I used one strip of skateboard grip tape on each

I'm wondering how tiptons' customer service is. It's not a big issue, i think with some hockey grip tape or some sort of tape and it's a simple fix.

"They needed a little more engineering in these towers." Well said. I have the same vice and feel the same way. The only modification I've made is I removed the mold lines on the towers and scratched up really good with 60 grit. Since it's GF tool grade plastic I expect it to work for a while since I don't move the towers often. At the end of the day I'm quite happy with the vice, but that might be a product of my use case, I only use it to mount scopes and clean. It's really not built for doing gunsmithing work in my opinion. Thanks for another great video!

I would have done 60 grit on the towers... 180 was the roughest sand paper I had😉 You are absolutely right, It is not a gunsmith vise (other than scope mounting), it is a cleaning vise which is why I think AOB put it under the Tipton line of products instead of Wheeler. It is a good "light duty" product that I think with a little more engineering, could have been a "medium duty" product. It is great for what it is but it fell just short of "excellent" in its class.

I have this, bought it only a few months ago so it’s seen minimal use to date - no problems yet but appreciate the video and your content and delivery. Subscribed.

Have this same vise on order. I’ll make your modifications on mine as soon as it arrives. Thanks for the informative video.

Thanks for the update video. I'm surprised those plastic threads on those knobs haven't worn down in the year. But I think I will invest in something rated for gunsmithing work since those should also work for cleaning and scope mounting.

I watched a different video comparing the Tipton Ultra Vise to the Fire Teck gun vice. I bought the Fire Teck - the design is way better all around and it can’t even have the problems you’re describing in normal use. It’s superior in every way that I can see.

I just purchased this vice on eBay. Wished that I found your video first. All the ones that I found on the vice were positive. Money cannot buy quality products now days.

Has this vise ever been updated to correct the problems?

I still can't justify to myself, spending so much money for so much plastic. It feels like I'd be buying something for my kid to play with.

What about if you glue a thin rubber pad to them?

I don’t know if it’s just me, but the Tipton line of products seem fairly flimsy or not real sturdy. I don’t have this one , I have the ultimate gun vise I think? You may have found a good fix for now as it looks sturdy with the dip on it. Hopefully engineering will have another look at the design. Or maybe they should be sending prototypes out to professionals opinions first. 🤔 thanks Jason. I think you’re a dad so, happy Father’s Day..

Mark, you probably have the "Best" they had problems that the "Ultra" fixed. The Ultra is WAY better than it's predecessors. But with that said, it still needed a little more work. Happy Fathers day to you. Thanks for stopping by!

I'll bet you had one side tightened more than the other side and the gun dropped.

I DON'T HAVE the room in the house to have a work bench, or the funds to buy anything like that. I want to work on my ARs changing out barrels (maybe) torque applied to specs. I can see these things snapping off. I think I should of saved my money. Hitting on the lotto would help since anything to do with firearms is so DAM expensive!
