Urban Sketchers Toronto Symposium Weekend 2023

The Toronto chapter of Urban Sketchers, a global community of sketchers dedicated to the practice of on-location drawing, celebrated their 10th year by holding workshops. The 10x10 symposium met at St. Lawrence Market and fanned out from there through Old Town Toronto. Many of the workshops by 10 members over the two days were held in St. James' Park near the cathedral. It looked like it was going to be a very wet weekend but that didn't transpire (except right at the beginning of the first workshops on Saturday).
The volunteers did an amazing job organizing the event and arranging for sponsorship from the big brands leading to a magnificent swag bag of goodies (worth the registration price alone!). And we had two independent art retailers, Articulations and Gwartzman's, on Market Street for anything extra you "needed."
I took Kyra Crilly's Outside the Lines: Learn to Create Flowing and Energetic Urban Sketches and Marek Badzynski's Urban Scenes Using Ink and Watercolours.

Anyone can join, you don't have to be a member but membership costs nothing. Registration was open to everyone and really was worth the money. It takes a lot of work so I think they would love to do another one next year and make it an annual thing but I'm not sure. If you are in Toronto just sign up to the facebook page or instagram so you don't miss any announcements or join your local chapter. There are meetups where we just sketch together throughout the year, though, and that's always nice too.
