- 37884 brings 769431 through Carlisle after two weeks stuck at Oxenholme
Meanwhile train services almost get back to Normal
following Storm Eowyn
27 January 25
After being left at Oxenholme for around two weeks after experiencing brake problems en route from Liverpool to Brodie Engineering at Kilmarnock, 769431 was finally on its way. An attempt was made last week but the brakes held firm. Rail Operations Group 37884 Cepheus was at the head of the train, having been involved in the previous attempts.
The train left Oxenholme 3 hours early, leading to a layover at Carlisle to await the relief driver, coming by train from Motherwell.
The Engineer's train to Tyne Yard was quite long with what appeared to be spent ballast - could easily have been just wet fresh ballast. The engineer's train to Basford Hall just ran as a light engine. DRS also sent out a class 68 for a run following maintenance. It went to Tebay and return.
There was still disruption on both the Cumbrian Coast and the Sou Western services to Dumfries. After initial trains on both lines, they resorted to cancelling trains well into the afternoon. Trees or other storm damage some days after Storm Eowyn. I noted that on the Sou Western, scheduled passenger trains were running between Dumfries and Glasgow Central. The odd rail replacement bus ran. The road and other works outside the station didn't help and the Dumfries bound passengers had to walk to Warwick Road to get their service - not easy when road works had to be negotiated en route as well as the passengers unlikely to know where they were walking.

Thanks for another great selection Leslie including a class 37.
Carlisle is certainly seeing a good variety these days.
Thanks. I have to be patient but every now and then Carlisle delivers!
It always makes me smile when a venerable class 37 comes to the rescue of some new upstart!
I know what you mean - demic unit needs an older loco to haul it
Thanks
Thanks!
Amazing video Leslie! Great to see the 769 FINALLY moving! Loved the variety, thanks for uploading!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Lovely variety as always Les, i think the ROG Europhoenix livery is superb, i've just ordered one for display in my front room!
It is a great livery
Thank you Les! A very enjoyable video. Can't beat a good thrash from a 37! Adds to the thrill!
You bet! Glad you enjoyed it
Another great video. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching!
Nice catch Leslie. See your logs are still running...ours have stopped here, to Baglan Bay. Very good...all the best.
Well the logs run most days - but there were none today - I understand they cant run when engineering works on the GWR line from Shrewsbury to Wrexham sees the line closed
Thanks for sharing. Stay safe.
Thanks, you too!
Cool video, Les! That 769 unit certainly has been a story locally. Otherwise, another fine mix of freight and passenger, angles and lines! Cheers
Thanks 👍 IT seemed a long time stuck in a siding
Brilliant video Leslie.
Thanks!
Thanks for sharing Les. A question, was that 37 left idling for the 3 hours it was standing at Carlisle?
It was in Carlisle for two hours awaiting the relief driver. Yes it was left idling but thats nothing unusual. They tend to be switched off only when not likely to be used again or if parked overnight.
Could do with some litter pickers down on the tracks there Les. Tell them it spoils your videos.😂 Thanks.
Rubbish aren't they (couldn't resist the pun).
Great video Les.
Thanks!
Hi Les, seems a lot more freight coming from Birch coppice than Hams hall. Do the Northern trains from Manchester airport to Scotland Have trolly dollies or buffet bar on them?
TransPennine do run a trolley service with hot food available in first class. You'll see them taking on supplies at Carlisle as required.
Great video @LeslieGilpinRailways & there possibly 1 or 2 37s from Westcoast Railways one is 37685 loch Arkaig that are to pass Carlisle about 4ish from larbert C.E to Carnforth steamtown today
Thanks. The three Lochs arrived for a crew change and.... well wait for Friday's video
