Books of Blood - Trailer (Official) | Hulu
• Books of Blood - Trail...
The Asian woman in the first half of this movie has the most calming , sweetest, empathetic face , vibe , being I’ve ever seen .. like you could be going through the most traumatic moment of your life and her face could calm your soul .
"Each of us is a book of blood.
"Wherever we're opened, we're red."
_--Clive Barker_
Would that count as gallows humour?
agenttheater5 Id call it a pun.
what kinda Dr Seuss...
That's the best pun I've heard in a looong while👏👏👏
Lmlnlnmpp
I'm a huge Clive Barker fan and this would be so much better if it's an anthology of the stories from the books. The Yattering and Jack is one of my favourite stories and I'd love to see it on the screen.
Tales from the Darkside adapted it in the 80s but it was kinda low budget and didn't really capture the tone
100 percent. The medium is meant to be the book of blood. The tales are all profound in a strange way. This looks generic.
I had to pause a couple of times to take deep breaths. It is extremely unsettling. I’m on the edge watching it.
Is anyone else still not over The Secret Circle being cancelled? Anyway I’m looking forward to seeing Britt again in something new!
ME! And Girlboss was amazing ;) Check it out!
The trailer's music tries to hype the movie while nothing is happening and in fact the movie looks very boring!
I'm so not :) She was great in For The People but yeah The Secret Circle was so much fun :) Glad to see her on screen again!
The secret circle was over 9 years ago. Craving for some new stuff from Lovely Britt.
The secret circle was like the best witch show ever
1:40
My sweet Cassie, you finding this means I'm gone and for that I'm so sorry...
Gosh I miss the Secret Circle. Who's with me?
Facts
I LOVED THIS SHOW!!!!!!😖😖😖❤️❤️❤️❤️
I wish they’d reboot the show. They let TVD grow an audience organically and it was popular enough to last seven seasons and spawn a spin-off series, I don’t see why The Secret Circle couldn’t have been renewed for at least one more season to fill that time slot.
Always
idk why but that show is always in the back of my mind still. and the theme was so cool!
Should we be watching horror movies in 2020. The year itself gave us a scare
😂😂
Ikr,
But here we are
For some of us, it is our favorite type of film.
Makes us think about how worse things could be. Makes us think about what the human race has gone through before all over the world and what they've survived. If reading about the Irish Potato Famine won't make us think that having to wear masks outside is easy I don't know what will.
Horror is always going to be an escape from reality for many people. We need dreadful things to temporarily eclipse the lousy things we're going through, be it a widespread disease or war or whatever. In the 1940's I'm sure that people went to see "The Wolf Man" and "House of Frankenstein" during wartime; the make-believe fears take our minds off the real ones for a little while.
It's just getting started
There should be more movies or series surrounding the mystical stories of Clive Barker. ❤
i was kinda hoping that this would be a tv series
wait this is not a tv show?
Riiiiight.... I thought it was a tv show too 😒
@@dasadd6374 The title of the video states, "A Hulu Original Film."
Me too. Would be cool if every episode was a different story.
@@PowertipBrushhead welp thats a boomer
I saw Britt, I clicked. Been a fan since Avalon high
Right people forget where she came form Avalon high with the blonde hair💀
I try to forget about that movie because they ruined it. Love the book though. Lol
Avalon high was my favorite ahhh
Me too!! Love her!! And I looooved her show The Secret Circle! Was so sad it didn’t make it past the first season.
Watching this on Hulu right now. I had to pause it and come to these comments to see if it's worth watching all the way through. There's such a plethora of perspectives and opinions until I might as well just go ahead and finish watching it.
Worth watching?
@@afrinkhan4460 It was trippie. Idk Maybe worth a watch, but not a rewatch.
@@onewapani ok got it. Thanks ☺👍
Frankly this should be a TV series in the vein of Castle Rock, with various canonical links and references to Barker’s overarching mythos, both across the episodes and with other Barker properties as well (e.g. Candyman, which was originally one of the short stories in Books of Blood)
it's frustrating that Clive Baker isn't revered enough to do this. It would be a dream come true!
Can't wait for this, really hope it lives up to the Books of Blood volumes
So glad to see Clive Barkers work getting more recognition and love nowadays.
The moment I saw Clive Barker's name, I knew this movie was going to be creepy. Clive Barker wrote/directed the scary movie Hellraiser that still scared so many people to this day.
This movie reminded me of those "Tales From The Crypt" episodes back in the late 80's to early 90's. I thoroughly enjoyed it!
Idk what’s up with the bad comments. This was a great movie
Right. It was excellent in all three story bringing them together which made it more interesting.
Really? I thought the ending was unrealistic and terrible.
@@jessygarci couldn’t tell ya what the ending was
This would’ve worked so much better as an anthology!!!!!
I think it is
The book series sure was an anthology....I remember reading them about 25 years ago.
@@karopi it's not, Hulu has even said it's a movie. Not that it matters anymore, it looks like they took out everything that made Barker's stuff standout. Now it looks like your generic jump scare.
It's an anthology film. May not feature all of the stories but I guess they can do that in a sequel if this one does well.
@@supahstrike77 thatnks i almost downloaded it🙆🏾♂️
Clive Barker is a brilliant mind & author been reading his books for years ✍️✍️❤️
Agreed
"The Books of Blood" is the best movie of 2020! Great actors with really scary scenes. I'm lovin' it!
This was absolutely phenomenal. It should be a long form open ended series, like American Horror Story.
Don't understand why people hated this movie , I actually enjoyed it.
Me either!
Same here
Swear good old days has better horror movies then today days
Okay this clip + the trailer got me. Off to Hulu to watch it… and yes it is BOOKS OF BLOOD (2020 Hulu original)
This movie is awesome, I don't care what people say.
So good! Such a great movie it was so well pieced together. And it kept me hanging. Not so predictable. Please watch! Its worth your while !
Ok! You've convinced me! 🙃
What's it about?
Hoping so much that this stays true to the original, and remains as vivid, as Barkers novel’s ‘The Books of Blood vol’s 1&2’; which I read for the first time over 25 years ago as a young teen of 13. It was the writings of Barker that set me on a lifetime horror loving journey and was my beginning in becoming a long time fan of all of his stories and novels. To do anything less than his vision would be a travesty to such horror masterpieces. My all time favorite tale from both volumes is “Jacqueline Ess: Her Will and Testament”. Hope beyond hope that they do this story and do it true to the original. Because it’s incredible. He’s long been one of my favorite authors and no one does imaginative horror like Clive Barker, or better than Clive Barker; he elevates horror writing to an art form unlike any other. He’s a genius of the written page. And I’m hoping this lives up to that genius. BUT WHY ISN’T IT AN ANTHOLOGY SHOW? It is literally based on two volumes of anthology horror!!! Why isn’t it a show?? 😩
alego 723 not necessarily. This movie is a STREAMING CHANNEL movie after all. Premium channels have done some outstanding horror/supernatural shows and some Streaming channels have done outstanding horror as of late. Hulu, Netflix and long time original horror hot spot HBO all have made outstanding horror, supernatural and Sci Fi shows. It is not the tv of old like when original Tales From The Dark Side, Tales From The Crypt and Outer Limits were on in the 80’s and 90’s and watered down the horror (even though Dark Side did The Yattering And Jack it was toned way down from the original Clive Barker story). Tv has grown in leaps and bounds since then. Streaming and premium is often better than a lot of movies now as the movies have pulled back from doing R rated horror.
try channel zero as well
I've actually had a needle stuck in my eyeball twice now. It's not half as bad as it looks.
You barely feel it, and it's the fastest way of administering anesthetic to the area.
Yikes
@Mr Jason Yeah when I had eye surgeries and they injected anesthetic into my eye, I could feel the needle going in, but it didn't really hurt at all, I noticed the cold feeling of the liquid anesthestic as it was being injected more.
I've had injections in my eyes dozens of times, diabetic retinopathy. Definitely sounds worse than it actually was. Not fun but better than going blind.
Okay so this looks really good. I just signed up for audible and am listening to the first book right now!!
I swear this woman doesn't age.
Looks groovy, I've only read two of his novels but as I understand the book of blood was a three volume set of short stories that make his name. My brother use to own them all.
What a good anthology horror movie, that was one of the better horror anthology movies I've seen in a long time.
this is what a REAL HORROR FILM LOOKS LIKE
I was pleasantly surprised. My expectations for this movie were pretty low but it got me intrigued throughout the whole move.
Is it me or are horror movies getting better as the years go by
You most be teenager or something
So this is what Lux and Bug have been up to...
I read the books as a teenager, this looks cool.
Same here. Crazy that it was the mid 1980's and now it's the 21st century. I remember that Clive Barker became an instant horror phenom when The Books of Blood were published.
Really great movie! 3 creepy stories that are slightly blended. A really enjoyable horror movie! I loved it!
This trailer isn’t giving much away to what the film is about. It’s a bit all over the place.
R Covet i think it could be ist anthology ...
thankfully
@@AnthonyVsTheWorld ah ok
@@Korradoar I know that some trailers give far too much away, and after watching them, you don't even need to watch the movie. But a trailer has to make me want to watch the film, and this one doesn't appeal.
That's the point of a trailer, if you want to know the story you watch it.
TH-cam shows me this trailer today when I saw this dream during the early morning hours today - in which on my palms I could see an ancient civilization sketch appearing from the blood inside. What would appear like a henna tattoo was actually my blood creating those drawings of the buildings, temples, and the entire landscape of an old civilization. Co-incidence?! Maybe or maybe not.
But, it sure looks like I have a certain connection with the rich culture of an ancient civilization. The headaches post the lucid dreaming makes me feel like I need another hour of sleep to feel fresh.
I love you
Man this was an amazingly horrifying brilliant series of novellas to be introduced to. Highly recommended read. Not all of them hit the same way but all of them are worth the read. Recommend a binge read over 3 days to really be in the mood. Great stuff.
Also the dude should totally be more book-of-bloody than that. Weaksauce!
Still looking forward to the series though
Agreed read all books of bloods great but scary time
Rawhead Rex? The Life of Death? Midnight Meat Train? I am so down to see these...
Midnight Meat Train is already a movie, and a decent one at that. My all-time favorite Brook Shields role.
@@michaelburke4048 Meh, it was okay. I like Cooper, but the movie was mediocre.
@@michaelburke4048 Also, Rawhead Rex was a movie, too. One of the funniest and most terribly made movies of the 80's. Definitely a "so bad it's good" movie.
1:19 my man is drinking the tea like Levi
Omg yeah 😂
Britts disorder was driving me nuts they really wanted you to see what she lived with golly.
I like Clive Barker's books and i've seen this movie about 100 times so far.Dont know why i like it so much. It's like a ritual for me almost every night.Maybe im crazy.
Not a huge fan of these type of movies but I love Britt Robertson so I will watch it.
Actually impressive there were some good scares and acting was pretty good imo
To do justice to Clive's books, this should be a series.
Anytime someone says your safe here just know that means your'e not, if you got to tell me!
Please start a Clive Barker renaissance. Please please please...
probably wasn't a great idea to watch this trailer at night
Rafi & Britt were in Life Unexpected together, as well.
someone tell them jumpscares are obsolete
These are particularly lame ones, too.
How else are you going to scare someone?
@@johnnybananaseed8382 seriously? How bout actually building suspense?
@@wolfthornnholtzklau4913 That's what I'm asking. How? People keep ripping jumpscares and talk about how they want to actually be horrified. I'm a grown man, how is the film maker going to terrify me? Genuine question.
@@johnnybananaseed8382 I feel you bro, it's all good. Lovecraftian horror and the fear of the unknown is particularly creepy for me.
As Barker said, "We're all books of blood, because when we're opened we're red."
You are safe here ..😂😂😂😂😂. Classic horror story line..safe what!!!
Why hasnt anyone made a film about 'Mister B Gone' Much rather that!
Oh wow while I am a massive Stephen King fan it's so nice to see one of the other horror masters Clive Barker is having his work adapted. I read these stories in high school 20 years ago and I hope this is just the first of many of these it should have been a series. If this is uccessful maybe Hulu will start making miniseries out if his novels.
This looks really good
I confess, I am only watching the trailer because of the hot guy.
Prepare to be disappointed. If they were true to the source material, then you would've had a scene with the actor jerking it.
JohnnyMando92 🤭
same and thank you hot guy, because this looks great
LIES! LOL
Yep! Me too! Sorry not sorry. 😂
I feel like I've watched 3 different movies at the same time.
btw i watched the whole movie. this movie is insanely good
I Really hope this is on tv in the UK
I really hope that this is good
It sure doesn't look like it's going to be.
Check out book if blood on Amazon. This movie looks like the same actors. Could it be a sequel
Clive Barker, im watching it!
I hope so too. Clive Barker is such a good writer. His stories have a dreamy quality to them. I hope this show is not just a regular scarefest based on those stories.
Its already proving to be a good scary story by not relying to jumo scares.
It's clearly "In the Hills, the Cities", there are a lot of explicit visual clues of the short story in the trailer ;)
Out of curiosity. What clues make you think this is an adaptation of that story in particular? Cause to me it bears no resemblance.
The film is made up of three stories, and one more as a connector, I think. It wouldn't be fair to consider The Book of Blood as one of the three main stories, because in books it works like glue.
If we exclude from the trailer the parts that refer to Simon in The Book of Blood, we can separate scenes from 3 different segments:
- The psychologist who sees the ghost of her dead leukemic daughter in bed (Anna Friel as Mary)
- The girl who suffers from misphonia (Britt Robertson as Jenna)
- The two men who travel by car to an inhospitable town where they have never been (Yul Vazquez as Bennett, and his partner)
The images in this third segment fit with the beginning of "In the Hills, the Cities". The devastated neighborhood we see in the trailer as they drive (and in the filming shots) seems to have been crushed by something (something huge).
On the other hand, there are two drawings in a notebook where we see a lot of people voluntarily throwing themselves off a cliff into a mass made of piled up human bodies. It's seems like a pact of sacrifice. This could be a representation of the creation process of the titans.
According to Braga's words, Bennett is a criminal who wants to steal a rare book and in his quest gets involved in something supernatural. It is clear that the book is "Simon", the book of blood, which fits the thief character of the short story (and its second half "On Jerusalem Street"). If so, the supernatural event that interrupts their quest could be the battle of the giants.
At the end of the trailer we see how "something", from the heights, looks at Bennett (alone, without his partner) in an Aerial Shot. Bennett is on the coast, so his story is related to the drawings on the cliff. This shot could match one of the last moments of the short story, which is similar.
It's just vague ideas and deductions, but it fits well, and Hulu isn't telling us everything, I guess to surprise the audience.
@@nickrock501 Sorry for my poor english :)
if only we could watch hulu in canada...
This was very good. The ending was like WOW!
Just saw it, what a dark ending. I felt nauseated
This was actually not bad!!!! worth watching:)
I see The OA has entered a new dimension. I'm here for it.
That isn't Brit Marling. She is not in this.
Shmoptimus Prime oh yikes! Thank you for the correction!
@@DannyCurley I appreciate the OA reference regardless :)
I absolutely love Britt Robertson 💕
for anyone who loved the books like i did, the movie tells new stories (that Barker himself helped to create) and the overall book of blood enclosing story is intact. in other words, only one of the 3 or 4 stories is from the actual books. kinda disappointed more of the actual books of blood aren't being adapted.
Still awesome though
How could you have one of the best horror anthologies ever and make a boring, predicable MOVIE? I'm going to scream in a pillow out of frustration. Edit: I hyped myself up for "In the Hills, The Cities" :(
That was and still is one of the most original pieces of literature I've ever read.
Great! I loved the barker short stories but unsure if I know one of these 3 stories here yet.
Midnight Meat Train was superb
I couldn't identify any story from the first volume, which is the only one I've read.
I couldn't identify any story from any of them altogether; with the exception of the 'medium' who acts as a voice for the dead, by inscribing him with their tales.
From what I’ve heard, its going to be all new stories, non of which were in Clive Barker’s Books Of Blood... They’re referring to it, as a re-imagining of Barker’s Books Of Blood.
@@emartin86 Not a bad idea, at all, though I'll miss seeing some of his more bizarre stories being interpreted for the show.
@@emartin86 Are you serious? I'm out if that's the case.
I read The Damnation Game as a teen, and was blown away. Then, as I kept on reading Clive Barker novels, they systematically became worse and worse, until I just gave up on him and wished he would go away.
I'm guessing this could go either way as well.
Here's hoping.
Clive Barker's work needs more attention and adaptations!
I was in until the eye needle lol

This seems rather light compared to the gruesome brutality of the source material.
Good movie but don’t leave the room you’ll miss something then you need to press rewind on the PVR
Interesting. Hulu is really ramping up their genre content this year between this, Helstrom and Monsterland. Still not enough to compete with the likes of Netflix, Amazon, and HBO though
