  • Hey guys, today's video is about riding on a specific Cross Country Train that weirdly runs down the Snow Hill lines, this information is also said in the video, this Cross Country mainly runs every 2 or 3 hours between Newcastle and Reading, most Cross Country Trains that head to and from the South Coast of England usually go on the West Coast Mainline (WCML) between Birmingham New Street and Coventry before branching off after Coventry to go down WMR's Nuneaton-Leamington Spa line, before joining the Chiltern Mainline at Leamington, However this particular service doesn't, instead it adds more traffic to the Trains between Moor Street and Leamington by branching off after New Street to go down what's called the Camp Hill line, and about a quarter of the way down the line, there's a curve which leads to the Snow Hill lines, which allows Trains to travel from New Street to Leamington via Solihull, Dorridge and Warwick, skipping the WCML, I knew this service existed but I didn't realize until earlier this year that this service goes on (somewhat) my local line, anyway, I went on a Cross Country morning service on 6-11-23 to see what it was like riding a Cross Country Train down the Dorridge Branch of the Snow Hill line, hope you guys enjoy!

Great video Theo, these used to terminate at Banbury so it's good to see them going back to Reading again. I'm riding one next week and doing Newcastle to Leamington Spa on it

Thanks Sean, you just reminded me that they terminated at Banbury, but yes I was keen to ride one of the particular services so I was glad I did, and I hope you enjoy your Newcastle to Leamington trip next week!

Technically, the line between Birmingham international and New Street is also part of the Snow Hill Lines

Are CrossCountry running fewer trains than they used to? It used to be an hourly service before the pandemic (sometimes going through to Southampton). Long, long time ago it used to stop at Solihull too. It is a very confusing service though. When you're trying to get to International or Coventry in a rush then it's easy to end up on one of these by mistake and then your ticket becomes invalid.

Well they have kinda been running a few less services, but im sure this service is every 2 or 3 hours and always has been, if you’re heading to the South coast of the UK, always catch the Manchester-Bournemouth Train, but if you’re headed to Bham intl or Coventry go to New Street and catch a different company
