As a kid in South Carolina in the 1970s, I could easily pick up both WLS and WCFL Chicago after sundown, and exceptionally clear on a cold winter night. Reliving so many great memories listening to these airchecks on TH-cam. It is the closest thing that I have to a time machine. My family never traveled anywhere when I was a kid, and I traveled by AM radio. WLS, WCFL, WOWO radio Fort Wayne, KMOX St. Louis, KDKA Pittsburgh, WNOX Knoxville, WBT Charlotte, WJAX Jacksonville, and more. I was well traveled and thoroughly entertained. John Landecker and Larry Lujack are quite possibly the best dee jays ever. Hypnotic voices.
I feel like crying; it's been 30 something years since I heard any of these broadcasts! I grew up in the 70's on WLS and my loyalty turned in the early 80's I started listening to the "hard rock" FM stations but when I was in my early 20's and working the old car I bought only had an AM radio so I went back to 'LS!!
These are awesome! The greatest station of all time! Thank you for posting!

Love that Wyler's ad with the Waylon performance. Hadn't heard that.
My favorite station of all time was MusicRadio WLS 890 am,i grew up and lived near Indianapolis and listened to WLS 890 AM over the local FM stations
Although I grew up in Syracuse, I remember getting WLS in on occasion. I miss this kind of radio.
