    Harry, just wanted to say thank you for posting this video. I came across a bunch of tutorials, all of them overly complicated. This one was by far the simplest and most effective and I'm pleased to say I managed to make my own wort chiller yesterday based on this video.
    Thanks again, and happy brewing.

    Thanks! Great video! One piece of advice, bend both ends up and put water in the copper tube and freeze it over night. With it being frozen, it will bend easy without actually crimping the copper tube.

    Best technique and functionality of all the DIY videos that I've seen. I'm going to try 50' of 3/8 tubing and hopefully with no kinks. I will add a clamp to the ends.

    Thanks for making this video. I just completed my own chiller using your patented 'old paint bucket' technique. Worked like a charm!

    Dang, Hanworth Homebrew barely beat me to having the first comment on the best wort chiller build video on the youtubes! Our Chris is all grown up now, hey Darren.

    Thanks for the video - great. Not only is the copper more flexible than Stainless Steel, as you say, but it is also 100x more conductive than S/S ...so that's one hundred times the cooling effect!

    Awesome video. Building one tonight. Paid about half the cost of a complete chiller for the supplies. More fun too.

    Spot on there Harry. Was debating whether I should buy one or make one, and as others have said already... some of the videos I came across before yours were just overly complicated or not well enough explained.
    My mind is set... I'll be making one this week. Cheers.

    Nice one. I'm about to make another chiller to put in line in an ice bath prior to the chiller in the wort for use for the summer months.

    Loving the videos Harrybrew, I'm new to home brewing and your videos are very simple and informative, I'll definitely be giving the wort chiller a try.
    Keep up the good work 👍

    do you think it would be worth it to stretch it out a bit, and have the coils spaced by 1-2 cm and go all the way to the top of the brewpot? great video

    This is by far the best wort chiller making video I've seen. Are you plumber or something? You could be a professional wort chiller maker! Very nice!

    I just picked up 20ft of 3/8 OD copper pipe at home depot for $19 USD. I used a 32oz growler instead of a paint bucket. I attached 5 ft of clear vinyl tubing to each end. Haven't used it yet but I bet it will work great! No more ice baths.

    For future use, a lot of it is general plumbing stuff. A plumber, plumber's supply store, or general hardwore store is your best bet. Or the internet, that usually works.

    Hey Harry. I'm just about to do a few extract brews and then onto all grain. I'm taking the diy approach to save a few pennies. Wort chiller is the first project. i have 10m x 10mm copper pipe, so just need the hose and hoselock gubbins. Where's the best place to pick these up cheaply? cheers

    Nice work. But I'm wondering, with the copper rubbing against each other will that not slow heat cooling down? If it were my design, I would have the tube 5 to 10 millimeters apart. Mind you, that design could be implemented because you have plenty of room to stretch the pipe. And why have the water hose connections added. Why not have conectores fitted to the copper. I really like the end shape of your copper though, nice and round.

    A little hint when using pliers to help bend the copper. Wrap them up in electrical tape first. Stops them marring the surface.

      hose clamps in the U.K too, Jubilee is just a brand of hose clamps, most people i know still call them Jubileess too regardless of brand, myself included i must admit haha, same scenario for Unibond (p.v.a)

    Without spacing between each turn of the coil you aren't going to get the cooling you're looking for. Have about a half inch in between each turn of the coil.

    • @harrybrew69
      @harrybrew69  10 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I disagree. It works just fine. It you have space between the coils the chiller becomes unwieldy and looks a mess. Last thing you want is a copper slinkey flopping around during brew day. I now recirculate the wort around the chiller and It cools even quicker.

    • @davidsuransky2278
      @davidsuransky2278 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      HarryBrew69 you mean wort is inside the tube and cold water outside ? seems more economic to me

    Several minutes of strenuous wrestling? Laughed so hard when you said that. How much swearing went on when the copper would not behave?

  • @FangBlah
    @FangBlah 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    If you fill the tube with water and freeze it, you wont get any kinks.

    • @FangBlah
      @FangBlah 11 ปีที่แล้ว

      ***** Yup, I have made 2 wort chillers that way with some pretty tight bends and got no kink or leaks. Another way is to fill your copper tube with sand, but that just sounds like a pain. Just make sure you don't plug the ends if you use the ice method.

    For all you yanks: 10 meters = ~30 feet; 10mm = 3/8 inch; 450mm = 17 inches.
    Jubilee clips = hose clamps.
    And 20 British Pounds is what? About $40?
