I still remember when Pakistan waged a war against our country in 1965 he was furious... None expected to him to lose his cool when he thundered
hamare zamin ke ek inch bhi nahi denge.
He was the one who coined the slogan..
      Jai Jawan
      Jai Kisan..

I feel so priveleged to have the opportunity to see & hear Shastriji speak so clearly & articulately in English to BBC. Never knew that he was such a good communicator in English too. I just wish that people in government have the backbone & morality to bring the truth of his death out in the open.
The country deserves to know the truth behind the conspiracy that killed this great & humble leader. I wonder how our country would have been different if he had lived longer & guided the nation instead of the corrupt leaders who took his place.

Feels so depressing to see the interview of this genuinely compassionate, honest, soft-spoken and by all means a very committed leader and patriot in the India of 2025, where not one value he stood for has survived. Not even one.

    The Golden Archive from BBC
Our Second Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri was the most phenomenal, ingenious statesman. He was also a great freedom fighter. He was humble, tolerant and kind man.
In 1952, he was elected to Rajya Sabha from U.P. Being the Railway Minister, he installed the first machine at Integral Coach Factory in Chennai in 1955.
In 1961, he was appointed as Home Minister, and he appointed the Committee on Prevention of Corruption.
On 9 June, 1964, Lal Bahadur Shastri became the Prime Minister of India. He promoted the White Revolution, a national campaign to increase milk production. He also promoted the Green Revolution, to increase food production in India.
He took some Foreign Policy Initiatives to strengthen India.
He was deeply influenced by the teachings of Mahatma Gandhi and was also a man of vision who led country towards progress.
"True democracy or the swaraj of the masses can never come through untruthful and violent means"
    - LAL BAHADUR SHASTRI

He said, 'not famine, but shortage ...'
Johnson sent us red wheat, generally used as a mix for feed for cows and poultry in the USA. We went through 2 years of that.
I asked my mother, 'what is this .., so hard?' (hard grains, hard chapatis)
She said, 'it's good for you, contains iron'.
      'Oh'. (I was 9 then)
This is why you will find people my generation, now in 70s, not above 5' 7" height.
My younger sister, born in 1964; is 5' 7"
My older brother is 5' 4"
      I myself, am 5' 5"
Two years of growth, we lost.
      That is what is 'shortage'.

@@anithasingh6366 Really no need for 'Sorry'. Personalizing the period 1965-66 is a way of explaining what PM Shastri had to go through; and later after Shastriji, Madam Indira Gandhi, before Johnson agreed to release wheat. They had their reasons. 1965 war. Read somewhere, that Johnson's daughter forced her father to release the wheat after Indiriaji's visit. Anyway, the wheat was given under a program and someone wrote in Quora, 21% of the import was given to us, free. In my opinion, poultry feed wheat at the cost of regular wheat fit for humans. Please remember, 'nothing is free from the USA'. Great people, I worked there for 6 years; but not a cup-of-coffee is free. In comparison, we Indians, dil-wale hain hum.

How dare you sit there, questioning us about poverty, famines, and soaring prices in India, as if you hold the moral high ground? For 200 years, you plundered our wealth, drained our resources, and shattered the very soul of our nation. You didn’t just steal our riches-you dismantled our society, deepened divisions with the caste system, and left us struggling to rebuild. And now, you dare to lecture us on the consequences of the destruction you caused? The audacity is staggering!

The journalist clearly mentioned in his question that all these problems were 'inherited.' He was asking whether the accusations of maladministration hold true, and notably, he didn't interrupt or interject during the response. I believe that asking questions should not be considered offensive, and we shouldn't become defensive even if we think the person asking is being hypocritical or prejudiced. I hope you see this as constructive criticism of your view, and I assure you I am not criticizing you personally.

Though he was the P.M. of India for only 18 months, he left a lasting impact on the psyche of the common man. This was not a pre-arranged and orchestrated interview that we are watching now a days. It was an era when sincerity and integrity were honored and respected, cutting across party affiliation.
