"Everyone loves Canon's colour science" lmao, I've never heard that in my life. I've shot two films on the C500 Mk II now and just hate their colour science. A CST node to Arri is step-one for everything I've ever shot on Canon
That won't change much unfortunately. It's like going from A to C, to B, instead of directly from A to B. What you might be liking is the Arri LUT to 709, which is a whole other thing compared to color science in log. To sum up you're not liking the "stock" Canon to 709 conversion, Canon color science doesn't matter much here (there's a bunch of different CSTs that will give you different results).
Great video! I have the Broadcast G2 and used it in so many different situations. It performs like a champ. I don’t know any other camera that is nearly as diverse. I have used it on cinema shoots and in multi camera concerts, corporate shoots, run and gun doc, sit down interviews, commercials. The Broadcast G2 just shows up and kicks ass. I am most amazed at how it looks shooting cinema content in Blackmagic RAW. If you know how to light a scene this camera will make you happy you chose it. It’s form factor and ease of use menus and Blackmagic always updating is incredible. The EVF is one of the best I’ve ever used. I have shot on ALL the big name cameras and I would go to bat for this camera every time! If you can’t make the footage from the Blackmagic Broadcast G2 look good I’m telling you it’s not the camera.
The broadcast g2 seems to be equipped with a slightly modified bmpcc 6k sensor which was the imx571 if memory serves me right. Both cameras are a perfect A/B cam setup together I’ve mostly used canon cameras and noticed that their native white balance (daylight) is at about 5000k minus - and +100 to both directions. Canon sensors are a lot more sensitive to reds than sonys. Sony sensors native white balance is at 5500 - and +100 Really enjoyed the video 🤞🏽
@ sony releases datasheets on their sensors they sell to third parties and vendors. People then compare the specs from those sensors to the camera’s that are released by vendors using sony sensors. The IMX571 matches the bmpcc 6k capabilities 100%. G2 seems to have a slightly different variant of that sensor. The pyxis and bmcc 6k use the IMX410 which are shared with the Lumix S5 and Sony A7III and the Nikon Z6
I've been planning on buying this camera for months, and your last video on it is one of the only ones out about the g2. I am so glad I have another video to watch on repeat 😎
A cinema camera yields an image that's suitable for a cinema (theatrical) release. Specifically screens bigger than the largest home cinema screens. Say 15-20ft diameter. Yes one can obviously watch video material (the news, sports, commercials) on a big screen but the main programs, the ones people buy tickets to go and see, instead of free, should and do look superior, to justify the cost of viewership. The cinema sound also, of course. Non-cinema gear can, if pushed, yield technically similar inages, but users of Panavision or Arri or CineAlta gear are more concerned with their lighting, compositions and performances at the stages where non-cinema cameras are wanting to compete on the silver screen. None of this is easy or simple, a fact that most OG cinematographers know and love, whereas the online generations complain about size and weight and lack of automation. In summary, cinema seems to come from transparent technique leading to emotive imagery whereas video seems more immersed in the technique itself rather than the content before the camera.
Can’t wait for the URSA 12k OLPFs flooding the second hand market at maybe 3k or so… I think it’s gonna be such a sweetspot, cause its price will decrease because it’s not FF, but the sensor quality is still ridiculously good 🤯 (probably because of it’s unique pattern, there’s just something special to me about the image of it, it looks so natural). Great video btw! It’s refreshing to see a TH-camr do such a creative lighting setup for talking into the camera, instead of the usual super clean TH-cam studio room RGB look…👌
A used 12k is definitely on my next camera list since I want to do a lot of special FX. I have the Pocket OG and Ursa 4.6k so it's like the ultimate form of that image.
@@MH-et5sn exactly! I feel like it gives you all you could ask for, from a 35mm sensor. Once you have that, you shouldn’t have to worry about the camera body for years. I also think people have been scared off by the 12k a lot. But it shoots wonderful 8k and 4k as well, so it’s definitely not an exclusive special FX camera. But I’m sure you’ll love it for that 🤩
You might want to think about a different color background in the future. That peach toned wall skews the tones and ability to see some of the subtleties I think.
i think a cinema camera now more than ever just means made to shoot cinema, meaning for working in a traditional cinema set. Video outputs matter way more than audio, it has to have a more robust codec than h264/h264, and more reliable media than an sd, it has to be big enough so that up to 3 people can be working on it / with it at the same time and so that shots on a shoulder rig comes off beautifully right out of camera, comfortable solutions for viewing what youre filming at any (or almost any) angle or situation (viewfinders are a must because of this). And maybe there's a few more things that make it a "cinema" camera, but if your sets dont look like hollywood sets who cares about all that, image quality is pretty good with whatever decent camera you choose so choose the one that fits your set and budget. Picking an alexa classic like jake mentioned in the video being a solo shooter is a terrible idea, its a huge heavy camera, the same way that picking a camera that only has a micro hdmi and trying to get signal to 5 monitors without delay is not a great idea
Man, this content is like you’re reading your mind. I’ve always been searching about this specific camera. By the way, what are you using? Your audio sounds crisp and clear
I love blackmagic cameras, I'm just not at the right point in my career to get an Ursa, or a Broadcast, or a Pyxis yet. But I am still rocking my Pocket 4k, especially for wildlife, which I do quite a lot. One of the things that pushes me away a little bit is the total lack of weather sealing, I know weather sealing is mostly a marketing scam, but still I wouldn't feel much confident using such a camera under the rain, while I always do it with my Lumix cameras...
Something the G2 suffered from, some of them, and in the media house I was in, both had the issue, is terrible vertical lined signal noise. Other than that.....GREAT CAMERA
The G2 just had a very specific target market and due to the cost of the pocket most people opted for the smaller package and same features and cheaper cost of the pocket. While actual broadcast peeps especially here in Europe went with the states quo. Mostly Sony. The G2 is really bmd saying this is what we can do with a broadcast camera kinda like canon and the c700 not many were ever gonna buy it but some might. Though at the price point it's hard to see why Id want to go for this over the pocket pro. Especially considering used markets. Though harking back to your original comments of what is a cinema camera I think actually is just a decent brain that houses a great sensor with decent io and a large format sensor. I'd personally say s35 or bigger, though some may argue m43 is fine. The BMD micro camera fits that description. You don't really need or want xlrs as you shouldn't record into the camera just scratch audio so a 3.5 jack is fine. Few sdi outs time code a WiFi antenna a good centre of gravity and balance for rigging Having internal NDs is a bonus this is why the best camera in the world is the Alexa mini / LF and 35. Look at the dsmc 2 and 3 brains. But this means almost any camera these days is a cinema camera - I am so amazed when people are amazed someone shot a film on an fx3
How do you know which noise is best suppressed by Davinci? They say the noise from the Fuji H2S is choking fine, but as far as I know, the smallest noise in the GH7 is in RAW and V Raptor. How do you usually shoot on a basic camera
If only it had a full frame sensor…. I went for the c400 and so far it has been great, I looked at the g2 but that sensor was the drawback, I just really like shooting wide.
Are you matching settings on the two cameras? I get your tests... I just haven't had those issues with the c400, but I've also noticed it likes light a lot unless you're in a controlled setting. Meaning I usually shoot at 3200 base, then bring down the iso a bit if needed. also, opening up the c log 2 and changing the NR settings helps create a slightly softer look. I have both a c70 and c400 on hand and the 400 requires higher iso to match for sure.
DGO and Inter-scene DR sensors do not usually match in exposure. DGO sensor of equal readout bitdepth as the other sensor is usually 1-1.5 stop brighter from the shadows to the midtones
Great analysis, thank you! Just a quick off-topic question: I have a SafePal wallet with USDT, and I have the seed phrase. (air carpet target dish off jeans toilet sweet piano spoil fruit essay). How should I go about transferring them to Binance?
I hate this damn camera! But damn, you’re right about the image ! Especially because I’m doing a lot more documentary work than I ever thought! Thanks for convincing me to re-buy it. Too late already in the cart check out. 😂 Love your videos can’t wait to see more ! It’s funny because I was going to do my first TH-cam video on XH2S and how I don’t think a lot of filmmakers are using it like me. Besides like two I see.
Had two URSAS for several years. I loved them at first. Working with them, the feeling as such and above all the image. But after using them for a long time, all the “disadvantages” of the Ursa came to light. Super heavy, almost impossible to rig, makes a lot of things “slow” on set and the 12K was extremely V-mount hungry, as were the memory cards. Still great cameras in themselves, but unfortunately often too bulky in “everyday life” But nice video my man!
I agree, I had a Ursa Mini Pro G1, and it is a fantastic camera, but was too slow and power hungry for my kind of work (run and gun, mostly solo operating, sometimes in remote locations)
It's a shame this was the only Blackmagic camera to have H.265/4 encoding in camera. Really great for shoots where braw isn't necessarily. I have to say watching your videos makes me glad more and more I didn't get the C400/C80.
The Sigma FP is way more affordable. $950 used, and has every tool a DP needs for filmmaking (EL Zone, False Color, Zebras, Focus Peaking, Waveforms, Histogram, BRAW, ProRes RAW, Cinema DNG, Director’s Viewfinder, Timecode).
A "cinema camera" is any camera you use to shoot a "cinematic" film. Most cameras are so technologically advanced these days, that almost any could be used as a "cinema camera."
I think most people that would want one of these are already shooting on a DSMC2 Red, the Dragon sensor is still going strong and the brand name helps a lot.
This nobody has something against canon 😂😂😂 claims Ursa has better low light capabilities than C400 😂😂 my foot. Your test has so many flaws which is hard to list.. My humble request… learn the technical requirements little bit before pretending to be camera pundit you muppet 😂😂
Man appreciate the jazz soundtrack and asthetic and all.. however you'd be best to listen to your own words. "It's all just semantics... it doesn't really matter... it's a waste of any time arguing about a term this ambigious etc etc". And yes the Ursa 6k or Broadcast G2 or whatever. But who really cares? About a person's individual kit or taste? Unless ofcourse, they have too much time on their hands, and not enough creative spirit. Don't fall for the YT video content creator BS. It's reducing people to spending more energy presenting themselves than into any meanful use of the medium to express the state of the human condition. Why not go out and use the obvious filmmaking skill and taste you have on making a meaningful film? Anything else just becomes wallpaper and noise. Best
when I heard affordable I thought you meant like £500 😂(vid looks great btw)
Unreal camera and phenomenal video as always. Happy new year mate. On your way to 100K and beyond, this year!
Lighting at the beginning so good.
Bo Burnham vibes

Broadcast g2 is the best modern camera by far. B4 is a universal mount with half a century of options alongside the EF mount.
Just Love your videos brother 👏👏 the broadcast G2 is the camera I’m looking for acquire to force me to learn manual focus …! Keep posting 💪🙏
I need to see some ursa 12k love the s35 version

For the price of a Pyxis and accessories you can get an Ursa 12k used. Great camera
If the camera have been used to shoot a film that has been shown at a cinema, then it is a cinema camera. In my opinion.
Love your work, Jake! Awesome style and straight to the point 👏🏾👏🏾

I have that camera, but definitely don't use it enough. I love the picture quality.

ooooo spotlight and green light look nice. different than your normal look but its fun
This is essentially the Pocket 6K Pro in a bigger body, right? Same sensor.

easily the most underrated camera of all time
I wonder if the sensor is the same as the pocket 6K pro. The broadcast g2 performance across the board reminds me so much of the pocket 6k pro.

Yaaah i almost got this years back for my main cine cam, until i found out it wasnt full frame & that was a big no no.
What is the difference between the broadcast and the 4.6k g2? What are the pros and cons?
Our company uses these a lot with the smpte fiber pack. For live AV
It's a shame this was the only Blackmagic camera to have H.265/4 encoding in camera. Really great for shoots where braw isn't necessarily.

i tried the hotdog trick but it didn't work
Broadcast still uses the old bmpcc 6k sensor, why waste the $$ for it. Might as well just save that $$ and buy the ff 6k
Native mounts, xlr, aes, physical buttons, SDI to name a few reasons. Buying a ff camera is a waste of money too if you don’t have useful lenses.

Yea nah thats nowhere near affordable. Great video apart from that title
$4,200 is FAR from affordable, lol 😂
