RLS 23 - Spindles

In this video, since we are getting more into the decorative hardware side of things with Baldwin, it’s important one understands the various spindles that are available for use both in the Baldwin line and across many antiques and even current production commercial mortise locks. Corbin, Russwin, Reading, National, Penn, Sargent, Schlage, pretty much every mortise lock made uses a spindle to actuate the latch with the knob or lever.
They all use a “spindle” of some kind to operate the latch so we are going to take a look at the types and differences of the more common styles out there!
Some use different nicknames interchangeably
•Straight Spindle
•Swivel Spindle or Screw Spindle
•Sectional Spindle or Split Spindle
•Other Weirdo Spindles

How do you remove the swivel spindle? I have been trying all day

I have a baldwin lock with a split spindle with a 90 degree angle. The threads on the spindle are worn away so i need to replace it. Can i use a spindle with a 45 degree angle? Cant seem to find the 90 degree one

Are spindles always sized for the lock; or are there times you'd have to cut one down to length?

There are different lengths but yes occasionally some cutting is necessary.
