Thank you martyn. Never seen racing from blackbird road. Seems a massive stadium. Big crowd also. Leicester unfortunately did not get over the line. Ole Olsen always seemed a brilliant captain a real team man. Did you ever visit Leicester as do remember used to host British semi finals. Think my favourite simmo won there in 1976 then the British championship in that year. Like I said to you before simmo was so kind to my late dad at Wimbledon. Such a classy rider personally think underrated from the back. Rip simmo.
What I love about these old 70s league matches is that you can hear the atmosphere of the crowd especially vociferous before a race starts. That and the great Dave Lanning's commentary!
Absolutely Brilliant to see the Great John Boulger...What a Magnificent Rider he was. I live in Adelaide and sometimes stop by his house to say hello. He is a Really Nice Guy and he is Fit and Well I am Glad to say :)
Unfortunately I'm not old enough to remember JB as a solo rider, but I certainly remember him driving Mark Gilbert's speedcar at Speedway Park in the late 80s and early 90s. IIRC he won the Harry Neale Memorial at SP in 1987.
These are brilliant. I went to Brandon weekly from about 71 to 76 as a kid before we moved to Australia. Your channel is brilliant - been poking about all afternoon!
Regular at Blackbird road up until 1976 my last meeting was the one where Ray Wilson had his last ride for Leicester. Also occasionaly joined other members of my family at Brandon where they were regulars so many of the riders shown here I have memmories of, great to see them all again. Titman,Boulger, Terroma all great riders
*Had a go on one in '63 at Long Eaton along with Norman Hunter, Johnnie Boulger and Anders Michanek, didn't suit me and went on to Trials and Road Racing !*
Decent meeting. I suspect Leicester may have won if the rain hadn't come, but Coventry's controlled aggression on a slick track deservedly got them the points.
Great meeting but ultimately one which Leicester threw away as the rain came. All those last places and a non competitive no.7. didn't help. Poor showing for a home rider. Coventry made the gates on a damp track when it counted. Having Olsen as a No.1 really helped of course!

Thanks David, my pleasure.

I remember Mitch Shirra at the country tracks in Australia when he was only about 13 or 14. His old man was a character as well

The bees HAD a great stadium at brandon R.I.P..... but i loved going to blackbird Rd... spent many hours on those concrete steps..
Good post. those were the days.
Maybe but just cant help feeling that the quality of the riding has improved no end...Especially the Grand Prixs
Nice memories. Pity the camera was only following the lead rider. Don't suppose there is any footage remaining from the Leicester Hunters days ?
No unfortunately, sorry
The ride so fast back then and that back straight was zoolog bumby

Great action but didn’t know who riders were no names or team line ups mentioned
Blimey, there’s no pleasing some people. 🙄
Was this black burn road
Blackbird Road
*Blackbird Road, but actually on Parker Drive, Leicester. Knocked down and now Housing Estate.*
Thought John was more of a leg man 🤣
