    Lindsay, thanks so much for doing this shell painting so soon after we asked for it. It's a great one to learn on IMHO because each small shell is less intimidating while still being part of a complete piece. And honestly the furnace is not a problem. Much less distracting than the 'elevator music' in most videos; it's kinda comforting like white noise recordings people buy for de-stressing LOL.

    Sweet, humble little shells captured magnificently - I love it. (and after 6 years, I still don't mind the furnace, it leads me to feel that behind the scenes the hearth and home is warm for your family.. cosy :)

    I love to watch your tutorials. You are one of the few artists who work in real time, and you almost always give the reasons for doing what you do. Great video Lindsay! 😆 Your not talking to yourself if I am answering you back. 😉 Nope, the furnace doesn't bother me at all. It's just a necessary background noise that isn't loud. Granted, I understand more now as to why you are worried about it, now that I make videos. Noises that I was used to now seem louder when I am trying to film. 😲 You share your time and knowledge, so a little noise isn't gonna hurt anyone. 😆 I have had to turn on my heater and wear a couple of layers for a couple of weeks already. My studio was 48 the other day when I went in.

    • @thefrugalcrafter
      @thefrugalcrafter  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      yikes! I just cleaned out the office and set up my winter workspace this weekend!

    • @DrawingWithFire
      @DrawingWithFire 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      lol! 😆 Yep, in fact after I typed the last comment, my studio was 45. Once I turn on the heater, I can start taking layers off about 30 mins later. 53 starts feeling warm surprisingly. Granted my studio (though the room was built inside the garage) is a little bit smaller than yours, it is easier to heat. Funny being in Az, but cooler than maine...lol 😉 We have gotten about 3" of snow in the last couple of hours and we are to get more through the night and into to tomorrow. My watercolors shouldn't have an issue should they? I haven't had a problem in the past and it doesn't drop below freezing in the studio, but do you think I should store them in hubby's studio? I know the cold causes issues with acrylics & oils which is one reason I gave hubby the indoor studio. I'm drawing with fire so cold isn't an issue for my main supplies. 😉

    I love shells, even for decor in the summer. Getting the sometimes subtle shades of colors in a watercolor painting isn't easy for me; as a newbie there's the danger of over working. I'm still working through the layering and I need to be more patient ( that's a life long goal lol). I really like this lesson, it was easy to follow. Still loving the learning process and your tutorials are an awesome gift for all of us, all year long. Really beautiful shells.

    I like the snailhouse you spilled water on after better btw,grin. Thats just me tho: I Go Mental when I lose my white line. Wich is kinda frustrating when the only decent brush I own is an 8 (or 7) round sable,jaiks (I draw bigger so it fits my brushsize, since I don't have much options,lol). So my gelpen is my best friend when it comes to fine white lines. Specially Handy pen to have when you have tremmors in your hands like me, small white lines & I do not mix well unless done with my magic pen :)

    Hi lindsay, I asked this on your blog but could you do a comparison to the princeton snap line and princetons regular watercolor brushes ps I have been waiting to see this since yesterday

    • @thefrugalcrafter
      @thefrugalcrafter  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Princeton has lots of different lines of brushes, you can't beat the snap line for price and quality. Sorry I missed your blog comment, I have had 2 giveaways this week and I have not sifted through the comments:( The SNAP brushes are great workhorses and great for beginners. When you feel like you want a thirstier brush try a neptune, a #6-#10 round is a great all around brush, get the biggest in that range you feel comfortable with. I really don't think Princeton makes a bad brush, they make brushes for different media, just make sure you get something suitable for watercolor and yu will be good:)

    I'm a bit of a nutso crafter.
    I figured out more than a decade ago that I could use my ink-jet printer to print on tracing paper and... wait for it... use the wrong side of a brush (AKA the point of the handle) to trace a design from tracing paper (usually a photo I printed onto the thinnest velum possible) and "mar" the watercolor paper on which I planned to paint, thereby creating "invisible" outlines that were immediately "filled in" the moment that water and paint flowed into the indentations I created using this method.
    Which is to say that I've got lots and lots of photos of sea shells, I've got even more images I can Photoshop for the purposes of creating outlines to be filled in with "authentic" watercolor paintings and that I hope that someone, somewhere will take these ideas and run with their lack of self-confidence (for goodness sake, I never considered myself to be an "artist" until I was well within my twenties purely on the basis of the fact that I couldn't draw a straight line or a cartoon of a Disney character in Kindergarten and now I know that my humility was an affront to God Himself when he gifted me with a creative mind/soul that makes me truly "his image" of wanting to surround myself with beauty...) -- especially since, by the time I was 10, I had begun to design almost all of the designs that were to become the "core" of my closet by the time I was 12, at which point I was designing/sewing almost all of my own clothes...
    IOW, creative people of the world UNITE to form the world's greatest collective of artist that has ever existed in the history of human kind by... sharing really weird tips for how to create a better design for use in creating watercolors etc... because any "creative type" can automatically find other "creative types" on TH-cam, thanks to the invention of teh Innertubes....
    :-D
