Richard Sterban of the Oakridge Boys comes to Sycuan

- They are celebrating 40 years since their hit song "Elvira,” which is just one of their chart-topping hits. The Oakridge Boys have been making music together for decades and this Sunday, the country music Hall of Fame inductees are bringing their show live to Sycuan and iconic bass singer Richard Sterban joined the FOUR with details.

I moved to Nashville in 1986 and for about four years always enjoyed driving by Elvira St. just because it reminded me of the Oak Ridge Boys' song. I lived in East Nashville near the Auto Diesel College so I drove past Elvira innumerable times. Until today, though, I never knew that this street was the inspiration for the song!

I love Richards bass. Sadly he’s starting to sound a little tired. I hope they all can keep singing as long as they continue with good health.
For almost 80 though, he seems to be doing pretty good.
None of them are what they used to be, but I have to hand it to Richard. The song that he likes the best is one that among their catalog, is one that features him the least. He could have said Dream On, but he is way too humble for that. Nothing but respect. I have seen the whole group in Myrtle Beach at the Alabama Theatre last year and then again this year, with another bass singer standing in for him in Henderson NC. Aaron McCune did a wonderful job filling in for Richard.
It was exciting alright. He was dating my Sister at the time. Remember Richard?
I know this is a feel-good story but I'd feel even better if the old guy would get a haircut.
For years I have thought that-it's a shame, as he was so dapper for so long.
