Hello kriti. You must understand one thing that whatever we are following during our festivals or rituals is prescribed for us by our sages in shastra. We are not doing it ourselves. Our religious structure is given by Rishi Laugakshi. Other sages have prescribed for other regions of India. It all depended on the geography, climate and religion of the people. We never use banana, coconut etc in our pujas. Similarly we follow some tantric elements alongwith vedic elements in our rituals. So fish, mutton etc. is used. what is to be taken is also given in shastra.
You must have observed Bengalis eating non veg during Navratri while all others avoid eating it as it is prescribed for their society by their sages ,so they are following
