I checked all the comments, I do not believe anyone else has mentioned this. I did the same swap in my 2000 xj, the 3rd brake light bulb is the same 194 bulb as the side marker lights, for those looking to swap that bulb as well. Another thing, in 2022 Sylvania still sells those bulbs, but now in a different style optimized for reflectors, with no forward facing diodes. This is fine for those who have also swapped to clear housings like the ones shown in this video, or when running at night, but daytime they are not bright enough and cannot be seen well from an angle that isn't head on. I personally wouldn't consider them safe for road use. I have switched to cheapo Yorkim LEDs that are working fine so far. Note this is not a problem for reverse lights, and the new style Sylvanias act like a second set of low beams at night.
I'm actually building a 4.7 stroker right now. I'm shooting video of every detail, part numbers, prices, torque specs, everything. You can see the engine on it's stand in the background in this video.
Thank you! I can’t stand having to hear about the weather, the pet chicken and everything else other that what you clicked for! Cut to the chase! I hear ya!
great video. no. more hyper flash with the ep27 flasher with my led bulbs. my trailer wiring is directly wired to the full taillight assembly. i appears that the box for the trailer wiring is connected with wires no clips. any suggestions? can you buy factory bulb wiring?
Thank you, you can add in-line mini fuse holders with diodes to prevent back feeding. I assume this will solve the problem but I haven’t tried it myself. The XJ has gotten to the point where people are using painters tape to keep from scratching the paint when replacing a blinker bulb. Both awesome and sad. As bad as the wiring in these things are it's a testament to how well built the motor and drive train are. Hands down favorite.
Not adequate would be more of the correct answer as is with the headlight harness upgrade to get the correct or adequate power necessary with these older vehicles. Which is exactly what I’m waiting for today so I can replace/upgrade and get much higher light output than stock which is horrible. Half the time I wonder if my lights are even on at night 😂.
My problem is that the "Light Out" indicator causes the turn signal indicators to glow in the dash. The correct flasher makes the signals flash correctly, but how did you solve the signal indicator glow?
I wonder if you can help me , I buy jeeb Cherokee 1997 xj sport , the side front signal light holder are missing and there are to many cutting wires , I just wondering the holder are two wire or three wires.
Heeey buddie i have a question...! I did i tint all rear and front turn signal lights, but with the original bulbs you can barely see the lights, if i install the leds lights it will be stronger the flashing?
I replaced my side marker and turn signal bulbs with led ones and plugged in the ep27 flasher in but when my headlights are on and I try my turn signal, the side markers do not blink. When the headlights are off, the side markers do blink. Do you know what could be causing them not to work when the headlights are on?
Great video. I just did this even removed the trailer harness. With the engine off everything works great. Turn the engine on and everything works but the cluster arrow indicators are very dim and the relay makes a buzz noise when hazard and turn signals are going like I left the lights on a leaving the veh. Any thoughts. Verified it's the relay making the noise. Bad relay?
I wonder if it has something to do with the hazard light switch. This would have power regardless of ignition position and would also activate the cluster indicators. Try messing with the hazard switch and see if there is any change. A relay powering on by a slight amount of power will energize long enough to click and then expend that power and turn back off rapidly making a buzzing noise. Similar to daytime running lights a resistor may be needed somewhere in your system to even out a pulse. This makes me wonder if there is a bad ground somewhere or if you have power bleeding into the system from a source when the engine is running? Possibly from the tachometer?
@@kevefox I was wondering about the switch too. It works fine as well when the engine is off. Turn it on and hazard and turn signals give me buzz and dim indicators. Now all the lights work on the out side like the are supposed to and beside being dim and the noise they work as well. Going to hook up a meter and see if voltage input from the pdc changes with the engine on and also run temo ground to if that changes anything. Not sure if it matters but the left front side marker lamp on ly work when the turn signal is activated running light does not, but this was an issue before I swapped to LEDs. Got a new connector coming today
@@kevefox so just a small update, didn't get to far as my meter was dead. Used a test and checked the back of the relay connector. B+ and run power show bright as do the the hazard and turn signal pins . Engine on and switch and hazard dim . I also noticed the outside bulbs are also dim . I was mistaken. Think your right as I may have a bad ground, i did try to ground it the connector but no change but may need to be the main ground for that circuit. Btw swapped in a bulb to see if any change. Unfortunately nothing but did show me how weak it was with engine running. Thanks and I'll update once i find a fix
Thanks, I’d like to know. Also people read comments related to issues they’re having so please post your findings....try another flasher too! If it’s a bad one you can return it.
I tried to install LED bulbs in the rear. For whatever reason, with the brakes applied the turn signals will illuminate just barely - not enough to see in the daytime but clearly visible at night. I need to put a multimeter on it to check, but I am almost sure I have residual voltage on the turn signal circuit with the brakes applied (like 3v-5v). Did you have any issues with that? I used the Sylvania Zevo 3156 LED's in the rear and had stock incandescent bulbs up front. I might need to look into those one-way diodes to prevent backfeed or voltage bleed Novita electronic flasher
hey there! I just recently got that same smitty built tire carrier as you. I was just wondering if you had any issues with it bouncing and if you were able to remedy that. thanks!
Dallas Baer , I haven't had any issues with it, there is an adjustment to adjust the level of the swing and how tight the striker is. Definitely worth the price but if you are running a gas tank skid plate you need to do some modifications with a cut off wheel to the mount. Pretty easy though. I really like how easy it is to release the tire swing with one finger to open rear access with your hands full.
I don't know if you decided to upgrade your headlight or not. (I'm assuming it's the headlight) but I upgraded every exterior lightning to leds and when I put the signal light during the daytime (without headlights on) the side marker turns on like normal. However when it's nighttime and I have the headlight on; the side marker will not light up?? Don't know if you have the problem
AmazinglyAstonish I did upgrade to Hella H4 headlights. LED headlights are no good in the snow as they don't produce enough heat to melt off snow during a storm. Trucklite makes a round LED headlight that has a heater grid but nothing in the square variety yet. I would suspect your ground as the culprit. If the headlight uses the same ground then it is probably backfeeding and turning the neg lead on your signal to pos.
I'm having problems with my turn signal. When I turn the driver turn signal on the passenger come on as well. It's not bright but it is annoying. Any tips?
Are those just new marker lenses on the front or what kind are those ? Thanks for the jeep vids im getting ready to upgrade headlights and marker stop tail turn. Appreciate your knowledge man
Jim K that is a DIY panel, but I have already removed it. I wasn't able to read the switch is without meaning my head down so I got rid of it. Prime 4 x 4 has a nice one for your ashtray. I ended up putting a number of switches in my headliner console. Check out my video on the XJ Cherokee fast idle, and read the comments. I posted a link for somebody there to a company that sells 3-D printed switch panels for the rear defroster rear wiper fog light area.
Thank you thank you thank you for this video I didn't know what kind of flasher I needed until now because I even put in a new flasher and nothing changed well I'm off to Autozone now
Quick question for you.. I did a similar swap on my 2000 XJ and put all LED bulbs on my front and rear turn signals and swapped out my flasher relay with an LED one from superbrightleds.com that didn't have a brand name. When my headlights or parking lights are on my dash will indicate that the turn signals are on with the green arrows lit about 50% brightness and when the signals are on they will flash from 50% brightness to 100%. Just wondering if your flasher does the same or if mine is just cheap and I should replace it? It also makes my stereo dim down and brighten back up as it thinks the headlights are turning on and off same thing with the overhead console display and my odometer. Sorry for the long response it's just kind of hard to explain without pictures or video of what's happening.
Nick Thompson it sounds like power is bleeding from the marker or running light side of the bulb to the turn signal side and vice versa back feeding into your signal indicators and also triggering your radio to dim. Try replacing the front LEDs with Sylvania and see if the back feeding goes away. The rear shouldn’t have an effect on the lights or indicators as they’re isolated from each other back there. And yes, definitely replace the flasher with an electronic one. Let me know what happens.
I'm wagering that there is a trailer module installed. The trailer module allows the turn signals to switch the trailer brakes between low and high if driving lights are on. I'm not sure exactly how everything works, so I don't have a solution other than pulling the trailer module.
Definitely will check prior, I didn't know they had LED you could swap in. Do you have any videos of your son's engine rebuild? Did you guys buy a rebuild kit or stroke it? I just picked up a spare 4.0L and Trans looking for recommended parts for my rebuild. Great videos!
maybe u can help me: i got 4 switchback led bulbs. after installing 1 set on each side, i tested them, worked fine. then i put the first bulb of the second set in (driver side first), turn signal light came on the dash, and instead of showing white, then blinking amber, its just amber, but still blinks amber. any thoughts why?
Arkvoodle38 I would imagine it has something to do with the internal diode in the bulb. When you added the second bulb It somehow was backfeeding. I bet if you isolate the ground individually on each bulb socket they will work properly. Just a thought though.
Arkvoodle38 absolutely, I’m on the road so it takes a while to get back to you. What I mean by isolate the ground is the sockets that you put the bulb into Will have three wires going into them when will be positive for the Running light One will be positive for the turn signal and the third will be a ground wire. The ground wire (negative-) eventually makes it back just to a metal surface on your vehicle. Call where the power goes through the bulbs varies on vehicles. Sometimes positive wire will go into a bulb and then come back out on the negative side but then feed back into the positive on the next bulb and the fourth wire coming out will go to ground. If you eliminate or isolate this daisychain effect by singling out that negative wire connecting it directly to ground or a bare metal surface you may eliminate The backfeeding or positive power coming in from the wrong direction causing your issue. I would also recommend that you contact the Bulb supplier And see if they have any tips for your particular application. There may be a different version of the product or a modification that they know about.
i know this video is older but i have a problem that when i pull my headlight switch out my turn signal and rear parking lights dont work. do you have any idea what would cause this
Connor Burke I would take a close look at the ground for each function. Test for positive power going to them as well but my suspicion is a bad ground.
if you go to my channel i posted a video of what is going on please check it out because i have checked the grounds and bulbs and i have put in a led flasher thank you
I saw this vídeo and decided to do it, I instaled the exact same bulbs from Sylvia and the same exact flasher and also fallowed every single step you did, but my turning signals dont work properly: 1. When I put the hazards on the Amber Lights Will flash very fast. 2. When I turn on any turning signal they Will light on but not flash intermitently and makes a buzzing sound
Guillermo Molina LED bulbs don't have much resistance. The electronic flasher is supposed to work with little or no resistance from the bulbs. If it is faulty it will act exactly how you are describing with rapid flash or a buzzing sound. Pleaselet me know if you get it to work with a new electronic flasher
Godless Heathen I got it at O'Reilly auto parts. I'm not sure that it will work on a 96 but it might since It has the new electronics on the motor. (Last year of the old body style) Either way, O'Reilly has lots of them different sizes etc.
Tinkering Fox cool thanks. the 96 is a weird year. there seems to be a mix of 95 and 97 stuff going on. or maybe the previous owner did some weird shit
Nice video. Some low life scumbag stole my side marker lamps off my 99 cherokee. They also cut the bulb and whatever terminal connects the bulb to the wires. Do you have any idea what part I need to install new bulbs? Basically, I just have a bare wire sticking out, so I would need to solder whatever piece attaches the bulb to the wire.
It looks there are threaded plastic pieces that sit behind the maker lens which actually hold the screws between the lens and the vehicle frame. They also took those - I'm not even sure that I'm going to be able to find those pieces.
Joshua Smith Napa will probably have the plastic pieces on the rack and as far as the wiring sockets go those are also sold at most parts stores for a 194 bulb. Also hit up www.timbukthree4wd.com. They'll be able to hook you up with everything with one phone call.
WolfKingJS54 no, those are to trick your flasher into thinking that the original bulb is still there. Replacing the flasher with one the operates with led bulbs solves that.
Hey folks, need a little advice. Just installed led headlights in my 98 sport but there's an issue and I'm just at a loss of what the issue is. When I pull the lights on for low beam they go to high beam, when I push the lever on the steering column forward for brights the low beams come on, any ideas why they're acting like that ? Thanks in advance.
Zachary Barton probably the way the new lights are wired. I would either buy extensions and rewire them or swap around the plugs in your socket if you are going to use the leds
Tinkering Fox no I made sure they were right side up lol, maybe there's a switch I can install in between the light and the other wife to fix the polarity issue?
What the heck , I installed the exact same bulbs from Sylvia and the same Novita EP 27 flasher but my turning signals don't work properly . 1999 XJ 1. with both LED's installed it just buzzes 2 removed one LED and reinstalled one stock bulb now it flashes fast To me it sounds like a load issue , as in not enough load Any insight, or advice, would be greatly appreciated Sir !!

Test for positive power going to them as well but my suspicion is a bad ground.
if you go to my channel i posted a video of what is going on please check it out because i have checked the grounds and bulbs and i have put in a led flasher
thank you
Connor Burke will do but I'm on a road trip. I'll look at it when I stop.
k thanks
I saw this vídeo and decided to do it, I instaled the exact same bulbs from Sylvia and the same exact flasher and also fallowed every single step you did, but my turning signals dont work properly:
1. When I put the hazards on the Amber Lights Will flash very fast.
2. When I turn on any turning signal they Will light on but not flash intermitently and makes a buzzing sound
Guillermo Molina sounds like a bad flasher
I forgot to add, my Jeep XJ is 97
Guillermo Molina LED bulbs don't have much resistance. The electronic flasher is supposed to work with little or no resistance from the bulbs. If it is faulty it will act exactly how you are describing with rapid flash or a buzzing sound. Pleaselet me know if you get it to work with a new electronic flasher
where did you get the flasher relay from? I have a 96 XJ, I get the rapid flash
Godless Heathen yea people tend to mix shit i have a 2000 cherokee sport pcm and tcm on a 01 cherokee sport
What brand of bumpers do you have on your jeep?
Mark Lee Those are Smittybilt
Do I need to put load resistors for the lights?
WolfKingJS54 no, those are to trick your flasher into thinking that the original bulb is still there. Replacing the flasher with one the operates with led bulbs solves that.
Tinkering Fox ok thanks
Hey folks, need a little advice. Just installed led headlights in my 98 sport but there's an issue and I'm just at a loss of what the issue is. When I pull the lights on for low beam they go to high beam, when I push the lever on the steering column forward for brights the low beams come on, any ideas why they're acting like that ? Thanks in advance.
Zachary Barton probably the way the new lights are wired. I would either buy extensions and rewire them or swap around the plugs in your socket if you are going to use the leds
Tinkering Fox thank you I appreciate the advice
Zachary Barton just another thought....they're not upside down right 🙃
Tinkering Fox no I made sure they were right side up lol, maybe there's a switch I can install in between the light and the other wife to fix the polarity issue?
Tinkering Fox excellent thank you very much
What rear bumper do u have?
That’s a Smittybilt XRC....... www.smittybilt.com/product/index/149.htm
This one from JCR is pretty nice....... www.jcroffroad.com/product/XJRV.html
What the heck , I installed the exact same bulbs from Sylvia and the same Novita EP 27 flasher but my turning signals don't work properly . 1999 XJ
1. with both LED's installed it just buzzes
2 removed one LED and reinstalled one stock bulb now it flashes fast
To me it sounds like a load issue , as in not enough load
Any insight, or advice, would be greatly appreciated Sir !!
winging it tracy I would exchange the flasher. It should operate with just the slightest resistance.
Tinkeringfox I Have a friend, that had a flasher, that he let me try , A Truck-Lite 97283 LED Flasher Ford F150 F250 F350 F450 F550 & Ranger Pickup Truck . Plugged it in, and they worked perfect . so I ordered one on ebay , man 50.00 not cheep .thank you for the reply , most U-tube channels wont do that , I wanted to do a follow up, so you, and everyone else will know how it worked out . thanks again, Keep up the good work !!
winging it tracy thanks for the update. I really appreciate it. We all learn together.
