2024 Elections | In-depth look at Freedom Front Plus manifesto: Dr Pieter Groenewald

  • The Freedom Front Plus was registered in March 1994, just in time to contest South Africa's landmark elections on the 27th of April. Only one month old when South Africa went to the polls, the FF Plus became the fourth biggest party in SA's first parliament. Launching its manifesto on the 2nd of March in Centurion, Pretoria, the party promises to eradicate corruption, do away with cadre deployment and affirmative action, fix poor service delivery, as well as to restore reliable electricity supply among its core pillars. The party says after thirty years of the current government driving SA to the edge of ruin, the country needs a new dispensation. It also wants a recognition of group rights, promotion of independent communities, restoration of identity and protection of culture and diversity. Freedom Front Plus Leader Dr Pieter Groenewald joins us in the studio today to unpack the party's manifesto which was launched.

He cares and has intellect, the FF have like 3 MPs with a PhD. I read the whole manifesto and it's largely sensible, reasonable solutions. Spot on with economics for sure.
I'd consider them. Disclaimer: I'm an English-South African from the KZN. Not the stereotype FF supporter (Afrikaner farmer from Free State)

Is it wrong to want a recognition of group rights, promotion of independent communities, restoration of identity and protection of culture and diversity? We all have the exact same right than the next person living in SA. Yes, l am 100% for the upliftment of the previous disadvantage people but the policies the ANC used to do that failed as evident in high unemployment numbers, poor economic growth, health safety services falling apart.

We can say whatever we want abt Afrikaners, but their leadership was much better than the leadership of today. Resources and Infrastructures were functional, skills were recognised and hunger and unemployment was minimal. Daar was loofheid skap, where unskilled labour was given a chance to be utilized somehow. Now the educated and skilled are worse off and young ppl are discouraged to even further their education cos they'll end up unemployed, unless they go outside the country. Food was cheaper and health services was of high quality and hospitals were a place of hope not death, when u went to the police station to report a case it wud be investigated and convictions were seen. I'm not saying everything was rosy but there was practical results in ppl's lives outside of the political clashes of ANC comrades and Defence Force. That's just my take

The only things I got were- build your own community (which sounds a lot like "separate development" from his framing) and general conservatism (Family values, family unit etc) and merit based appointments while ignoring systemic issues that cause unfair hiring practices. Run of the Mill conservatism that sounds nice but doesn't bring development. The one issue I agree on is that the problem in the country is impunity and lawlessness.

The purpose of the South African land reform department is to address historical injustices related to land ownership and distribution in the country. The department aims to promote equitable access to land for all South Africans, particularly those who were disadvantaged under apartheid policies. It seeks to facilitate land redistribution, restitution, and tenure reform to ensure that land rights are protected and that land is utilized in a sustainable and productive manner.

We didn't come on ships and created borders called South Africa. We walked from one part of Africa to another. We didn't need passports, we didn't need visas, there was no South Africa when we came. And Coloured people should not be denied of the same land claim but they are not interested in it. They'd rather partner up with the people who stole their land.
