    Glad to see a shallow spool reel for the US market. Using mono backing then braid always creates problems with the knot snagging and it's just silly filling a deep spool with pricey braid.

    • @rawrfishing
      @rawrfishing  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      For sure! U would have to under fill it with backing to prevent that but now you are still spooling too much main line on which means a waste of money. More shallow spools spinning reels to come!

    • @billhayes5581

      Why these reels have the line capacity they do now is crazy, what purpose would 275 yards of 6 pound mono serve, the old Mitchell's used to have spool reducers to save line. They gotta be in kahoots with the line companies.

      Gonna get a few shallow spool spinning reels this season. I probably would do a cast test once.... spinning reels probably don't need any cast testing lol. Just gotta fish it and test the drag and see if it handle line well.

    Hey there raWr! I haven't commented in a while but just wanted to let you know that you have got me completely hooked on Kastking reels.. Centron 500 (blue), Valiant Eagle 2000 (green), MegaJaws (red) and arriving in the mail tomorrow is the reel that you are describing here in great clinical detail!! Love it. I'll be pairing it with a Cadence cr5-30. It's a 5'6" two piece with a cork handle. Ha, don't scoff at a two piece because it easily breaks down so that you can hide it in your trunk if you wanna skip work without anyone knowing;).. Just be sure to sneak it in there the night before. Great vid Brother

  • @zihotki
    @zihotki 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Looking at the schematics of the Kastking reel, especially missing "x-ship" (support bearing for pinion) and quality of gears in general, I don't see any reason for buying it if you can find Daiwa Regal LT. It's about 10 dollars more but you get digigear, x-ship, and many more. The only downside is lack of shallow spool. I still haven't found any reel from China that can beat Regal LT for the same or similar price.

    • @rawrfishing
      @rawrfishing  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Was looking at that reel before it was sold out at this one place. It was that before choosing this one at the time since I saw a deal. Does that xship make a difference?

    • @zihotki
      @zihotki 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@rawrfishing When you get a brand new - no, you can't notice much difference. But the one with it is a bit more durable because it gives more stability for the shaft and the gear. So at the end, after a year or two of use the reel without x-ship will have more backlash and more wear in the gear (when fished under the same conditions). And of course it depends on the load - size of fish, weight of lure, type of lure (jigging/twitching).
      Anecdotal example - I had one 4000 size reel which didn't have one, I accidently bought it from some local brand. I used it for feeder fishing where you throw about 50-70g (1.7-2.7 ounce) total quite a lot - once per few mins average. After a season of not very active fishing (15-20 times) backlash was insane and sometimes the gears didn't even spin. Went directly to garbage. In paralel I was using 1 year old Shimano Sahara (it also has x-ship) of same 4000 size - it is still in perfect condition even 3 years later, so it's 4 years old this season.
