Are you kidding? Country cabin project, I love it, I can't get enough of it. More please, this is just another thing I enjoy about this channel. You're living the dream, please share it with us.
If you don't mind a suggestion or two? I would make the first room next to the kitchen the bath room. Here is my reasoning: You will find when plumbing the kitchen, you will save a lot of money, time and having to crawl under the cabin running pipes all of the way to the far end of the cabin. Also when you come in from a trip or from working on the outside of the property and need to wash up, the bathroom is right by the entrance. You're not tracking dirt through the house. If you make the two other bedrooms your bedroom, you'll have more windows side and back to enjoy your property and get natural light.
How about a rearrange change the layout to one side as the bedroom and bathroom and then there's a large rectangle for kitchen and living area not a L shaped kitchen and living area. With the added benefit of the bedroom looking out to the water. Hope I am making sense there.
Hi Tom. Just to be clear, the layout as I described it has the kitchen and the bathroom side by side, but on the opposite corner of the entranceway. The room nearest to the entrance is not big enough for a bathroom and shower. Rather than completely gut it, I'm trying to do the minimal of changes, both due to my budget and the time limitations. Thanks! SP
I was just going to ask why the nice corner room (nice light from two windows) couldn't become the bedroom, together with middle room, but here's the answer!
2 ปีที่แล้ว +37
As an Architect I would put the bathroom (especially the toilet) near the entrance - then you can access it from the outside without messing up all the other rooms. BTW it will be a nice cabin!
I have an easy solution: Slippers by the door! That first room is far too small for a bathroom/shower, and too far away from the proposed kitchen plumbing. Thanks! SP
Slim, I watch this for you and your personality. Your dry wit, your humor. The camping and everything is just a part of it. You want to build a cabin I'm here watching with you. If I lived closer to you Id come on and help you. You seem like a pretty good guy to me.
I love that little cabin! Instead of the center room being the bedroom though, I’d put the bedroom in the corner with the two windows (better views & more light). The “first bedroom” I’d resize the room and reuse the door to make an entry closet. That leaves the middle room as an “L” shape for a bathroom. Plenty of room for a toilet, vanity and standing shower stall. Having the stove right outside the bathroom would also help keep the plumbing from freezing.
I am so glad your back at the cabin, I've been waiting all winter to see the place again. It's going to be an exciting summer watching the progress you make. I wish I could help.Thank you for sharing,
Its definitely a fixer upper. The new sliding doors and window have already given us a insight into how it's going to unfold. You have a diamond in the rough Slim. Enjoy the renovations. Thanks for the update 😀 👍
Great to see you are back at your cabin and starting on the remodeling. I can't wait to see the transformation into a sweet cabin in the woods and fire in the stove.
Agreed... a dream in progress. The most important part is the location... that's priceless. I can just picture Slim sitting by his cozy wood stove on a rainy day, ... or sitting out on the porch with a Cool One. I'm sure he'll have no regrets... and ALWAYS have a project to keep him.. and ourselves, entertained. 😊
I love the cabin updates! Cracking up at the "Who's on the throne?" sign. Can't throw that out! ☺Hilarious! That cabin is going to be so wonderful when you are done with it. What an amazing place to spend your time when you aren't out on adventures! Looking forward to the next video to see the progress! Good job, SP!
Camping or remodeling a cabin makes no difference. Your commentaries and reflections are a big part of your channel! Your ability to repair things and make things are very interesting! Excited to see you make the cabin yours.
I don’t want action and jump scares which is why I like your channel. Gentle and interesting will do for me. Can’t wait to eventually see the warm cosy stove lit up. Great video Slim, thank you for sharing ♥️👍
Oh Slim, that “scary” attic scene only lacked one thing: a bat (on a string of course). Such a beautiful piece of property. I’m so looking forward to the next phase! Stay busy.
Two suggestions: Magnet rake for those nails on the ground. Check with your insurance company about that old wood stove, they may insist on a CSA rated model (if I had my druthers I would go with a low smoke recirculating type $$). Advice: try not to keep too much of the “it’s still good, I might be able to use that later” stuff. Awesome progress Slim, please keep us updated!
I second the suggestion for upgrading the wood stove... one for safety sake, and two.. for efficiency. We ended up getting a Jyotal stove... not cheap but WELL worth it in the long run. It has a lovely glass front so we can view the fire.. plus it lights up the room... very romantic 😉
Slim, your "special effects" remind me so much of the home movies my dad would make when I was young. This is one of the reasons I look forward to them. Please keep 'em coming!
I enjoyed the "scary/horror" scenes. They were creative and added humor to this video. Love seeing what you are doing with your cabin and look forward to many more updates.
Looking good, Slim! It's kind of scary leaving everything behind. We leave our house, which is basically a cabin in the woods, for months at a time and never know what we will find when we return. Thankfully, we have never had an issue after 15 year of being here. Apart from a few mice and once or twice a smelly packrat, it stays pretty much as it was when we left it. Looking forward to seeing that deck come together and you enjoying a cold one on it. My deck is my favourite part of our cabin, but no sea view for me...we live in the mountains of BC.
Good morning Slim from Nevada. Glad to see you made it back safe and sound. The cabin looks to be in good shape. I'm happy to hear you're removing the ceiling, that will make it feel larger. I also like the bathroom idea, can't wait to see how that window looks when you get it up. You have your work cut out for you, best get started. Take care and see ya soon.
Really happy you are back at the cabin and found all to be in good order. No drama and suspense needed. There is way to much of that in the rest of the world!
I was not one bit bored!! It reminds me of the many home remodels from my childhood and young adult life! I hope we get to see your progress. What a wonderful, beautiful place! You have a treasure there!
The cabin held up good with the winter weather . Looks like no leaks and no furry creatures . That is a major win . You have to love the view . Enjoy !
I don’t believe you aren’t looking forward to the work. I doubt you ever sit still. You’ll love being creative with this house. I can’t imagine all the weird things you’ll put to a very creative use. You are the master of re-using materials.
Good Morning Slim, New Hampshire here. Coffee going getting ready for work. Glad your back at the cabin. Lots to do I see. Hey in the good side no generator sound. Lol
I did not know that you had cabine updates in the past. Together with your caravan renovation videos, they are my favourite ones. Please, make more of these!
Not boring AT ALL! I’ve been waiting for cabin work days. You’ve already made big improvemens. It’ll be such a fun project for us to watch. Thanks for sharing.
I am so glad you're filming the work on your cabin. I can't wait for all the things you have in mind to fix her up. All your filming is enjoyable to watch. Will you be putting content out a couple times a week? haha
Love the update - you will have added a whole new audience. Please continue with the cabin updates I also have an off grid cabin I'm renovating and find this fascinating. I've been watching your channel for a long time but the cabin is now my favorite part of your channel. Thank you for all of the entertainment.
The cabin looks great Slim. I can see past the “development” stage already. The view will be worth every ounce of hard work you put into it. Stay well and if you do “find time” to go camping, safe travels.
We have a similar cabin about the same size I built from odds & ends in north Alabama. During your visit to Alabama, you were about seventy miles away. We call the place The Thicket Encampment. Every visit to your project makes me want to get back to work on our place. Thanks for sharing the videos of your cabin.
Hey! Good morning Slim! Personally I love your cabin, it has tons of potential. And the location, well as they say that to me is something that is very important and beautiful. Location, location, location!!! I am very much looking for ward to your future videos and I absolutely wish you all the very best! 👍
I love the cabin update. No drama or sensationalism needed. All of that BS makes me not want to watch, honestly. Look forward to seeing more of the cabin and what you create. I have my own piece of land with a few tiny homes on it and I'm thinking to build a little three story treehouse as I'm up in the forest, so I love seeing all the construction creativity.😊👍
Great video! Oh the drama. When that wicker fell on your head I screamed! Seriously, Good luck with your endeavors. When you’re finished, maybe you could build one for me? Haha!
I would build a deck first too. Then enjoy the summer on the deck, use your camper for living quarters. Then probably a bathroom. I'd consider leaving the rest of the cabin just one room. Some type of kitchenette against the side wall of the bathroom, the rest of living room with some type of sleeper sofa.
At the time of this posting I noticed 4 comments regarding magnets. Brian from AdventureVanMan actually uses a magnetic tool bar with twine or paracord to draw it across places where pallets may have been burned. Harbor Freight has an 18" one for about $5 US. If the Par
Looks like a great project for the next few seasons. Just a thought. If you had the bathroom next to the entrance door, you can slip in and out without taking off your boots.
Great video Slim...Everything held up great...excited to see the progress over the summer and you getting to enjoy one of your beers on your deck! Take care
You are funny! I never found you a dull person ever, only fascinated with the places you let me see through your eyes. Looking forward to seeing the deck when it's done. A beautiful view awaits for us. Yep us. Yours for rest/relaxation, ours when shared with us.😊
Loved the update! Looking forward to the deck being done. Good thing you bought the wood before the prices went up like they have. The dart board sequence was great editing!
Nothing boring about your cabin and the renovation you’re doing. I love it! Looking forward to this journey of yours that you’ll be sharing with us. 👏❤️
I loved this episode. Walking us through the outside and then into the cabin was perfect. Reminded me of where you had left off before you went south. I'm keen to see how it all comes together. Thank you for sharing with us.
Probably seeing Alan Whicker up in the roof would have been an even bigger shock! The cabin is going to be a cool place to spend time. Lovely location!
Love the wood stove. I'd take wall out between both end rooms put in another sliding door to deck. Then you could lie in bed and wake up to the water view. Put bathroom at driveway side or the small room when you walk in house. Then when you have guests they don't have to go in your bedroom to go. Out side looks so good you move on projects fast. I enjoy your humor and channel
Thanks for bringing us up-to-date on your cabin do-ings. I enjoy these episodes as much as your traveling ones. You've done an incredible job on the cabin so far....one suggestion for the exterior: install a flagstone pathway between the retaining wall and the cabin.

Oh course we enjoyed that video Slim! And you spiced it up just at the right time when looking at the attic. 😆 I am looking forward to your summer renovations. All the best to you from Quebec!

Reading others comments, we are not alone and love others suggestions on the cabin! Thanks for sharing! BTW..always impressed with your expertise in camera shots and editing of these videos!
Love your idea of opening up the ceilings! But, I'd make the tiny room the bathroom and keep the medium room for a library/office or extend the bedroom. But, I'm a woman, and I do not need a large bathroom like my husband and sons. They would each have their own bathroom if they could.

You should definitely make a loft! If you plan to take out the ceiling.
I can't wait to see your cabin makeover. I love your sense of humour.
Love the wood stove. I'd take wall out between both end rooms put in another sliding door to deck. Then you could lie in bed and wake up to the water view. The cabin!!! Cheers sir.

It’s going to be so fun seeing the progress
