Hi Carl I just bought a 2003 100 year anniversary, the previous owner kept it on trickle charge. Now I know why, I have my bike parked outside at night it gets a little cold and also I do not start it every day. Just ordered the HD battery Tender. Thank you very much of your video. I still have a great deal to learn.
Thank you, I've looked at so many videos about these battery tenders hooking up to the plug that's already installed on the bike. I understood your video the best out of all of them! thanks 🎉 I get it now. 😅
Good video. I have the same pigtail harness from Harley connected to my 2017 Heritage. I’m going to try this charger with it. That’s a nice looking sportster you have there. Ride safe
Thanks I have been pretty much plugging min in all the time since October. I am going to try and ride a bit when I can over the winter if there’s no snow and the temps are above freezing!!! Thanks for watching hopefully you enjoyed some of my other videos also.
Thanks Carl went to my Harley Shop today and got one // took the bike out yesterday and it was great. Friend came over today and the thing would not start.
Great video! 👍🏼 I will need to buy one of these for my H-D Softail. 🦅🏍🇺🇸 I love the way you explain instructions thoroughly and get straight to the point! Great job. 👏🏼
It is a great investment. Nothing better than going to sneak out if the weather is good during the winter and your bike starts right up!!! Thanks for watching and the kind words. Ride Safe my Friend
I am using a Harley battery tender for the first time. Thanks for the video, it answered my question about the flashing green light, which my battery tender was doing. My Sportster 48 does that slight hesitation when started, I thought the battery was low, but I wonder if the hesitation was par for the course.
The stock batteries are horrible. I put a antigravity restart lithium ion battery in my bike. It is unstoppable highly recommend it. I have a video about it on my channel. Thanks for watching and commenting have a Happy New Year!!!
@@MotorcyclingwithCarl Thanks for the response and more valuable info on batteries. My battery tender is over 2 1/2 years old and I finally had access to an outlet to plug it into and use it. The battery tender works great. Also, good to know about the antigravity restart lithium ion battery. My stock battery was installed new only last April and two days after I ride my Sportster 48, the engine goes through a pause or hesitation when I try to start it. That lith battery sounds like the way to go. I'd hate to be left stranded somewhere. Glad I found this video. Happy New Year to you!
I went my local Harley shop and spoke to the parts manager to make sure that i had the correct battery charger/tender/trickle charger for my new 2022 Sportster S.
Thank you so much for sharing this tutorial, I’ve just purchased a 1200 Iron & had to buy a charger online. Waiting for it to arrive this week hopefully. Our boarders in Australia have closed between certain states & postal services are strained. I’m just not sure which type of battery I have so I’ll have to go under the seat to find out. I’ll be sure to watch it again before using it 🙂
Yeah the parts in the US are slow to arrive also. More than likely its a lead acid battery. But you should check anyway! Hopefully you enjoyed my video and it helped Ride Safe!
Yes if you’re bike didn’t come with the connector installed from the factory. If it was me I would attach the permanent connection. Especially if you are leaving it unattended for 22weeks.
It should already have a connector installed I believe it is usually hanging somewhere on the left side of the bike. I know my 2019 iron1200 had it from the factory. Its a 2 pin connector when you take the dust cap off it has a male and a female pin. Let me know if you find it
@@MotorcyclingwithCarl I’m doin the set up Monday so I’ll tell u then, but do I still gotta connect the red and black or just that factory made connector only?
@@Nomessiah you just have to plug in the factory connector to the charger then plug it into the wall you won’t need the alligator clips or the permanent connector that comes with the charger.
I believe you should have a trickle charge cable hanging on the left side of your bike. This charger should plug right in. Unfortunately I am not able to get the model number to you until tomorrow afternoon. But I will try to add a reply tomorrow with the model #
Dr MitoFit All I can say is I bought it through Harley Davidson and It says Harley genuine accessories and im not familiar with the brand Deltran so I cannot give you a positive answer. What I can say is that it does its job perfectly and Harley is awesome for pre installing the connection for it!!!!!
Last year i bought new battery for my softail 2011, only one year and my batrry ded agean, i have not the charger, my qustion is u thing because i don't have charger? 😭
Good informative video. Question - is this a Smart charger. If theres an electric power outage and then the electric power gets restored does the battery tender automaticcally go back to working as it did in its last setting?
@@MotorcyclingwithCarl Hi Carl - The battery tender just arrived. Its the same one you have. It works but there is one thing i noticed. When the battery is fully charged i get 2 solid green lights and thats correct showing 100% battery charge. Now, if i disconnect the tender either from the pigtail or power plug, wait 10 seconds and plug it back in i get the amber light that stays on for at least 45 mins then it goes to blinking green then steady green. The battery and bike is brand new. The battery isn't losing juice and the battery voltage is correct. I tested the battery with two multi-meters with and without a load and upon cranking and its fine. I even let the battery sit with no tender connected to it for 24hrs and the battery is good showing fully charged. Im not sure why the tender stays on amber so long when the battery is 100% charged.

rodolfo sabater thanks for pointing that out I will have to look into a locking cap. I don’t leave my bike out of my sight to much but It only takes a minute.

Hi, I have a 2022 Harley XL883N Iron 883. I was wondering about the battery, I don't know if my bike has a lead acid or lithium battery and how can you tell between the two. Would you know anything about the 2022 bikes. I just purchased a battery tender from the Harley dealership and I want to make sure I choose the right setup for my tender.
If its a stock battery its probably lead acid but it should say on the battery itself also led acid batteries are very heavy compared to lithium. I think the 22 iron is very similar to my bike a few minor differences but mostly the power 1200 vs 883. Enjoy the bike
@@MotorcyclingwithCarl K thanks, I appreciate it. Yep, I love my bike. I love the classic Harley look of these bikes. Just the right amount of power for me. It's a keeper.
