This was super helpful! I want to make my own wedding dress, too, but I'm a quilter who has never made a dress before. I'd like a corseted bodice, so I learned a lot from this video. Would love to see the final dress or more videos on it!
I just found your channel and watched your corset video. Thoroughly enjoyable! I like your style in instructing while you sew. Lots of information without just sitting there and talking. And I had to laugh to discover there is someone else just as prone to injury and sticking her fingers with pins as I do.
I’m making my wedding dress with some fabric from Mood ! The outer layer is their “Dominique white polyester duchess satin” and it has been such a pain in the ass to make a corset out of since it frays so much lol. What a nice video !
I have a tip. I number my pattern pieces. Once I cut the material, I sew the pattern number onto the fabric with basting thread. So many of my patterns have similar shapes so having the numbers on the fabric. I iron my pieces so often the heat vaporising ink doesn’t do me any good. Also, if you look at vintage couture (Chanel for example) there is something that looks identical to our modern twill tape…it is tacked around the interior waist and just at the top of the hip. It is closed with a hook and loop, and those are made to your EXACT measurements. The ‘twill tape’ holds the dress up so that even if it shifts, I’d will not come down. If you are like me and find underwires incredibly uncomfortable, use a thin braided rope
I'm trying to make my corset with the outer layer being Medium-Lightweight Satin. Do you have any advice on what lining would be the best for this? Preferably 100% Polyester (I have to use 100% fabric lol). And also what bones what be great for this fabric? Your Corset turned out so beautiful!!
Thanks! You need a strength layer under the satin, I used cotton denim but a lot of people use coutil. You need something strong under tension. I used steel bones for this but a lot of the time I use plastic boning or giant zip ties
The process and results are FANTASTIC!! I had to subscribe ! 😍

Glad you liked it! I am working on the skirt video now but it is a huge project.

It's so bad! I stab myself constantly, but as long as it doesn't get on the fabric then I guess we'll be ok, right? Glad I could make you laugh

I used Duchess satin for my actual dress too! It's not from mood though and I didn't have a big problem with fraying
@@AdventuresofSarahandEm Where did you get your satin?

You might be able to find something on etsy or pinterest, but I don't know so I can't really help you with that
