Around 42:00 when you're talking about Sasha's home life- that's such an interesting detail, I never would've clocked any of that. I liked that the final episode showed her growth in that she was humbling herself and listening to/ working with others like Quinni says she'll do in her captaincy, but it wasn't nearly enough. I hope that this was a foundation for a more consistent behavior change in S3, same w/ Spider.
Also, I think you're the first person I've seen talk about the show (including myself) who's actually watched the original. I had no idea that the flat they moved into was Darren's dad's in the original!! I knew about some of the adult characters but I'm sure there are so many more throwback references I've missed. The bird psycho reveal- it was so wasted. It was such a shithouse plot line but they didn't even reveal it in a satisfying way 😭😭😭

Thank you! I think this virus will have lingering affects for a while but wanted to give making the video a try coz i do feel BETTER than i did but still not great 🫠 definitely resting up where i can between appointments and making other things. I hope you enjoy season 2!

I watched season 1 awhile ago so I didn't really remember it while watching but this has jogged my memory a bit. I didn't know that it was a remake/sequel either so I might go back and watch the original now. But my opinion on season 2 is that you're totally right about Rowan. He was the most confusing rushed character, they tried to push him in so many directions I just had no idea what to think of him. I loved him and Malakai's relationship but then the writers just said "psych it's over," after like 3 episodes. I also thought they were going to explore polyamory because why else have him date Amerie??? That made no sense at all. Why have him date either of them if he's not gonna end up with either of them. Like couldn't they have just established Malakai and Amerie's relationship? He needs to be a romantic partner or bird psycho, not both. Amerie was also way too forgiving of him in the end, I'm glad she didn't leave him to die in a fire but are we supposed to forget that he is literally dangerous? He was going to spread her nudes all over school because she didn't respond for like a day but we're supposed to forget that? When he revealed his reasoning for doing all of that to Amerie I was so confused like that's it? I get that it can't be anything so serious that it ruins our image of Amerie but I feel like it was a little too mild to be believable. She has been described doing worse things. I understand him tying her actions to the death of his brother but I think she also should've done something a little worse to go along with that.
I'm also confused that they wanted our take away to be that Malakai and Amerie belong together and love each other but spent none of the season developing it? They were apart the entire time. Speaking of not developing things, the election? Why even include it if you're just gonna throw away the ending. I do like that Quinni won cause I love her but was she even that involved in the election arc? I think I'm just pissed they made Amerie completely miss it because I had actually started to think Amerie would be a good school captain. And then they just did nothing with it? When Quinni got bit by the snake in the woods it was Amerie who finally took charge and led them out of there. I was so sure they were gonna bring that up as proof of her leadership skills and they just didn't. It just felt like a weird way to resolve that arc, I feel like Amerie had a lot of potential that was just abandoned at the last second. I wish that if she was gonna miss it anyway that they would've at least expanded on her getting an abortion rather than just having it be a one episode thing. Cause it disrupted the ending of an entire arc for her and just kinda popped up and went away story wise.
Also Quinni unmasking by opting out of any obligation was a weird choice to me. I don't think it was a real representation of how masking impacts autistic people and it seemed like they were purposefully trying to make her look bad. So I was shocked when they ended the season completely validating her. Maybe they're leaving it for next season? I think Darren definitely had some bad moments this season with Quinni that should be addressed but that doesn't mean Quinni's reaction was completely warranted. I wish she had also taken some accountability or that they had made her representation of unmasking more realistic. Why correlate masking to having any empathy towards people at all? Darren was uncalled for and they don't recognize all that Quinni does, but her stopping doing that doesn't mean turning into a complete asshole you know.
