weekly flyers for specials, and stock up when a staple you buy is on sale (providing it is non-perishable of course). I live on a government pension in Canada, and sticking to these rules I keep my costs within reason.
I can also add that the shop they went into is not cheap at all. Just like any supermarket I guess. I had no time to watch all the video, but if we take potato for example, in my region it costs like 21ruble instead of those 48 they are showing. One position and already x2 difference
It’s a pretty decent buy. Personally for a bigger family during these times I would swap fats like cheeses and milk / yogurt for pastas and sauces as well as rices, beans and swap meats for fruit and veg. Very cheap, will last a lot longer as it doubles in size and feeds more people. Sending love your way, it can’t be easy no matter what you do. ❤

It is here, for home cooking but there are a lot of Italian restaurants here opened by Italians who migrated to Russia in a big wave about 14 years ago. The first public restaurants in St Petersburg when it was founded were Italian after 1703 or so because so many designers and artisans came to build the new capital city for Russia when much of the city was designed by Italians who were not used to traditional Russian food and public restaurants did not exist. Russians travel internationally a lot for vacations and the foods they try in other countries often become additions to the Russian restaurant experience. Food options are VERY diverse here.

I know what you mean. I lived alone for like 7 years and it was AWESOME. CHIRPER G • How nice it would be to see something like that in the United States, where everybody hates each other? Perhaps these Russians can teach a lesson to the West and maybe the Americans learn how to stop projecting hatreds to the entire world.
@@blindatadas7763 Yes, something you and your race can't do?
Note fellow Americans, their eggs are on the shelf, not in a fridge. They do not do the silly washing of the eggs out of the hen, their eggs (true of most of the world as well) are dirty, but retain the "protein bloom" or protein coating from the hen. They don't need to be refrigerated and still last longer than our eggs.
In the UK our eggs are on the selves also
@Somptuosité Candle Point is, lots of energy is wasted by storing eggs in refrigeration
In South Africa eggs are on the shelves too. Why you all shopping so late?
SE Asia also. Americans freak out if dairy or eggs are out of the refrigerator for more than a minute.

I was looking forward to going again, but then the pandemic, and now traveling there, is not recommended. I found out, that it was good, to go to the outdoor markets, which had a lot of fresh produce, especially. Great video guys!! You are in our thoughts and we hope for things to turn back into normal. From 🇨🇦
Here in Canada, a dozen eggs cost $4.99 Canadian dollar or about 227.61 rubles. A litre of milk here in Canada would cost you about 115 rubles. 450g of tomatoes here would cost 113. rubles. Anyway, it was a real surprise to see all three of you together as I follow all three of you on TH-cam. I love all your videos about living in Russia.
I pay $2.30/dozen eggs in SK. You're overpaying for some organic crap.

I find that when I go grocery shopping, I try to buy in bulk or a little more than what I actually need this way when I cook, I make sure I have left overs for one or two extra meals. Rule no. 1 when grocery shopping is to always make a list before, and stick to it. Also check the weekly flyers for specials, and stock up when a staple you buy is on sale (providing it is non-perishable of course). I live on a government pension in Canada, and sticking to these rules I keep my costs within reason.

Yep especially with food prices going up above and beyond lately in Canada. At least gas dropped like 60 cents
I can also add that the shop they went into is not cheap at all. Just like any supermarket I guess. I had no time to watch all the video, but if we take potato for example, in my region it costs like 21ruble instead of those 48 they are showing. One position and already x2 difference
