Had N since the beginning and had stage 4 cancer surgery and follow up radiation, total shoulder replacement with 6 months PT and colonoscopy and never paid anything more than the $20 office visit co-pay. This was in Arkansas, Mississippi and Montana.

I'm 74 and have the N supplemental plan since beginning. Luckily I have never had any major medical issues so far. But budget is getting tighter and not sure if I should change.
Plan G vs Plan N - there is no difference between the plans for inpatient services, (Part A) of Medicare. All inpatient paid at 100%. And by the way, inpatient services will be the most costly services incurred during one's lifetime. The difference between G and N is the outpatient services. Plan N has a little more cost sharing such as "up to only" $20 office visit copay and $50 ER visit, but is waived if you are admitted to the hospital. Another difference is G covers excess charges and N does not. However, 97% of providers across the country accept Medicare reimbursement so excess charge coverage is not really necessary. And both G and N do not cover the medicare deductible. Finally, because G covers a a drop more, the premium will increase on a faster track, and as we age, we need to be able to absorb those premium increases if we want more "inclusive" plans.
@@sheryllegg845 yes..the medicare deductible for 2024 is $240. And it will change each calendar year. Also, the annual deductible is in addition to the Medicare Part B premium.
Very informative explanation of the benefits from switching to plan N from plan G. My husband is going to be 75 soon and unfortunately has numerous health issues. He is in the plan F pool. We are getting a 10% family discount and for right now my health is good and my premium is very low. But if his premium gets too much higher and my health holds out I could switch to a plan N “pool.” Thank you for your informative Q & A 7:10
18:20. Maryland passed the birthday rule in June 2023. I was with AARP UHC supplemental effective 3/1/24 (only one who would take me) for $430/month. This birthday month, I switched to Humana supplemental for $100/month.🎉🎉 with no medical underwriting. I got my UHC policy with Medicare School but, unfortunately, they do not do supplemental guarantee issue policy so I had to go with one of Medicare School's competitors. But I will be back with them in October with my west coast 88 year old aunt who's changing from Kaiser to another Medicare advantage.

Watching from Florida. My question involves an observation hospital stay and home medications. My husband was in the hospital for two nights and was statused as observation. He was billed for the his home maintenance medications. And billed at the inflated hospital rate. How do we avoid this in the future?
Good question - I thinka Medigap G or N plan is supposed to cover all Part A, but does it cover the dreaded "obervation status" - I think it does, but wondering. As far as home medications goes, I have always made the hospital call in to my pharmacy or give me written scripts to take in.

I'm late to the party, but I have a question. I have heard that if I pick up part A (I'm 65, still employed and insured) that I lose access to drug manufacturer coupons. I depend on coupons issued by pharmaceutical companies as well as GoodRx that my sorry med plan doesn't cover.

Everyone pays for Part B monthly while on Medicare no matter if you have G or N. You will continue to pay your Part B premium monthly and Plan N premium monthly if you are planning to change.

I have a question regarding getting out of paying Part A premiums: I signed up for Medicare in May, last month of my 7-month window. Since I worked for a Municipality, i did not have 40 quarters with Social Security. I pay $278.00 a month for Part A. My ex-wife, 28-1/2 yrs of marriage, just turned 62 this month. I now qualify for Medicare through ex-spouse which would give me free premium Part A. Do you know the process for me to switch to Medicare through her name?
