The part about him ruling alone is basically he didnt take a wife if I remember correctly and just took the throne for himself and was one of the factors for Sweden being a super power back then

Wasn't it about excluding the church from his rule?

    • @JorgeMartinez-rp6bx

If I remember correctly, on the day of the coronation, Charles just walked in like a boss with the crown already in his head, stating that the church has no say on this, as he was a firm believer that it was his god-given right. Also, he abstained from alcohol and sex and he would’ve only married by someone he chose and not chosen for him.
His story is fascinating 🧐 😊

More like him being one of the reasons Sweden stopped being a super power. He was an amazing general, but as a king, he lacked some serious skills. Or rather personality.

He crowned himself as hes power came from God, not the church. He never married, he only had hes sister. Only saw her once in sweden from he was 18 to he died at 36

Every song on their CD “Carolus Rex” is a banger. If I remember correctly, it was one of the highest selling power metal CDs ever, for good reason

Technically the part about him waiting fifteen years to sit upon his throne is true in the sense of he was coronated at age 15 after his father charles XI died

I'm glad you're listening to Sabaton songs! My favorite metal band lately!
Listen, if you want to cry manly tears, I'd suggest "No Bullets Fly" by them. A moment of pure humanity during history's bloodiest war.

I think you'd like Screaming Eagles and maybe Race to the Sea. Screaming Eagles is about the 101st Airborne at the battle of the bulge and is 1000% hype. Race to the Sea is about the absolute mad lad Belgian king during ww1, and the ending of it is one of my favorite parts of any song ever.

Please do Night Witches by Sabaton. It's one of my absolute favorites from them. They have an animated story video that gives you some history that really builds well into the song. It has that same big sound that Sabaton is known for with a speed that just RIPS. (And a guitar solo you'll love.)

A similar vibe this song shares is another song called The Caroleans Prayer also by Sabaton

The thing about Carolus that most miss is that he was a warrior king. Dude has to do this show boating because he was a very young king who was surrounded by all sides. He must not show weakness, even for a second unless he would be swallowd by even his own kingdom. On war, he would sleep, eat, and fight with his soldiers, almost always on the frontlines. Mofo was a true warrior.

  • @taliaperkins1389
    @taliaperkins1389 ปีที่แล้ว +1

The man was in the front lines, literally leading from in front of his men often. One of those rare rulers/generals like Alexander of Macedon (and sometimes Geo. Washington) who hung it right out there.

I mean his superiority was proved by defeating multiple countries… at the same time. He never had a truce, only surrender from his enemies until his death.

If I’m not mistaken they say that he wasn’t crowned by the church because he literally walked into the coronation ceremony and put the crown on his own head rather than it being done by the head of the swedish church

It's hard not to have superiority complex, when you single-handedly made Swiden super-power, that was able to have influence over most of the world and dictate even who the pope would be.

His win at Breitenfeld saved the existence of Protestantism independent of Catholicism, "Freedom of belief for the world, saved at Breitenfeld, Gustavus Adolphus, Christian and hero." EDIT Wait, that was Gustavus Adolphus of Sweden. Basically Sweden had a string of Kings first one was Gustavus who made Sweden into a regional super power by sheer bravery and force of personal will. In particular, they took power from the nobility and interposed themselves between the nobility on the one hand and the poor and middle class on the other. Their bargain was ~let me handle the army as I want, and I'll keep the nobility from taxing and ruling you in addition to me doing it -- and all I want to do is run the army, for everything else I'll leave you alone~. Made tiny, resource, and growing season starved Sweden into the single power ruling northern German, Poland, Karelia, and Lappland, Norway, etc from roughly 1611 to 1721.

He was a great military tactician. Be surprised if West Point doesn't teach.
A lot with drilled regiments and discipline, ie march into cannons.
Yeah, they slaughtered too. Better shots, closer when firing, then bayoneted in their faces
Basically what the US Marines are taught, work forward, break the enemy

Back in the days we was so "friemdly" that more than half of our current country landmass is eighter concered in war or collonized bye the original swedish (svearna och götarnarna) people from Götaland and Svealand. And Jon Henrik is adopted from south america to an family belonging to the native people of the north part of Norway, Sweden, Finland and northwest part of Russia. The Sami people some still traition reindeerhearding halfnomadic lifestyle. Jon Henrik is artist and reindeerhearder. Special combination. And even more special beacuse he look, take, dress and sing in sami way but biological not at al from there. I have read about that he have had a lot of problem with bullying in school beacuse of his special etnicity. If it is actual I dont know but sounds possible.

You definitely need to check out the Swedish version. This English version paints King Charles the way the outside world might have seen him; a somewhat arrogant and boastful child. The Swedish version depicts him in a much more "royal" light; powerful, but not too prideful.
I suggest watching the Swedish version at the Great Tour Stockholm. I believe they were accompanied by the cello group Apocalyptica.
