*Collapsing* the World's Tallest Kapla Tower! (Behind the Scenes)

- Enjoy a detailed behind the scenes of how we built the World Record Kapla Tower, including how it was designed, how it was supposed to fall, and what really happened during the collapse.
18 builders spent 4 days attempting to break the World Record for the tallest tower made of wooden toy blocks! This 25m-tall (82ft) tower contains 100,000 Kapla planks and was designed by @KaplaBen, who organized this world record project!
Watch the official falldown edit on @KaplaBen's channel: • The World Tallest Kapl...
Special thanks to Kapla and Olympia London for supporting this World Record attempt, Anna and Richard for the event organization/logistics, and the film crew (Robert, David and Tristan) for capturing incredible shots of this project.

I’m still confused by the second tower.. like HOW did it just all explode like that??🤔
🤔
Task failed successfully, I guess. 😂
perhaps there was just enough shift sideways to lose stability because the main thing holding the tower together is the weight from the planks above?
there is a lot of vertical stability from the weight above, but once enough planks move sideways (even a small amount), you don't have as much weight on planks in the downward direction, and the reduced friction allows the planks to continue to slide out/move sideways, accelerating the process. you can see that the sections of the tower all expand out as they fall, further reducing the stability. it could probably be simulated in a computer model, but that model would likely take a lot longer to build than your real towers.
Huh.
I think that is was more luck when it not occured. Cus there are sooo many parts that can shift or slightly wrong placed, normally they don't, but with a chance of 1:100 000 they do. So it was just a matter of probability, once it fell, once not.
Huge thanks to everyone who made this project possible, it was an honor to work on it. Great job on the explanations on all the important stages of the build.
I really appreciated the in depth description of the tower and the techniques used. It’s an amazing feat of architecture, art, and engineering.
I also
YOU GUYS DID IT TWICE?!!!!???!!?! THAT'S INCREDIBLE!!!! I've been gushing over this structure since it came out, and I'm so happy I was able to get to see some behind the scenes work for this structure! It's awesome that there was some changes both times, and it was nice to see them! This was an awesome video :D
The second topple is really interesting because Yeah it's definitely odd how those planks just shoot out like that. My guess is that because of the huge amount of weight above those supports, the vibrations from the tower starting to topple gave it enough movement to cripple under the weight and then shoot out in the easiest direction those planks could go.
And this was also more possible in the second tower because of the taller structure overall
Either way, both topples were super supet impressive and inspiring, especially as a fan of Ben's and your work Lily for such a long time. Massive props to the entire team that worked on this project. keep up the amazing stuff :)
I agree with this analysis, but i'm still shocked how the first plank goes. Actually if you look closely it's more a twisting than a falling movement. You have to keep in mind that the pressure on those planks is enormous, so they cannot slide that easily. But my guess is that the balance shifts with the removal of 2 pillars, and the lateral force is enough to trigger this twisting movement, which activates 1 system. Once that first system goes, it triggers the others and it's over.
@@KaplaBen OK, I'm grasping at straws here (unintended pun) but maybe it could have been AIR? like, when something this massive is brought down, the air around it is pushed outwards (like a building implosion when you see all the material particles form a smoke-like fog that is pushed outwards by the air), so if you had an air movement strong enough it's plausible perhaps that it'd have moved that first plank in a twist as it did. Does that make sense to you?
Wow! I love these BTS videos! Amazing as always! Thanks❤
8:25 super cool shot of the stage 3 opening up
This is a really well done video, you did a great job with summarising all of the key moments of the project. Also I was really surprised when I heard myself at 9:53 lol. Awesome work :)
very cool! thanks for all the added details about the tower designs and the differences between the tower versions.
This is fantastic!
so proud of you and your team. it's marvelous.
BEST INTRO EVER!!!I LOVE THE MUSIC!!!
It's neat because it shows how fast civilization can topple and disappear as well. How many ancient civilizations are just gone overnight.
BOB !!!!!

My goodness all of this is just so incredible you deserve infinity subs! ❤
Incredible - please do a video about the architecture / fall planning. What an interesting perspective on physics. Thank you.
I love your videos so much
That was AWESOME!!!!!!!!😀😀😀😀
Most excellent !

good job guys that was amazing and so satisfying to watch
Bravo les gars c'était impressionnant et tlm satisfaisant à voir
Cool how the Burj Kalifa model went down.
That was really really amazing and do you peeps have major skills
So funny and strange that I would love to build a 40 meters tall Lego tower. But it would be very annoying for me to build such a Kapla tower. Sounds like I'm no puzzle but a statics guy.
Only the 11 000 € for the Lego bricks hold me back for a Lego world record.
My heart would not be able to handle building this.
So you all broke 2 world records now or just one? Either way, congratulations! Very well deserved. I'm happy with how these towers came out, especially the first one. :D
One. Twice.
Looks like a rocket, epic
So freaking amazing!!!
But I don't understand. Did you beat the record twice in 4 days or twice in 8 days (4 days to build a tower)?
Seeing the bird at 8:00 just flying there really makes you notice how much luck was involved for no bird to prematurely topple the whole thing!
It was actually a drone with a camera. Which that itself is also risky because the wind from the propellers can blow on it, but I guess it wasn't likely due to the stability and distance.
Yea
lol
I have steady hands and I do trust them when I build solo, but I would be too afraid to participate in a group project, especially of this scale, afraid that I might be responsible for making it fall close to the finish.
Well done.
(still wondering how painful it would be)
Was the air conditioning on when you were building this whole thing? I saw on 6:23 you said it was shaking so it made me wonder if the AC was on or if it was off. Otherwise, fantastic job to all of the builders!!!!!!
I rather wondered that it shook only that little. At 25 meters also the slightest disturbances should shake it more.
Congratulations to people with a lot of free time.
At 10:52 the pillars fell and the weight couldnt handle it anymore so it collapsed
What if this was a real skyscraper 😮
meanwhile these things are built in blender so often as you learn some neat things about it's rigid body physics system.
Surely just have a mold made and release it and voila…
back when i got a small box of kapla it was like 40 for 200 blocks so i cant imagine how much this would have costed
Did any of the wood planks snap
Can you make a Birch Khalifa
Pls make collab with taikamuna
this people must be playing rust this reminds me of my base designs
wow....
What's going on at 8:20? There's a bunch of jank and artifacting at the bottom-middle of the screen. Seems like editing to me.
Can you give me 1 h5 domino criation set plss
thats really spokie if you were around NYC during 9/11
No. Really no. Not all in the world is related to 9/11.
NYC and the date 9/11 are related to 9/11 however @@Delibro
@@theSato Yea, but not related to a Kapla tower.
Why you didn't send any more kind of biggest towels about Toyota blocks
Tower 2 was really cool I like the topple of tower2 it looks like it just sink😮😅❤❤🎉🎉
10:37
who pays all this ^^cool never the less
Imagine being a ant that climes all the way to the top just for it to fall down 1 minute later💀 10:00 10:38
You should have just smashed the base with a shovel or something lol
Good topple, but it didn’t fall as suppose to
😢😢😢
Please launch h5 dominos in India
Use glue.
cant
you just build a 5000 meter tall 1 by??? easy

I wish the video didn't spoil the actual collapse by showing clips of it while explaining the construction of the tower. They should have just explained it with only a voice or with an animation/diagram. disliked
fail
why do you keep showing what's gonna happen in the end all throughout the video lol. it's terrible storytelling. but of course this is an incredible achievement and your talent and passion are beyond admirable. thank you
