I have been watching Stari Grad and its development since 2002 after I bought a house on Hvar. The slow transition to high quality tourism has taken time, and the investments have been significant, but the results are there.

My mother's parents married in Argentina, both were from.Stari Grad, they emigrated in 1901, and my father in 1925 from nearby Vrbanj.
I visited Stari Grad four times, a hundred times wouldn't be enough.

I lived as a kid in Stari Grad (or as locals say, Stori Grod). Can still hear my grandma every Sunday saying, “gremo u crikvu”. What a change from 1958 when I was there! Yeah, am 70 now.
What a great place to grow up.
Where about did you end up moving? Was it overseas, apparently a lot of people left the island to go new zealand and Australia. My father was born and raised in zastrazisce and left in 1972 to move to new zealand. We go back every couple of years to see all the family. All the best

It is a great place
You are a wonderful person and what you do is truly Magnificent (and I don't mean that only because you speak affirmatively about Croatia and thus bring Croatia closer to foreigners and the world, but what you do would be equally wonderful if you did the same in Vietnam, China, Thailand or any other destination in the World) simply what you do is extremely interesting and useful to people at the same time. And that's why I thank you from the bottom of my heart for your work and effort.

I would add to your sailing destination explanation:
Stari Grad is definitely the SAFEST harbour (along Vrboska) on the island, as Hvar is pretty open to the south and southwest winds and swell, and also gets pretty nasty gusts of bura (NE night wind), while Jelsa is completely open to bura from Biokovo and can get very nasty if you're caught there (if it's not bura there are no problems though).
A skipper should watch out though if there is strong swell from NW (tramuntana) that the sea level might rise in the inner harbour on high tide, so it is advised to keep the anchor tight and the stern away from the pier.
If there is no place in the Stari Grad harbour, you can always sail to the mentioned bay (actually five fingered bay) of Tiha (meaning Calm Bay). There you are completely safe on any wind, so no worries at all.
Good to mention (especially for people that had experienced Stari Grad some 15-20 years ago) that the Fonja (brackish water channel) and the harbour had been fully cleaned and that the bad smell that sometimes (better said always) was present is NO MORE :)

Hvar is an amazing island. I say this with extreme bias. My father is from zastrazisce, jelsa is beautiful and stari grad too. I lived there for nearly 2 years and loved it, all my fathers side of family is there. Recommended people checking out the island, at night time jelsa is so beautiful. Cafes and restaurants by the water on this beautiful island. Never saw a physical fight, no robberies or crime apart while I was there. Extremely safe place to visit, people are laid back and food is awesome !

We are going to Starri Grad in September to get Married it will be my second trip there. My wife’s father has a house in the old town. We are moving to Zagreb next year so I look forward to spending a lot more time on Hvar. Thanks for the tips!

Edward VIII visited Starigrad in 1936, shortly after his accession, on the notorious Adriatic cruise with his mistress. it was evidence in the abdication crisis. 'Old' Botteri took a photo of him on the Riva and it's on the wall in the Đjurin Podrum restaurant.

Malo Misto is a universal truth of almost all coastal towns in Dalmatia, we always find something that just feels familliar in that show.
I actually did not knew that it was filmed in Stari Grad but i was thinking it was all Vranjic town near Split, maybe it was both towns?

Naše Malo Misto seems to capture the essence of the place, yes it was mainly filmed in Starigrad, look for the scene where they decked over the fish pond for a dinner of the town worthies, the post-war socialist phase.
Does Stari Grad mean 1000 ships or something like this? Because the harbour is very good at giving safety to ships in a storm?

To all Germans watching this Video. What's wrong with you people? Why this English guy can see all this wonderful things at Island of Hvar and you can't. I invited 2 German primary school teachers from Dortmund - Aplabeck ( ugly grey beton place in ugly Ruhrgebiet ) to my wedding at beautiful Unesco City of Trogir Kathedrale and afterworlds to reception with wonderful Dalmatian food as Paul describes in his many videos. I paid for they flight to Split and hotel after wedding because they sad they don't have money. They stayed one week at Start Grad, visited city of Hvar and only what they had to say was they didn't like Island Hvar, nothing special, too much dry grass everywhere, to Croatian braid back in Germany. After seeing 3 Unesco Heritage sites, Dalmatia was notting special. Other 80 years old German Ruhrgebiet ex Kindergarden teacher after wedding sow only pour people with pour houses around city of Zadar, non one nice world about Dalmatia after wedding.
That is German education elite ( Bildungselite ). I asking my self, "from what narcissist virus are Germans suffering?"
To Princ Harry, Tom Cruise, Jacke Kennedy..... is Hvar amazing, but to Ruhrgebiet nothing special.

Four members of my family were Partizans, one of them died soon after the war ended, due to beatings as prisoner of the Italian-Croat fascists, other was a prisoner of the Nazis, they told him that after they win the war he would be their slave, as the rest of the inferior races.
