Parker, you might want to add two more hose clamps (one above and below)to the rudder stuffing box hose. My surveyor gigged me for that. Just enough room.
Love what you two are doing. What a great partnership you and Katy have. Be safe and fair winds.

Hey, Dale!! Thank you so much! It means so much to us, hearing kind words like yours. Great idea on the second hose clamp. I think there is just enough room for a couple more!

Hey Parker! Have had that problem with surge and wake numerous times. The best way I have found to mitigate movement at floating docks is to put a bunch of fenders out between the vessel and the dock. Secure a line leading forward from your jib winch to the dock, using the winch make it as tight as possible, like really really tight. Go back and tighten all dock lines. In essence making the boat and floating dock one. As the dock lines stretch you may need to add a click or two on the winch to keep it tight. It won’t stop all movement but will help a lot. Really enjoying your channel!

Hey Maxwell! Thank you for such a great tip about managing that type of movement! Really interesting using the power of a winch to tighten things up and take up slack as things stretch. We will employ this strategy the next time we find ourself at an uncomfortable floating dock or similar situation. Cheers!

I have never tried the idea of winching the boat tight to the dock. I have had success with lengthening the spring lines, if you travel the whole length of the boat from bow to stern on the dock and then stern to bow on the dock the lines are quite long and have more length to stretch and cushion the movement. on the video i saw you had a very short one midship.
Good luck in your travels, love your channel!
    friends first!!

What a great idea, Jarrod! The long spring lines would definitely have more shock absorption. Thanks :)

they went %80 of the way with the wave attenuating system. problem is the swell still comes in under the soccer field pier uninhibited. they should have put one of those deep attenuators along that whole length. the big wall on the river side actually does its job. the surge was hell on my lines

Question re refueling: While on the Erie Canal stretch when you were motoring the entire way, how often did you need to refuel?

Thank you! It was built in 1978 by a company called Allied Boat Company. We stayed at One15 marina in Brooklyn and it was around $4.50 a foot. Very expensive! Not something we would normally do but because we were visiting family we worked it into our budget
