In 1998 MGS, Hal-Life, and Zelda OoT all were released during a one-month span in the US. Clearly, the best month, year, and decade for videogames.
2004-2013 was also a golden age for video games too.

Everything about this intro eminates a feeling of something so much more serious and legit than anything I'd ever played before. It portrays the tension of the high stakes so perfectly. I remember that feeling of apprehension so clearly. This shit was serious and for real this time.
This games technical and weapon details/authenticity are what made it so much more than a game

Yup, this was when my Mario brain turned off and my adult video game brain turned on.
All the dialoge spoken by Colonel Campbell, just came right out of my mouth as he was speaking it. I've played this game so many times, it's all but engrained in there. MGS is an outstanding game.

When I played the game for the first time, I felt that it was made very professionally, seriously and is advanced. Other games next to it seemed so simple and uncomplicated. The moment when you have to look at the CD box to get Meryl's codec frequency seemed just brilliant to me, and most importantly it was naturally placed in the dialogues. The plot, the atmosphere, the music, the graphics - it was hard to find a better game at the time.
yessir! I was in 7th grade and played the pizza hut demo, I begged my mom for this game, im 37 in 2 days, not a huge gamer anymore, but there is something different about this game then any game I played before. The Charectars so original, Revolver Ocelot? cmon LOL

A long time ago when I was about 16 (34 now), my dad showed up with this game for me. Metal gear solid. I had heard about it but didn't know much about it. I started it up...and when that little tune started at 0:07, I remember thinking "oh shit...this game is gonna fucken kick ass..." and it did, I loved everything about this game and have been a MG fan ever since. so finding this video and hearing that tune all these years later really took me back...sick nostalgia.

I never played any of the MGS games but man I could only imagine how stoked I would have been to have popped the CD in and getting an almost cinematic introduction in a generation where games were still figuring out how to implement that kind of stuff.
Yea just ff7 and mgs 1 had these nice intros at that time.
I didnt knew if i was playing a game or watching a movie...when you feel that the game is great and thismay be the best...
I remember playing the demo before the game came out. This was so far beyond any cinematic sequence I had seen in a video game at that point. I coulda shit my pants, but I held it in.

+Joakim Bergendahl mgs collection all 3 games remade with hd texture and 1080p resolution , all running at 60 fps and with the all the tweaks of the past like the subsistence camera on mgs 3 , they even include mg1 and 2 as a bonus (not remastered tho that would be crazy work)
I got the mgs3 collection and the Mgs1 is the Mgs1 for Gamebay that includes.. :P haha.
thats what im talking about , thats the closes remaster you will ever get, especially since konami is nuking every franchise they have at the moment expect a remake to be done by a inexperienced company and be ready to be disjointed

I remember well when I first saw this game my brother came home with the game and I saw the cover and was desperate to try it and my parents was not happy when they saw me
MGS3 is the fan favorite but MGS1 is my personal favorite. It's one of those games that revolutionized story telling in the entire video game history.
I remember when Colonel Campbell was telling Solid Snake the names of the members of Foxhound i couldn't help thinking they sounded like the names of some X-Men or GI-Joe characters hahaha

***** It's confusing, I wasn't good at MGS 1, 2, and 3 cause I was like 3 when MGS 3 came out but I played a lot of MGS 3, the entire middle east mission, the entire south america mission, my brother did the Europe mission, and he beat the game and Shadow Moses.
It's been 20 years since I played this game, and this video brought me right back to when I was playing it. It felt so real then. I miss this game so badly. It's because it was different from the rest then. It was kinda like it was real but just a little off from our reality. The way hideo made it, it was so hard to figure out what was off about it, but it drew you in, made you want more. And THAT is why after 24years, this game is still compelling and awesome, despite the graphics of the day. Bring the graphics up to date, and get as many of the original voice actors as possible to do the voice work, and I would bet this game would be a best seller yet again.

I am going to be honest, at first I was pretty confused on what Shadow Moses was until I beat the game. I was so excited I didn't get the intro even tho I watched it 3 times

Yes with an emulator and a good graphic plugin configuration you can get a good quality in full HD , ithink I will post videos of ps1 games in Full HD , you'll see that it could be nice =D

God, even the cinematics here are just as good as MGSV
Some things are missing because this was recorded on an emulator, it isn't quite the same as the original. Most notably, the absence of the underwater shader that makes everything shimmer and appear green-ish. Unfortunately this is technically part 3. There were 2 that came out for the orginal NES back in 87 and I belive 89
that's the first of the solid series, but yes you are right it's technically metal gear 3, as it's the sequel of the metal gear games for the MSX2, not the NES since all the NES games were made without Kojima approval.

This is an awesome game, and we all know it. Hideo created some of the best characters and scenes in gaming history. But really, on-site procurement of equipment? They get him there in a big ass Ohio-class sub. Just saying ;)
retrogamingdad is done to not give away who is effing you, to make the soldiers paranoid, as their weapons are used against them, to ease the insertion, as there is no other teams involved.
But mainly because it's a game with a learning curve and a designed difficulty setup... 🤣

The English script for MGS1 owes a lot to it's sole translator/localiser, Jeremy Blaustein. You should read up about it, a lot of stuff that we love about the game is his doing; for example the phrase "on-site procurement" is something he added, not Kojima or his team. Sadly they didn't take kindly to his adapting, and he didn't touch the later games. Which does explain why MGS1 feels more grounded and real, and after it the series got.. hammy..
