How Much I Spend In A Month in Canada

  • The amount spent each month varies and your situation will determine your expenses but the fact remains that Canada is expensive.
You might be a student in university or worker or something but you can still relate to the monthly expenditures.

I paid $950 per month for a two bedroom, two story house that was built in 2004. This was in Arizona.
In Toronto, I paid $1500 for a SMALL one bedroom apartment plus utilities.
Car insurance in Arizona was $88 for full coverage. (I was a cop there, so my driving record was excellent.
    In Toronto, car insurance $150+.
Food costs way more, as taxes are higher.
I found that job opportunities are more frequent in the US VS Canada. The biggest difference in that regard, is most jobs in the US will hire you and train you. Most jobs in Canada require you to obtain certain certifications at your own cost before you even apply for the actual job.

    1. Cut back on the eating out and find ways to socialize which don't involve spending money.
    2. Get a Compass Card and use the skytrain and buses. This will save you money.
    3. Ditch the gym membership. Get some weights and an exercise mat or a used treadmill if you have the space for it.
Just doing these things will free up money for other things. I live in BC in case you were wondering.

Where do you live/go to school? Our montly fuel bill is around $450 to $500 a month and that is just for my husband to get back and forth to work and weekly grocery trips. We can't afford to go on trips anywhere that will use up our gas. Our vehicle insurance is $108 p/m Our rent for our 2 bedroom apartment is $1095 a month and about to go up to $1150 p/m since our lease is up for renewal. We don't pay natural gas but our electric is around $165 p/m Then cable/home phone/internet is $265 p/m Groceries here are every expensive and cost us a minimum of $1000 per month So total we spend on basic living and food is just over $3000 p/m Up until a year ago those expenses were a lot higher our rent was $1650 p/m for a 3 bedroom house plus we had natural gas on top of that which included the carbon tax which came to around $200 p/m We lived in one of the cheaper houses most of them here cost well over $2000 per month to rent.

How many hours a week you owe to work to pay your bills? And how many hours takes your education? It is interesting to compare how is it working in different countries.
I bet the ordinary people like you and I should struggle with the same problems no matter what country you live in. But countries like Canada or USA have more opportunity to build your welthy life, may be not inside that countires, but in other cheaper places of the world.
What I mean is that you might earn money in wealthy countries and then spend them in countires with lower income. And in that case you would live like an upper middle class there.

Who feels it knows it🙄 Not everyone can roommate some people are disgusting and as for gym you can partner up on Facebook with other groups in bc like here in Toronto and exercise together. As for those person who said cut the gym 🙄that’s for you not VCity staying motivated with work & school plus gym not easy so you need others with same mission like yours to train with he can try to cut but join a group. Doing it alone by yourself you may slack off because with work and school plus a new environment it’s not easy 🤷🏾‍♀️but when you have others around it helps👍🏾Canada is lonely so getting to meet new people will help🤷🏾‍♀️those are my suggestions well at least you don’t have the horrible snow to deal with that much because car wash money 💰😏. We always wants to hear the great news about migration well welcome to life it’s not all roses 🌹 and it does comes with thorns😏. I appreciate that Canada as allow me to be here but every province rules and regulations are different and students are allowed certain hours to work so trying to make 2000 kind of hard. Keep posting the true VCity someone got to be waken🤷🏾‍♀️ this is the reality of life in Canada👍🏾😁 then after you finish college you have to get a job in the area you study or you might not be allowed to stay here🤷🏾‍♀️🤷🏾‍♀️wake up people

In my opinion. From living in Nigeria i believe i am armed to live well in any economy. You probably should come back to know how to minimise cost and still get the job done. Decide why you're doing things before doing them. For example your gym membership. If you want to build muscle and be all mesomorphic, i think a 3 month membership should do. After that get weights at home and some bars to keep it up. If its general fitness and conditioning then you can do all of that at home too. You're not doing bad to me and I'm sure this video is not you complaining about your expenses. You live in a big city anyway and like in all countries the bigger the city the more the expense. Everyone has his life to live. If you're happy with your expenses then no problem. From what you say a part time job of $2k covers it all. So in the end canada gives you that ability to make more than you spend monthly. This is not the case in all countries

I’m a little confused. I live in BC, and have gone to one college and one university in the province. A gym pass was actually included in tuition, as was a bus pass. For the university, a swim pass was included too. And $200 a month on gas?! Where are you driving, and do you have a gas guzzler? I have a Toyota, I pay $60/month for gas. Maybe you have a long commute to school?
That being said, it is expensive to live here (your rent is actually decent for the region, for having no roommates).
Health insurance in BC is a maximum of $37/month currently, although it was $75 last year. If you are a Canadian resident then the premium is adjusted for your income, and if you make less that $26,000/ year you pay zero. Extended heath is included in your tuition as well, to cover most of the price of prescriptions and whatnot. This is pretty cheap compared to the US.

You pay for healthcare cause one day, you will need Doctor's and you don't want to pay or worry about bills that you could never afford. As it is, you can walk into any Healthcare center and know you'd receive live saving treatment anywhere in Canada. But you can't forget that Toronto and Vancouver it's very expensive to live in the cities.. Outside of Toronto you can rent a room cheaper.. Out past Barrie, we 3 were each paying $500 a month for our apartment and utilities shared..

@@VCityglobal Yeah, just don't ever forget how bad it can be. I'm gonna tell you a sad story I hope you read and understand why. A black guy came to our area of mostly whites, (My mom's family is black, we're half the only colored family in our area for like ever), I befriended him as did many others.. Later, he was murdered by the idiots I introduced him too.. Now the papers will say it was over drugs but the truth is he was murdered for dating a white girl, and her brother's friend liked her, and they didn't like that she was with a black man.
Yes, he dealt drugs, but so does every other white guy in that area and he wasn't violent, he wasn't a pusher, and did it to help his single mother with 5 kids after his dad bailed on them, they moved to our area.
      www.yorkregion.com/news-story/1441836-4-plead-guilty-in-brutal-slaying-of-georgina-man/
His murder was an unsanctioned hit, a racial attack and the powers that be made sure that everyone who was part of murder, even those who had knowledge of it was put under, and they made their own leader take the fall for it all..

Thanks for your video. You told the gospel truth. Canada is so damn expensive overall, you work many hours, money easily goes back to servicing bills whaoooo.... Calgary is somehow cheaper depending on your living standards. You need to cut down on cost substantially, rent and other stuff. If not, you will slave hard & not see any balance at month end.i look forward to a time Nigeria will be developed so that we can return home & set up properly. This country is a scam. Life isn’t necessarily better in Canada, its just like a spinning wheel keeping you in moderation.

Except you're a Doctor or a physio (like me) or some professions that are relatively easy to find a job. The last time i checked i still got no job. Very salient points. There are some memberships I can do without though as you mentioned.
But if you are someone who can manage mony efficiently you can save money.
    1) Get enough home and continental ingredients when in your country or have family buy and send it for you.
    2) Home cooked meals and eat out when you dont have to cook. (you have no idea how much you save)
    3) Wonder if discount stores like Lidl and Aldi are in Canada though not bothered to check.
    4) Share an apartment if you cannot afford one.
    5) Transport, carpooling, the gym and entertainment are important (to me though).
Most importantly....DONT KEEP UP WITH THE JONSES.
    Signed; Just a normal Nigerian.
