She didn't try to get anyone fired, she wanted her bf to be a bigger part of the show. The other actor was still playing his character, he just wouldn't be her character's baby daddy. I agree, though, that's not great. I watched the show, and it made sense for the other character to be the dad, not for her boyfriend's character.
Because of this douche, and Jamie Kennedy when she was on "Ghost Whisper." She's has a bad habit of pushing other guys out of her shows in favor of the losers that she's dating IRL. It always backfires on her, she hasn't had a decent job since this.

Sounds like she was struggling with how to handle all the attention her looks/bubbly personality garnered. I mean.. dating 3-4 different co-workers? I guess everyone has a colorful tale when it comes to their dating life but this struck me as a little odd
