    *Recipe*
    4 large eggs
    1 1/2 cups whole milk
    1/2 tsp. salt
    1 1/4 cups flour
    4 tbsp. vegetable oil (butter, lard or beef drippings)
    Combine eggs, milk, flour and salt. Blend until well combined and pace in the refrigerator, allowing to rest 30 minutes.
    Preheat oven to 425°F.
    Put 1 teaspoon of the oil (or beef drippings) into each section of a 12-hole Yorkshire pudding tray or muffin tray and put into the oven on the top shelf until very hot, almost smoking.
    As soon as you take the tray from the oven, pour in the batter to three-quarters fill the tins (it should sizzle) and immediately put back into the oven.
    Bake until the Yorkshire puddings are well risen, golden brown and crisp, 15 to 20 minutes. Don't open the oven door until the end or they might collapse.

    As an American with a fondness for British T.V., I always wondered what these were and when I would see them on tv and think they reminded me of dinner rolls. When I see them made, it reminds me of what my grandmother used to make. She called them “popovers” and they are made in a very similar way with the hot oil. I think she used eggs for those as well but maybe less of them, they tended come out more bread like and these look more custard like. We used to serve popovers with Sunday dinner.

  • @mwmm
    @mwmm 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Yorkshire puddings are actually a skill to master, 100% agree that the oil needs to be smoking.
    You can also make them rise twice as high by putting a quarter cup of water into the mix and only filling 1/3rd of the way

    • @sandimiller2335
      @sandimiller2335 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Noooooo, not water. Won't taste as good. And use beef fat. NOT oil. If you can't get your hands on beef fat use lard but never oil and definitely not margarine or butter.

      I've heard that before, but they usually come out flat and stodgy if I do it like that. Also, he seemed to use a lot more milk than eggs. I made some last week using 200mg flour, 250ml milk, 4 eggs, a pinch of salt and baked using sunflower oil preheated at 200c. They came out just like they did in this video.

    I was posted in London twice, over 3 years each time and it became obvious that the brits are passionate about two things: Food and hospitality. To this day, I miss their roast and yorkshire. The yanks tend to eat meat with potatoes, but man a good roast with yorkshire and some sherry is so hard to beat. I also found "tea time" to be incredibly hard to explain, yet so effective. Kind of a winding down time in the middle of the day. Odd people, but a lot of what they do works. Sadly, they seem to be losing a lot of their traditions. You really won't find nicer people.

    My ex husbands granny was from Wales. She gave me many many recipes including THE BEST one for Yorkshire pudding. Funny story here...I was a newlywed of six months who went to his family's for Christmas. A few days before Christmas his granny made roast beef. When I was told there were Yorkshire puddings (I was a part Native American Canadian Indian girl) I thought it was a special dessert. Boy was I wrong 😋
    P.S. Her secret was to put chunks of beef fat in each cup and heat in very hot oven to melt. Makes a much more delicious tasting Yorkshire pudding than using any type of oil. Only substitute lard if you don't have cow fat. You could ask at a local butcher shop. Most will give it to you for no charge as to them it's waste. Remove from oven and quickly take out the crinkled leftover piece from each cup then pour your batter in and bake. Bake in hot oven approx 400*F until puffed and golden brown. Serve with home made gravy. If you can't make home made then don't do it at all. They owned a farm and when butchering a cow would package up lots of the fat to freeze in individual small bags just for this purpose.

    Is there a written or printed recipe he has maybe online for this video because you really cannot tell tge exact measurements but just the steps... for example how much eggs did they use?
    Im not from the uk and ive tried another person's recipe and it didnt quite come out totally right. It looked like a sad bunch of Yorkshire puddings with two goodlooking siblings lol (only two looked like how it's supposed to)
    Anyways im trying out recipes bec it looks amazing and id love to try them. Until i visit the UK I will have to just try and make them myself
