The big clubs were being ripped off by uefa with the champions league revenue and they know that uefa is nothing without them, so theyre using the power they have to leverage against them. We dont fully know all of the details yet and I would hope there is a meritocratic aspect of it, but the current model was just unsustainable for these clubs and something had to change

The NFL, a predominantly american sport, earned 16 billion in revenue in ‘19 while the Champions league raked in 3 billion, with significantly more global interest, with uefa also keeping the majority of it. This is the best route for these clubs to maximize global interest at the moment, and when global interest is truly peaking you will see a large trickle down affect to lower leagues.

Is it really all gone though? The ESL won't replace the domestic leagues and these teams may still be able to compete in the UCL. So in that sense this isn't subtracting from what already is there, just adding on top of, even if to line their pockets. Bayern and Dortmund cannot take part as the German FA doesn't allow complete ownership by a business entity of a football club hence they have 51% ownership belonging to the fans. PSG is not supporting this because their owners sit on the board of beIN sports who have the broadcasting rights to UCL.

Growing up during civil war and huge economic crisis one of the things that helped me grew up and push through was my dream to attend Mu vs Liverpool on old Trafford . I’m an American and that’s the perfect word for it. Americanizing European sports. We’re use to that format because that’s what we’ve been doing forever.
As a life long spurs fan, I was willing to support my club to the back teeth throughout all the losses, not winning a league for god knows how long, not winning a trophy for what seems to be forever at this point. I was willing to sit through every time we could have won the league but bottled it. I was willing to stand by my club, to support it with all my heart and chant along with the rest of my fellow supporters. But I refuse to sit by and watch my club help in the murder of football. I am no longer a spurs fan and I never will be again. They, along with everyone else who joined the Super League are a complete disgrace. Today is a day of shame for the big six that I hope will hang over them for a long time to come.

I read the official UEFA statement from this morning and it sounds good, here's the key point:
"As previously announced by FIFA and the six Confederations, the clubs concerned will be banned from playing in any other competition at domestic, European or world level, and their players could be denied the opportunity to represent their national teams."
UEFA have the most to lose from this sham league, so they are fighting hard, but the official statements from FIFA and the EPL, whilst roundly condemning the idea, weren't as definitive, no mention of bans or league expulsions.
I'm also concerned that if it comes to the crunch, the Premier League will just put up with it, as will FIFA.

@@zerubabeldemelash2906 The EPL would have to rewrite the rules to allow those six clubs to appear in a new league. The EPL rules currently forbid any teams from participating in any league, cup or other tournament, without prior approval of the EPL, the EPL board and the member clubs of the EPL.
This sham league does not meet with the EPL rules and previous statements from the EPL outlined that breaking of that rule would lead to clubs being excluded from the English Premier League.

This is heartbreaking. Not just for my club, or yours, or someone else’s. Everyone’s. The game itself will suffer tremendously from this. This is bigger than Chelsea. Liverpool. United. Like you Mark, I feel like my Chelsea is gone. I’m embarrassed with my club and I really hope this doesn’t materialize. Is it really all gone though? The ESL won't replace the domestic leagues and these teams may still be able to compete in the UCL. So in that sense this isn't subtracting from what already is there, just adding on top of, even if to line their pockets. If the ESL is just like the Audi cup but better, and not as respected as the main competitions we have now, would it be so unforgivable?

The English FA, Premier League allowed this to happen since the early 2000’s. They gave football to foreign billionaires then. Not 1 organization has the morale high ground here. UEFA, FIFA are corrupt from top to bottom. Not a surprise that billionaires try to capitalize on emotion and the potential money involved in a super league. Growing up during civil war and huge economic crisis one of the things that helped me grew up and push through was my dream to attend Mu vs Liverpool on old Trafford . I'm a Sheffield Utd fan and I was devastated when Chris Wilder walked away, but aside from that I've been sort of in love with the journey of Man Utd's up and downs over the last 7 or so years. Take that away from football, all of the stakes, and what do we have left? Devastating news.
I don't want us to leave the Premier league man. It's been my bread and butter when it comes to club football for well over a decade now. As a United fan I really cherish those 20 league titles, the 3 CLs, the treble, the league and European double in 2007-2008. I don't want them to be reduced to meaningless historical relics by joining the ESL and getting banned by the Prem and UCL.

As a life long spurs fan, I was willing to support my club to the back teeth throughout all the losses, not winning a league for god knows how long, not winning a trophy for what seems to be forever at this point. I was willing to sit through every time we could have won the league but bottled it. I was willing to stand by my club, to support it with all my heart and chant along with the rest of my fellow supporters. But I refuse to sit by and watch my club help in the murder of football. I am no longer a spurs fan and I never will be again. They, along with everyone else who joined the Super League are a complete disgrace. Today is a day of shame for the big six that I hope will hang over them for a long time to come.
